She blinked and tears coursed down her face. She wiped them away. “It’s too late.”
He gripped her arms, pulled her onto her toes. “Don’t say that. Please, don’t say that. I love you.” He shook her and she grabbed ahold of his shoulders. “I’ve never stopped loving you. I want to spend the rest of our lives together. Please don’t leave me again,” he said hoarsely. “I don’t think I could survive.”
Sobbing, she covered her mouth with one hand.
“I love you, too,” she told him, laughter mixing with her tears. “I love you. I won’t leave you. I won’t ever leave you again.”
And as her husband kissed her, Yvonne finally found where she belonged.
