Thirst

“I have killed you” Summer said confidently.
Lilith placed the sword in her left hand and swung around catching Seneca in the side. Instead of pulling the sword out, she left it in and kept moving it in a back and forth direction as if trying to cut him into. Blood was pouring from his side, it could not heal. Summer took this moment to swipe at a leg. She felt the bone snap and as the left leg fell away and Lilith sensing she was in trouble let go of the sword and took flight to where she had left Kelsey.
“Seneca was trying to pry the sword out of his side and he screamed at Summer, “Go, go get our daughter”
“I can’t Summer said, I have to help you.”
Damn it Summer, forget me, this is the chance we have waited on, get Kelsey and finish her. I will be there as soon as I get this sword out of me. Now go!”
Summer did as she was told and took flight to the cathedral.
When she landed the blood of Lilith was everywhere. A missing hand and half a leg will do that. Where was she? Summer thought.
From the backside of the roof she heard a thud and quickly ran across it to see.
Lilith lay on the ground.
Cautiously Summer landed on the ground beside her as Seneca came running and wound healing. It had never taken a wound so long to heal.
Where was Kelsey and Lilith’s sword, both were nowhere to be found. Summer had her sword drawn as Seneca bent over to check the body of Lilith. She appeared to be dead, but he remembered what had happened to Michael. The moment of truth was upon them and they knew in a matter of minutes if she was not dead, she would be no more. The sun was getting ready to rise. Where was Kelsey damn it!
The sun rose and they watched the body of the demon that had tormented him for over two thousand years turn to ashes. She was gone. He couldn’t believe it. But what happened to there daughter and the sword? How had they just disappeared?
If all was correct, this was the end of the evil ones. Mankind would be safe and their blood supply would remain intact for the rest of the world’s existence.
Summer looked at him as she felt the sun on her face. Is this the end? Is this all there was to what you have been fighting for?”
He had no answers. He looked at her and said, it is not over until I find Kelsey. It is now more than a thirst for blood, it is a thirst of a father’s love.
Epilogue
“The Devil is in the Details”
She takes her seat at the table, looks down at the dark wood as if considering her words carefully before she spoke.
“He has served us well. He took it upon himself to be patient and accept every challenge that was laid before him over these many, many years. Did he sometimes know why he was fighting and if it would ever end? No, he did not. Is he prepared for what lies before him? He thinks it is over except his search for his daughter. Can he accept the fact that it will be many many years until he sees her again?”
“My lady,” One of the men spoke up. “Do we even know for sure what our future holds? Why can we not enter these battles and rid ourselves of the dark ones once and for all?”
The lady raised her hand as if enough, be silent and listen to me. “Even I do not understand why things must be this way. It is what it is. He is our true savior as we have known. He was foretold in the writings. If not for him we would all perish. We have equaled out the numbers, but as much as we may not like it, they are still the stronger species. We have let Seneca believe a lie only on our part. He is the only one that can destroy them. Yes, we all thought the destruction of Lilith was and would be the end, but only those not made by her turned to ashes. It was not what we thought it would be.”
“Yes, we all understand that. But who is left that could possibly be stronger than her? The Dark Council is gone. There is no structure to what they do. Does this mean the humans are in for a much darker time in the coming days?”
“Yes, yes, I am quiet sure of it. Everything that was written talked of the destruction of the evil one. The female, the devil, that old snake. If she was not it, then who could it be?”
“Could it be his daughter?” One of the men spoke up.
“I do not know,” The woman said. I wold think not. His son did not last against him. So what would make her different?”
“I guess we shall wait and see my lady.”
“If it is not his daughter, then let us think about this. What ever happened to Lilith’s vampire, Alexandria? She would be one made by her and therefore not meeting her fate at her destruction.”
All the men nodded their heads up and down as if in approval, yes, this could be it.
“Yes, she is a strong one. Very powerful and even more bullheaded than her creator. It is possible that she could be the next in line to try and seal the fate of the humans and us. I have not seen Alexandria in years, many millennium. If she is still alive she has hid as well as I. I do not wish to see her ever again, she created me that night so long ago. We shall have to give this time and eventually the truth will come out. We all that sometimes the devil is in the details.” And with that Caelina placed her head in her hands and said, “Stay strong my son. Are you ready for what awaits you?’
