  Secrets of Mana Cycling (0/5)

After investing all 5 points this will teach you the secret of naturally recharging your enchantments using latent mana.

There were some good options. Arthur was going to have to work on Secrets of Mana Cycling, but he settled on Power of Symbols. Being able to properly use 4 symbols in an enchantment should help him create more powerful enchantments.

When Arthur finished the leather, he turned his attention to the forge. The first thing he needed to deal with was the silver and copper. It was time to create a new spell. Rowan had a silver and copper coin he could use as a reference. He pulled out the silver and the copper ore and found two small chests.

The first part was going to be melting them down and separating the metal from the chunks of impurities. Once Arthur managed that, he should be able to use his Arcane Forging spell to make the coins. So to start, he had to develop magic for melting the metal. A chunk of the copper ore was surrounded by a fire shield. He then raised the temperature in the protection until the metal started to flow.

Weaving his Earth Magic into the spell, he was able to pull the impurities away from the ore. Once they were separated, he held the melted metal with his earth magic and let the contaminants fall out of the protection.

While it was still hot and he was holding it aloft with magic, he pictured the copper coin and pictured as many coins as possible with this amount of metal. He started the forging spell and watched the metal flow into the thickness of the coins, and then the line of power flowed over the metal, and the coins started appearing. The chunk of ore turned out 30 copper coins, and he also received a spell.

  Mage-crafted Copper Coin

  Durability: 15/15

  Rarity: Uncommon

  Quality: Well crafted

  Weight: 0.1 kg

Traits: A standard copper coin of currency. This coin was made using magic means and can accept more magical power.

Well, his idea worked fine. The problem was he doubted common currency in the world was mage-crafted. He decided to stick with the coins he had made anyway. The mage-crafted currency would allow him to enchant them easier and would help prevent fraud in the future. He went ahead and melted the rest of the copper as well as silver.

Traits: A standard silver coin of currency. This coin was made using magic means and can accept more magical power.

He now had 1,260 copper coins and 300 silver coins to work with. That could allow him to start handing out some coppers as rewards for orders. They needed to get an idea of fair trade value. He wasn’t going to rely on other cities for prices because he knew they were all in horrible shape, and the costs would be all wrong. The leaders of the village would need to set fair prices. He also went ahead and put the 2 points from his Arcane Smithing level into Will of the Many.

Arthur had another idea he had to try out as well. He wanted to make a stack of arrowheads, but he had a new design to try. Hopefully, it wouldn’t be a failure. He grabbed a chunk of iron and tossed it in the fire. While it was heating up, he pictured the design. He was changing the design of the arrows and was also doing an additional step.

The act of engraving the symbols for his enchanting took a long time. Being able to do it on loads of arrowheads would take forever. Since his spell replicated what he pictured. He was going to try and forge them with his arcane forging with the symbols already engraved on them. This would just mean he had to dump mana into them to activate the enchantments.

Arthur pictured the new design with the forged symbols and lifted the metal out of the fire. He cast his arcane forging spell and watched the metal flow somewhat flat, and then the line of power carved out the arrowheads. To his pleasure, the arrowheads appeared how he had pictured them, and the symbols seemed to be correct. These would be lethal.

He went ahead and imbued them with his mana, and to his surprise, the mana was pulled into all of them at once. It looked like batch created items would also complete enchantments together. This would save him a ton of time having to enchant each one individually. The magic finished, and he was pleased with his new arrowheads.

These would be perfect. Arthur spent some time making more of these. He decided to make 10 more sets of them so they would have 165 sitting in reserve.

He decided to put all 4 points into Charge Up for his Enchanting levels. Charged items would be a significant focus now that he had the storage secrets unlocked, as well. He should be able to create some beneficial things for the village. The arrowheads were taken over to Rowan to show them off.

Rowan looked at them and whistled appreciatively. His eyebrows rose as he saw the details on the item.

“Those are some damn nasty things, aren’t they?”

“They are, but they are exclusively for our fight.”

“Should give us an advantage for sure,” Rowan said.

“Either way I’m off to the inn, I managed to get the coins completed so I’ll take them
with me. We will have to discuss fair prices soon so we can start using them as rewards. I’ll take the arrowheads as well. I’m hoping Zeke has the orders done for feathered arrow shafts. If so, I’ll have him get these completed.” Arthur told him.

“Goodnight then, Arthur,” Rowan said with a wave.

Arthur cleaned up his area in the shop, grabbed the two boxes of coins, and walked to the inn. He kept the arrowheads in his bag so he wouldn’t have to worry about them. Once inside the inn, he handed the chests to Daniel, who opened them and eyed the contents. Daniel looked surprised. Arthur was pretty sure it was the uncommon quality of the coins, but he only nodded and took them to stash them.

Arthur was pleased to see Zeke there, and the man had been working overtime. There were more than enough shafts, and Arthur completed his work orders. He then presented the man with the arrowheads and asked him to complete the arrows. He stressed the importance of getting them back to him and keeping it quiet. The man was more than happy to oblige.

Zeke also surprised Arthur by handing him a beautiful yew bow. The middle was carved into the vague shape he had seen from compound bows back on earth, but the ends of the arms curved like a recurved style bow. It was beautifully crafted and looked fantastic. He submitted the work order for Zeke and accepted the item. Arthur was glad to now have himself a good bow since Vana got the dungeon one.

  Carved Yew Bow

  Attack: 12-16

  Durability: 75/75

  Rarity: Uncommon

  Quality: Well Crafted

  Weight: 1.8 kg

  Slot: Main Hand

Traits: A bow made of wood from a yew tree.

The only thing that could have made it better was if Arthur had stopped him to enchant it before the man finished it. Oh well, it would suit his purposes. The day was long, and he settled into bed with Balair and fell asleep. The dragon had been worthless all day just sleeping anyway, so Arthur was surprised he was still going to sleep now. He dozed off to sleep.

  Chapter 28

  Fight for the Village

The morning of the sixth day started similar to the last five. Arthur got himself up, threw Balair off of him, and got dressed. He made his way downstairs and kissed Allendria on the cheek. They had been spending time with each other more often now. She had been working on her Earth Magic alongside him every day when he worked on the wall. She had even managed to make it high enough where Arthur was able to teach her the spell Raise Stone Wall. Her base size wasn’t as big as his, but she was quickly progressing.

They were eating their food at the table when the father and son woodcutting duo burst into the inn in a rush. The father looked around the room frantically and finally spotted Arthur. He headed straight to him as fast as he could and stopped at Arthur’s table.

“My Lord Mayor, we have spotted trouble outside of town.” He said partially out of breath.

“Calm down, good man, and Arthur is just fine. What have you seen?” Arthur asked.

“We were out early this morning, harvesting wood from the forest edge to the east of town when we saw a large group of travelers headed down the road. We only waited until they were close enough for us to barely make them out, but it looks like the attacking force you were expecting is getting here early.”

“What?” Arthur exclaimed as he jumped up from his chair. “How many were there?”

“It was hard to get an accurate count. We left before they got too close so we could get here and give warning. There looked to be at least twenty.”

“Damn, all right, I need to get moving this morning. I have to get the last few preparations made and gather anyone who wants to help.”

The lumberjack stepped forward and held his hand out to Arthur. “I am with you, Arthur. I have at least a basic comprehension with a bow and would be willing to help.”

Arthur took his hand and shook it. He learned the man’s name was James, and his son was named Jack. James followed him and left Jack in the safety of the inn. They made their way to the back, where he found Daniel.

“Daniel looks like our time is up for preparations. James just spotted the attack group making their way from the eastern road where we thought they might approach from.”

“Damn, they must have run across a group of them traveling the countryside and returned quicker than we thought. Numbers?”

“Can’t be certain, but we are expecting at least twenty.” Daniel looked pale for a moment but then shook it off. He hadn’t seen Arthur’s group in action but knew they were an incredible group.

“I’ll start gathering all the townsfolk here. You grab what weapons you think we will need and get them here for the fight. We may have a few more volunteers shortly.” Daniel told him.

“I’ll make it happen,” Arthur turned and dashed off to the blacksmith. He found Rowan working diligently on some iron. Rowan saw the look he had and the speed in which he approached and stopped what he was doing.

  “What’s wrong, Arthur?”

“The attacking force is early. They have just been spotted to the east. We still have a little time before they get here, so we are preparing. It might be time for you to dust off your axe. I wish I had time to make you some proper armor, but I wasn’t expecting them here yet.” Arthur told him.

“I’ll be fine. I did make myself some basic greaves, sabatons, and bracers. I also have an old chest piece that didn’t turn out how I wanted, but it’s better than nothing.” He told him.

Arthur thought about it real quick. He decided to go with his idea. “Let me see that chest piece. I might be able to fix it up real quick.”

Rowan walked into the shop and pulled out an old and worn looking chest piece of iron. It looked like it had seen better days, and it was not the best quality to start with. Arthur focused on his magical gifts and grabbed a small chunk of spare iron laying around. Instead of thinking of the process as he did for his forging skill, he pictured the extra iron he had melding into the breastplate and filling in the bad dings and cracks. This should smooth out the design and even out the width of all of it as it should have been. He used his power of fire to bring the metals up to heat and then used his earth magic to smooth it out. He focused more flame on the extra chunk of metal until it was almost molten and used his earth magic to guide it to fix the cracks and dents. He finished his work and was pleased that the magic had only taken him about half of his total mana, and to his surprise, he got a new skill for it.

Congratulations, you have learned Arcane Repair for a 100 experience bonus.

Congratulations, you have learned the Crafting Spell: Arcane Repair (Metal). You have gained 350 experience in Fire and Earth Magic for discovering a known spell.

  Mastery Level: 1

Rowan looked at the item in wonder. The original chest piece had been poor quality and looked like hammered shit. The repaired version of it was back to one good solid breastplate that had even thicknesses and none of the nasty looking hammer marks or dents. It also increased to Fair quality rating.

“Damn, Arthur, you are going to put me out of business if you keep that kind of work going,” Rowan told him.

Arthur thought about that statement for a moment. “I’ll tell you what Rowan, you have been a good friend to me and have helped me plenty. Once we finish up this fight for the village, I will train you in Earth and Fire Magic and then teach you to become an Arcane Smith like myself. It wo
uld be good to have someone other than just myself doing this. There is never enough time in the day.”

Rowan looked immensely pleased. “I could never repay you for that, Arthur. Not only would you be teaching me, not one, but two magic skills, something that is quite unheard of, but you would also be teaching me a hidden art. I don’t know if I can accept that.” He said humbly.

“Anything for a friend Rowan. We will make it happen one way or another. Let’s get this gear to the inn and start getting everyone ready.”

They loaded up the cart with all of the different pieces of gear that had been made. Rowan had been working nonstop to make things for today, and Arthur had a few spare blades lying around from items he swapped out or made in his early blacksmithing. All said and done, they could fully armor two additional people with iron armor, not counting Rowan’s armor he would personally wear.

They made it back to the inn and saw a crowd of people gathered there. They pushed their cart through to the inn, and he went searching for Daniel.

“Daniel, where are you?” Arthur called over the crowd.

“Over here, Arthur.” He heard Daniel call from his right. He made it to the man to assess the situation.

  “Any more news?”

“I had James just come back in and said it looks like they are about an hour from the wall now. They don’t appear to be pushing themselves real fast. I bet they think they will just walk through the town, destroying everything. They haven’t made it to where they can see the wall and gatehouse yet.” Not sure how much good they will do, though since they are short, and the gatehouse has no gate yet.” He said grimly.
