“Was he what?”

  “Above you?”

  I picture Adam’s long lean body sprawled among the wrinkled white sheets. In my head, I can still hear him whispering the words. “I love you.” That’s what he said. No doubt about it. But that statement becomes our private joke forever. When Sarah wants to kiss me, to touch me, to fuck me, she leans in close and says, “I’m above you.”

  She’s not. We are on the exact same level.

  Which, I might add, is way the fuck above Adam.
