  Poppy takes in a deep breath and then winces, the doctor told us she’s bruised her ribs. Hopefully they heal in time for when the baby begins to grow and won’t cause her extra pain. I see her fight to open her eyes and when she does everyone exhales a breath of relief.

  “Oh Pops.” Audrey squeals in delight. “Hi honey.”

  “Mum?” Poppy looks around the room, looking a little confused. They search the whole room and when they land on me, her eyes widen. I know what’s going to happen before hand but it still hurts when she glares at me. “Get out.”

  “Told you.” Axel gloats.

  “Stop it.” Luna smacks her brother but Poppy shakes her head. Not bothering to look at me anymore.

  “I want you to go Ryder.”

  “Look Poppy I made a mistake, I was in shock” I plead with her. “I want you and our baby, please just let me stay.”

  She looks at me with sad broken eyes. “It took me going through this for you to realise that did it?” And then her eyes widen, clutching at her stomach. “Mum, the baby?”

  “You’ll get a scan, don’t worry, the baby has a strong heart beat.” Poppy cries in relief and Axel stands behind me.

  “Come on Ryder, let’s go yeah?”

  “I can’t.” I watch her crying, wanting to be with her and comfort her.

  “Go Ryder.” Poppy cries and I look to Axel and he actually looks sorry for me now.

  “Come on.”

  We walk out together, Poppy’s crying repeating in my head.

  Axel leads me down a long hall and it ends with a door leading to a little garden. It has a few seats and I’m sure it’s lovely in the day but right now it’s dark, just how I feel.

  “I’m not leaving.” I bark at Axel and he smirks.

  “Yeah, I figured.” He takes one of the seats and I follow suit. “Sorry for being hard on you but Poppy is my sister and what happened tonight is fucked.” I nod in agreement. “Sorry for making it harder with me acting like a knob.”

  I laugh. “Well there is that.”

  “You really want this?” He asks me. “The baby?”

  I nod. “Yeah I do. It’s sooner than I thought but it doesn’t really matter does it. That’s my child.”

  The longer I have to deal with the situation, the more I feel. This is my baby too and I won’t let Poppy push me away. She’s protecting herself after I hurt her but I’ll show her how much I want them both, her and the baby.

  Axel and I are still sat in the tiny garden when Luna appears. “They’re doing the scan.”

  As fast as I possibly can, I stand and run back to Poppy’s room. The doctor smiles as I enter.

  “Dad?” He asks and for a second I don’t know what’s happening.

  “Yes, he’s the father.” Poppy fills in for me.

  There’s a woman with some sort of machine and she puts some gel on Poppy’s bruised stomach.

  “Alright, let’s leave shall we?” Audrey stands, ushering everyone out the room and winks at me.

  “What?” Poppy and Luna speak at the same time.

  “Mother and father time.” Audrey looks to Poppy and nods, before leaving with everyone else following. It’s just me, Poppy with medical staff and our baby.

  Poppy

  I watch as my mum walks away, leaving me with Ryder. I can’t believe he’s here after what he’s done. If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be here.

  “Ok.” The sonographer places the tool on my belly and all of a sudden a picture shows up on the screen and Ryder leans in closer to me. “Here you go.”

  Very clearly I see a head, a tummy, legs and arms. “Oh my god.”

  “What the fuck?” Ryder whispers and then reaches for my hand, he takes his eyes from the screen and into my eyes. “I love you.”

  He takes my breath away and with tears I look back at the screen. “Is the baby ok?”

  The doctor and sonographer look closely at everything as me and Ryder patiently wait. All of a sudden I feel very close to Ryder. This is our baby. He finally knows and here we are looking at our child.

  “This is fucking amazing.” Ryder’s eyes are wide as he watches the little screen. The baby coming into focus as they measure and take a close look. “Everything is ok right?” He repeats my question and finally they both turn to me and Ryder.

  “Everything is perfect.” The doctor grins, “I’ll leave you with Christine now.”

  The doctor leave and Christine the sonographer smiles sweetly. “So you mother brought your notes in and it said you are fourteen weeks along?”

  “That’s three months.” Ryder works out and I’m secretly worried if he’s worrying why I’m at that stage without telling him.

  “That’s right.” I answers her.

  Christine nods. “Only the baby’s measurements show that it’s actually twenty weeks, six weeks ahead than you were originally told.”

  “What?” The room starts to spin Christine is quickly at my side, asking if I’m ok. “Just shocked.”

  “Well, I’m to shock you even more.” She grins. “You’re pregnant with twins.”

  I’m glad I’m lying down because I think I would fall over. I quickly look over at Ryder, his face is pale and he takes a seat.

  “Twins.” He whispers. “Two babies.”

  Christine laughs. “Oh that’s not it, I can also tell you the sex of the babies if you would like?”

  “You can?” I gasp and look to Ryder who is now standing again, holding my hand. “Shall we?”

  Ryder searches my face for an answer. “If you want to.”

  I nod and Ryder’s face breaks out to a huge grin, nodding with me. “We will.”

  Christine beams with excitement. “You have one of each, a boy and a girl.”

  “What?” I begin to cry. “That’s amazing.”

  Ryder leans in and kisses me, pouring his love into it and I soak it up. “Well this is turning out to be an eventful night.”

  I can’t help but laugh, my anger with him fading away. I want to be happy in this moment. I’ll revisit what happened at a later date but right now I’m alive, my babies are safe in my tummy. One girl and one boy. The ultimate wish.

  Christine leaves and as soon as she does, my family returns. They all rush over.

  “How was it?” My mum eagerly asks and Ryder and me share a proud smile.

  “Amazing.” I can’t remove the smile from my face.

  “You wanna hear some crazy news?” Ryder asks them.

  “So I’m not fourteen weeks.” I reveal. “I’m twenty.”

  My mother and sister gasp with their hands over their mouths and bless, Axel and my dad don’t really know what to do with each other.

  “Your halfway already?” My mother laughs.

  I giggle, thrilled to add the next shock. “But that’s not all.”

  “We’re having twins.” Ryder announces and everyone in the room explodes. Even Axel looks amazed.

  “Oh Poppy.” Luna cries at her beside me.

  I then get too eager. “Boy and a girl.”

  Everyone’s jaw literally drops.

  “You know already?” My dad asks, looking like he’s about to cry.

  I wouldn’t blame him, I’m fighting the tears back and by the looks of it, so is Ryder.

  “She just told us.” I look around at everyone, despite the circumstances this moment is wonderful. “I can’t believe it.”

  After the excitement of this past hour and what else my body has gone through today, I’m fighting my eyes to keep them open.

  “Hey.” Ryder strokes my hair. “Go to sleep, I’ll stay with you here tonight.”

  I nod sleepily. “Ok.”

  My family all come to say bye and tell me that they will be back in the morning. I’ll be able to go home tomorrow, they just want to keep an eye over me because of what I’ve been through and I’m pregnant.

  My mother orders one of the nurses to supply Ryder with a bed for the night, even though he insists the uncomfortable old loo
king leather chair is ok.

  As I’m falling to sleep, I crack my eyes open just a tiny bit. “Ryder?”

  “Yeah?” He’s instantly right here.

  “Are you sure you want this?” I ask, wanting to know he’s all in and there’s going to be no second guessing for him.

  “Absolutely.” He smiles his wicked grin. “You’re all mine Pops, nobody gonna change that, even our very own twin babies.”

  I giggle. “The why did that happen?”

  “I don’t know.” He sighs sadly. “I was just in shock I think, I mean I did not expect you to day that. My body just kind of went numb but if I could change it I would.” He declares. “I keep replaying in my mind you driving away and then hearing the news about you, I don’t think I could have lived with myself if anything happened to you.”

  His words really touch me and I decide right then and there that I need to cut him some slack. It took some time for me too, so I’ll let him make it up to me in other ways.

  Hospital beds are horrible to sleep on, I discovered that during the last two nights.

  I was originally only supposed to be here for one night but that unfortunately changed into two when I needed to be watched over a little more due to my iron levels.

  Now, we wait for me to be discharged, Luna is sat with me. Everyone else seems to be busy doing something else.

  “I can’t wait to get into my own bed. “I groan as I try to get comfortable.

  “Poppy, can I tell you something?” Luna asks, looking slightly flushed.

  “Of course.” I stop fidgeting and give her my full attention.

  “Well, I’ve sort of been seeing someone.” She reveals and all my thought about the bed has disappeared.

  “Oh my god! With who?” I dare to ask.

  Her blushed cheeks turn a deeper shade of red. “Zane.”

  My eyes almost bug out of my head. “Wow.”

  “You’re ok?” She asks wearily and then a thought crosses my mind.

  “Make sure you don’t have to go through with what I did with Axel, you know, now that you’re doing exactly what I did before.”

  “I knew you were going to say that.” Luna rolls her eyes.

  “I am serious though, it fucking sucked. Make sure you don’t need to go through it.” I advise. “That’s surprised me though because I’ve heard around the club that he’s into some kink.”

  “Like what?”

  “Pain with pleasure, something like that anyway, just be careful.” I beg her but at the mention of Zane Redgrave’s sexy life, a blur creeps onto Luna’s face. You dirty minx, you’ve done that with him, haven’t you?”

  Wow, she looks sweet but here Luna is liking the darker side of sex,

  “Please don’t tell mum and dad yet.” Luna begs,

  “Of course I won’t.” I roll my eyes. “Your secrets are mine.” When I flash her a little wink she giggles. “You little minx.”

  ***

  It’s been three days since I was sent home from the hospital and I’ve spent them all at Ryder’s place, or should I say, my new home.

  Now that I’m pregnant he was determined to have me move in and prepare together for the babies. I can’t argue with that.

  We’ve already picked out one of the rooms as a joint nursery and settled on a safari theme for it. Ryder also has me in charge of making the house feel more like a home and I’m loving every single minute of it. I have no budget it seems either, which makes it even more fun.

  Ryder and I are back to ourselves and I decided to leave that night in the past. We all have our moments and Ryder chose that night as his, but he’s been perfect ever since. There’s not a single bit of doubt in me that thinks he doesn’t want the twins. Hell, I sometimes think he’s more excited than I am.

  Today, I’ve been for something to eat with Luna and we’re now on our way home. My body is still sore but being involved in the crash and truth be told, I’m a little nervous in the car now. Even with my dad driving us. I choose to ignore the fact that there’s a car in front and behind us that belong to the club. For now anyway. I just want to get back to my man.

  As we drive down the long little road leading to my new home, I spot little blue and pink ribbons darted around and then I spy Ryder standing at the door.

  He opens my door as we park and helps me down from the Range Rover. “Miss me?” He asks.

  “Like crazy.” I answer, kissing him until I hear my dad clearing this throat. I turn to see him and Luna standing behind us, are they not going home?

  “Time for that later.” Ryder adds quietly. “But now, it’s surprise time.”

  “It’s what time?” I laugh, finding it odd as he walk me towards the garden with my dad and sister following.

  “Surprise!” Comes a huge yell from a crowd of people in the garden.

  “Oh my god!” I jump and Ryder holds me.

  “Happy Baby Shower.” He whispers in my ear.

  “Don’t you have these things towards the end of the pregnancy?” I wonder.

  “But then you would have planned it and I wouldn’t have had chance to surprise you.” Ryder laughs and I fall for him a little bit more.

  Everyone comes to greet me, and I’m amazed at how many people are here. The blue and pink colours look adorable and there’s twin balloons darted around the place. Garden games are set out for the kids and even the food it baby themed with baby bottles as iced cakes and biscuits. There’s even a photo booth. This is too cute.

  “He’s done good, right?” Luna asks me and I beam.

  “Yes, he has.”

  Elise and Lauren walk over and they lead me to show how many gifts I’ve been given, I feel truly spoilt. I place a hand over my tiny baby bump and smile, I can’t believe this is my life after all that drama to begin with.

  I look over at Ryder as he talks with Grim, Devlin and my brother. I’m so happy.

  Ryder

  “Ryder,” Prez walks over with Axel as I stand chatting with Devlin as he gives me a few parental tips. “We need to talk.”

  I sense the seriousness. “Go ahead.”

  “We’ve discovered that Poppy’s car crash was not an accident, our suspicions about the gang we’ve been trying to wipe out being behind it are true. I had Cyrus and Zane on the task and they got info before putting them down.”

  “Motherfucker.” I growl, trying not to snap in front of everyone and spoiling Poppy’s surprise.

  “Don’t worry, we’re on it.” Prez nods. “Enjoy today first, then we will talk tomorrow.”

  “We’ll get em bro, don’t you worry about that.” Axel stands by my side as I watch Poppy laughing. I won’t let anything else happen.

  “They’re dead.” I nod and Axel agrees.

  “Dead men walking.”
