  “Ishmael—”

  “Another time, aight?”

“Okay. Fine.” He threw his hands up.

I left my dad’s crib with the quickness, pissed because that Althea bitch, or Tee as she told me her name was, was actually someone he liked. I knew I had to tell his ass, but I just didn’t know how. As I sat at the red light, I saw Lexus’s name flash across the screen in my car.

  “What’s up?” I answered.

“I finished the song. Can you come to the studio and listen?”

I didn’t have shit else to do and since I didn’t feel like being in the hotel, I said, “Yeah, I’ll be there in like twenty minutes.”

  “Okay.”

I made it the studio a little after 7 p.m., and parked around back. Lexus didn’t have a deal yet, so she had to work wherever the producers were. She wanted to get in the room with Mischief and have him do a song for her, but that nigga stayed booked so it’d be months from now before he could work with her. He offered to just sell me a beat for Lexus, but she wanted the experience with him, so I turned it down and just told him we’d wait.

“Hey, sit, sit!” Lexus grinned when I came in.

“Where is Tim?” I questioned, referring to the producer.

“He took a break, and he showed me how to work everything so I can play the song for you.”

“Play it then. Let me see what you been in here doing.”

She turned it on, and then began to dance while lip-syncing. As the song went on, she moved closer to me and tried to straddle my lap, but I stopped her.

“I was just trying out a new performance thing; pulling someone up on stage,” she chuckled breathily, making it obvious she was embarrassed that I’d halted things.

“Turn the music off and sit down, Lexus.” She did as I asked. “You know that can’t happen with us, right? I’m your manager, and I don’t do that type of shit. I’m managing you because I believe in your talent, not because I wanna fuck you. And any nigga in this business that makes you feel like you need to give him some pussy to get something, run the other way, or let me know, aight?”

“Yes. I know! Ugh! I’m sorry, I just… I just wanted to make sure—”

“I get it. You ain’t that type of girl though, and I need you to stay that way. Plus, my baby’s mama will kill yo’ ass and we don’t need that shit.” We both laughed in unison. “Come here.” I stood up and so did she, before I gave her a hug and kissed the top of her head. “Now play the rest of the song.”

“Okay!” She damn near squealed before cutting it back on and dancing, but in her own space.

  Jade

For the past week or so, I’d been able to get away from spending the night in my home. I told Hudson I had some work stuff to do, and convinced him it was best I stayed in a hotel nearby, and to let me bring Jayde with me. I honestly didn’t think he’d go for it because it was such a horrible lie, but to my surprise he did. Of course, he bitched about it a little bit, but I eventually was given the green light. It’s not like I wouldn’t have went anyway. I did what the fuck I wanted and no nigga told me what to do, husband or not. And I think because he was going out of town earlier this week, it made him more lenient.

Being at Adrian’s place was nice, especially because her, my baby, and me were like a little family. Jayde already knew Adrian pretty well from when she lived with Hudson and I, so she easily became attached to her. The only problem was Deyana and her weird ass.

After I caught her watching us, I made sure to lock Adrian’s bedroom door whenever we had sex. I just wasn’t into whatever Deyana was trying to be into. She was beautiful and very sexy, so I didn’t know why she insisted on watching us when she could go out and get any girl she wanted.

“Mommy!” Jayde ran up to me.

I scooped her up and kissed her soft cheek, then tickled her belly, which made her giggle. Seeing her talk more and more made me sad because she was growing up way too fast. I remember finding out I was pregnant with her, and now here she was walking and talking. Having her also made me think about all the times I was pregnant by Chaz and got rid of them. It made me feel terrible when before I didn’t give a fuck; I was just relieved to not be pregnant anymore. A part of me wondered what our baby would have been like; interesting, for sure.

“I’m making breakfast; would you like some?” Deyana asked as I walked into the kitchen.

Adrian went into work today just to get some extra hours in. She was trying to get a promotion, so doing that extra time would look good on her resume.

“Depends. What are you making?” I sat at the bar and placed Jayde on top of it before kissing her again.

“Belgian waffles, eggs, bacon, and biscuits. I have some strawberry jalapeño jam to go with them.”

“Sure, but I’ll pass on the jam.”

“Aww, try some for me. I promise you will love it. It’s got the perfect amount of sweetness with a hint of spicy.”

  “Thanks, but no.”

Deyana turned her back to me, and finished cooking while I played with Jayde. She finished rather quickly, and then made me a plate.

“Should I make one for your baby?”

“No, we can share.” I shot her a brief smile and then placed Jayde onto my lap so that we could start on my food.

  “Cheese!” Jayde shouted.

“Yes, baby, that is cheese. And what is this?”

“Bread?” She looked to me and I nodded with a smile before kissing her temple.

“She’s very smart.” Deyana sat across from Jayde and me before digging into her food.

“Yeah, she is. I expected nothing less though from a baby of mine.”

“That’s funny because I know you’re serious. Are you always so cocky and stuck up or is it that you don’t like me?”

  “Both.”

“You don’t even know me, Jade, so how could you not like me? Don’t tell me you’re jealous, thinking Adrian and I have something going on.”

“I don’t get jealous, for one, I don’t care who it is. Ask Adrian and she’ll tell you. Plus, Adrian is very much in love with me so it would take more than some sneaky lawyer to make her stray.”

“Oooh, you don’t get jealous. I’ve never heard that one.”

“I’ve been known to show people new things.”

She chuckled as she bit into her piece of toast covered in that weird ass jam. Her eyes never left my direction as I continued to eat and feed Jayde. I was just happy the bitch stopped talking.

Once we were done eating, Jayde was cranky so I knew she was tired. I made her a cup of hot chocolate, more like lukewarm chocolate, and after that, she was knocked out for a nap. I liked for her to nap early because that way by the time it was night, she’d be tired again.

While Jayde slept in the guest room we usually stayed in while here, I decided to wash some of the clothes we had. Adrian let us use a couple drawers, because getting out the house with a duffle bag these days was harder to do with Hudson.

This week he’d been on a little comedy tour over in Arizona, so it was the perfect time for me to call my lawyer, and move more of Jayde’s and my things over here. He’d be back this evening though, and I think tonight or tomorrow morning I was gonna let him know my plans.

I was excited to start a life with Adrian and to stop being weak like Chaz said. That word alone made my skin crawl, so I refused to live up to it.

“Busy?” Deyana walked into the laundry room.

“What does it look like? And don’t you have somewhere to be? I thought you were this big-time lawyer.” I angrily separated the clothes because I was annoyed by her presence.

“I have a couple weeks off before I start back. I’ve been taking this time to find my own place. I think I’ve finally seen something that I like so I’ll be moving into it pretty soon if things go my way.”

  “Can’t wait.”

“You’re so rude, Jade, but it’s kind of sexy.”

“What?” I looked over at her. “I told Adri
an your ass was gay. I knew it even before I caught you watching us.”

“I don’t think I’m gay, but I am attracted to you.” She touched my hair so I smacked her hand away lightly. “You’re so damn gorgeous. I see why Adrian lets you play her for a fool.”

“I need you to back up.”

“Why?” She ran her delicate hands up the back of my thigh, as she pressed the front of her body against mine. “I think you like this.”

“No,” I whispered, lying like hell.

Deyana was so beautiful, and besides her personality, she was just my type. I was a lesbian so I liked women that looked like me. Adrian was more on the tomboy side, which I didn’t like. Don’t get me wrong, she wasn’t the type to wear men’s clothes, but she preferred jeans over skirts which I hated. Deyana, on the other hand, was always wearing shorts, tube tops, dresses, heels, sandals—all the things that made us fine. And even when she got dressed up for some meeting the other day, her business attire was sexy as hell.

“You do,” she spoke against my lips before kissing them gently.

Her tongue slipped into my mouth, as her hand continued up the back of my thigh and under my dress. She brushed her fingertips against the crotch of my underwear, before moving them to the side to toy with my clit.

“Mmm,” I mumbled just before she kissed me harder. “Ah,” I gasped lowly, feeling her fingers plunge inside of me.

I gripped her shoulders as she worked her hands, tapping my spot while licking and sucking on my neck. My legs started to weaken and tremble, and before I knew it I was exploding and shivering. Deyana slipped her fingers from between my legs, and as I panted, she licked the remnants off before smiling.

“I don’t know if I’m ready to move out just yet,” was all she said before turning on her heels and leaving me there in disbelief.

  Later that evening…

“Okay, okay,” I whimpered, pushing Deyana’s head from between my legs in the shower.

I’d just done her, and she quickly returned the favor and wouldn’t stop. I’d cum three times and my pussy was damn near sore.

“You’re lucky Adrian is almost home or I wouldn’t let you convince me to stop,” she smirked and grabbed my ass before stepping out of the shower.

As she brushed her teeth, I washed my body off again really quickly. Adrian would be home soon, and I wanted to leave and get to my own spot where Hudson was. I had to talk to him, but I also didn’t want to face Adrian because I’d been fucking her friend all damn day when I wasn’t playing with Jayde.

I think part of my attraction to Deyana was the fact that she had never been with a woman, which turned me on. I didn’t want this to go past today, but I recognized that look that she gave me after I ate her out: she was hooked.

I stepped out the shower and patted my body dry, as she watched while swishing mouthwash around. Once I got to the sink to brush mine, she spit it out and hugged me from behind.

“I put my number in your phone. You better call.” She bit down on my shoulder, which made me smile. I liked that she was womanly but a bit aggressive like a man.

As I brushed, I watched her leave the bathroom, enjoying the way her hips moved and the way her ass looked in the thong she was wearing. Once she was out of my sight, I finished my oral hygiene, then quickly dressed and got Jayde from her playpen in the guest room.

“Where, Mommy?” Jayde asked as I carried her down the stairs.

“We’re going to see Daddy for a little bit.”

“Yay!” She threw her little arms up, and then wrapped them around my neck.

We walked by the living area where Deyana was sitting on the couch and eating a bowl of cereal. She smiled at me, making me blush, which I couldn’t believe.

Getting outside to my car, I buckled Jayde in, and then made my way around to the driver’s side to head home. I couldn’t wait to get this talk with Hudson over with. Hopefully it’d go smoothly.

Jayde and I made it home about twenty minutes later, and I parked out on the street just in case I did leave again.

“Come on, baby,” I said as I pulled Jayde from her car seat.

I spotted Hudson’s car sitting in the driveway, so I took a deep breath and ran over everything I was gonna say in my head. Entering the house, I set my purse on the couch, and grabbed Jayde’s snack from the cabinet. I placed her down on the couch, and then opened it before reaching it out to her.

  “What do you say, Jayde?”

“Thank yooouu!” she poked her lips out as she shoved damn near her whole arm into the packaging.

“Where were you two?” Hudson’s deep voice bounced off the living room walls. I turned to face him, and he was wearing pajama pants with no top, showing his chiseled chest. He walked over to kiss Jayde and then stood up to peck me as well. I reciprocated but not enough, so he frowned.

“I was out, honey, but I need to talk to you.” I wiped my mouth off when he turned his back to me to sit down next to Jayde.

I took a seat across from them on the other couch, and removed my shoes.

“Well? What do you need to talk about because I’ve been meaning to talk to you about some shit too.”

“You have? Like what?” Maybe he was gonna ask me for a divorce. That would work well for me.

  “Ladies first.”

“Hudson, just tell me what you have to say.”

“I got your mail from your PO Box.”

“Why? Why the fuck are you going into my PO Box? And how did you even get inside of it.”

“Husbands can do shit like that,” he grimaced, making me nervous. “What happened to you changing your last name, Jade?” He opened the drawer of the end table and pulled out a few pieces of mail. “Benjamin! Benjamin! Benjamin! Benjamin!” He tossed each letter across the coffee table at me. “You ain’t Jade Benjamin no fucking more!”

“I know! I know that! It takes a lot of time to get my name changed and I just haven’t gotten around to it!”

“We’ve been married for almost a year, woman! You’ve had time! I want your damn name changed and I need the process started as early as tomorrow. I don’t care if you have to call off work!”

“Hudson I— uh, I don’t wanna be married to you anymore,” I said, just as he kissed Jayde and rose to his feet.

  “Come again?” His brows dipped.

“I-I said, I umm, I don’t want to be married— ah!” He yanked me up from the seat by my collar and shook me like a weightless rag doll.

“I’m gon’ ask you again, and you better say the right thing.”

  “Please, Hudson, don’t—”

  WHAM!

I spun around and flew into the TV, prompting Jayde to start crying my name. Chaz had rattled me before, even gripped me, but he never smacked me and like that.

Coming closer to me at an eerie pace, Hudson said through gritted teeth, “I don’t do divorces. And it’s about time yo’ ass gets some act right. You got me looking dumb out here and I ain’t dealing with that shit no more. You hear me?” He got close to my face as I leaned up against the TV, scared to move. “I asked if you heard me.”

  “Ye-yes, I hear you.”

“Good.” He gripped my face and crushed his lips against mine. I’d never been more disgusted by a kiss in all of my life.

  That same evening…

“Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!” Melody shouted as we rode the elevator. We were at the Static building about to visit Kordell.

“Dad!” KJ repeated, throwing his little arm up.

“Remember that Daddy is working so we can’t stay long and we can’t be too loud, okay?”

Melody nodded, but KJ just looked at me letting me know that what I’d said went in one ear and out of the other. Thankfully, he was a little better behaved around his father, so if anything, Kordell would have a handle on him.

The three of us entered the studio room to see Mischief at the mixer, Chaz next to him, and Kordell sitting in the back on the couch
. I spoke to Kordell’s brothers, and then looked at the two extra guys in there with two girls near them.

“Daddy!” Melody rushed from by me to jump on Kordell.

  “Melody, what did I say!”

“Sorry!” she replied as Kordell kissed her cheek and gave her some money.

“Come here, man,” he said to KJ as I handed him over, and then sat next to Melody. “You’ve been good for ya mama?” he asked him and his little ass nodded right away knowing he was lying.

“I wanna make some!” Melody hopped off the couch from in between Kordell and I, and rushed to Mischief, who put her in his lap so she could ‘produce’.

“You look nice.” Kordell gripped my thigh with his free hand, and leaned over to kiss my lips. When he did, I saw one of the girls watching.

“Why are y’all here?” I quizzed.

“Huh?” one of them replied, while the other continued to dance to the music on one of the guys.

“Why. Are. Y’all. Here? I don’t like bitches in the studio when my man is trying to work. And these niggas ain’t doing shit, so all of y’all can leave,” I replied, clapping my hands at the beginning and sitting up. “This dick right here is mine!”

The only time hoes came to the studio was when they wanted to hop on something, and I’ll be damned if they thought they were gonna be sitting on my nigga’s dick.

“Baby.” Kordell tried to calm me as his brothers laughed heartily.

“Actually, Donny is working.” The girl pointed to one of the guys who was looking at me like a deer in headlights.

“On what? I ain’t never seen or heard of this nigga!”

Mischief and Chaz started laughing, as Kordell put his hand on my midsection and started to kiss my neck.

  “Cassie—”

“Leave! Y’all need to go!” I cut Kordell off.

The girl ignored me and grabbed her Starbucks cup to sip out of it. I hopped up, slipping past Kordell, which was easy because he had KJ in his lap. Snatching her cup, I peeled the top off and tossed the contents right into her face.

“Get out,” I stated calmly, throwing the cup, straw, and then top in her face as she stood there with her mouth open and eyes shut closed.
