Pretty Ugly Lies: a gripping and chilling domestic noir

At this point it was in the middle of the day, so he got the vegetables and fruit out, and he put together a medley of celery, pineapple, apples, oranges, tomatoes, carrots, and beans.
“What are you making?” the girl asked when she saw this.
“I am making fruit salad,” he said.
“Yay!” said the girl, thinking he was nice after all.
So she danced around with her dolly while he made fruit salad. Until she saw something was very wrong with it. The man had put poison in the salad. The man asked her to eat it, and because she was afraid of him, she did.
Eventually she fell asleep, and she woke up to find herself in the oven, being prepared for dinner. As she closed her eyes to say goodbye to her mommy and daddy in her head, she realized that her mommy was always right.
Just as she was about to be cooked to a golden color, the police broke down the door and rescued her. She never wanted a new family ever again.
The lesson is to always listen to your parents and that just because someone eats vegetables and fruit doesn’t make them a good person.

Acknowledgments
Every time I get to this part I don’t know where to begin. My superhero husband who takes on kid duty so that I can write. My four amazing children for cheering me on, whether in words or baby babble. My friends and family and fans who buy my books, leave positive reviews, and remind me that sleep is overrated. And of course my editorial team at Proofed to Perfection, who polishes my prose and fixes my “oops,” as my youngest daughter calls them. Then there’s my publisher extraordinaire, Bloodhound Books, whose amazing team helped me through the final birthing stages of Pretty Ugly Lies. They produced a book I’m so proud to call my own. Though, for those authors who compare publishing a book to child labor, I’ll give you the honor of carrying and birthing my next child (wink)—writing a book is way more fun than labor!
There are so many people who contribute and support this dream of mine to be an author—thank you, all of you.
But ultimately all of this is for you, my readers. All these words, characters, plots swimming around in my head—it’s for my fans. Those incredible minds all over the planet who purchase a copy, invest in my characters, enter my world, and embark on the thrills I spent countless hours creating, plotting, planning, living.
If only I had enough pages to list every person who has left an imprint on me, encouraged me, and supported me. But we’d be talking about a book of Bible-length proportions. Thank you, all, for reading this.
