“You make that gown look magnificent.”

“Thank you.” She was choked up. He brought her something when he knew she was rich enough to buy whatever she wanted, but he wanted it to come from him.

He walked over and picked her up and took her to the bed. He placed his hand over her stomach when he sat her down.

“Lie back.” His voice was making her hot and bothered. It had kept her hot and bothered all day. She had been counting down the minutes until she would have him in bed again.

She eagerly laid back and spread her legs, a smile of come hither on her lips. All she wanted for Christmas was Kore.

He crawled onto the bed letting the towel drop that was tied around his waist.

His beauty still amazed her. He was sculpted out of tanned skin and long sleek muscles that made her heart beat faster while her pussy throbbed. If it was just about his looks, she could have walked away. There was so much more to him. His heart had the capacity to love that made her gawk in wonder. He treated her like she was the most special person he ever met.

Kore had allowed her to turn his life upside down, from the little things like cleaning the kitchen or fridge to the big things like putting a tree up and decorating. He went out of his way to make her feel welcomed, and she did. Not just welcomed, she felt like she was home.

He kissed her his lips moving sweetly over her own encouraging her to open up. She let him in and moaned when his tongue touched hers. The male knew how to raise her passion with a simple kiss.

He half laid his body on hers, and she gave a sweet cry of pleasure. She loved feeling his weight on her; it added to the protected feeling he wrapped her in. It also made her hot to think of him over her, sinking deeply into her.

For a minute she stopped feeling something in her body, but it was gone like a bad dream. She shook it off and placed her hands on his shoulders. She scooted down until she was even with his chest, bringing her head up she latched onto a nipple sucking and pulling at it.

A deep moan left his mouth making her ache with need. He placed a hand behind her back and turned them over until she was on top of him. This felt so much better. She gave him a quick grin before she sucked his other nipple into her mouth.

Her fingers were between her legs and she played with her clit while her mouth made his small nipples rock hard.

“That’s my job.” His voice was thick with passion as he moved her hand and replaced it with his.

He rubbed his hard cock against her leg, making her want to jump him right away.

  “I want you.”

“Mmm,” his moan of appreciation filled her ears making her head spin.” I want to taste you, Eden.”

“We have to pace ourselves,” she said even as she was lifting up placing her hungry pussy over his thick cock.

She rocked back and forth until she had the head of his cock buried deep inside her then she met his gaze and sat on him taking all of his cock deep inside of her. Two screams of pleasure came from them as she panted.

“You feel so good inside of me. I don’t think I’ve ever been this full before.

“Be careful, Eden. Saying things like that will go to my head.” He ground up into her making her push down against him.

Placing her hands on his chest, she began to rise and fall on his cock making it hard for both of them to breathe as the pleasure swamped them. How can I give this up, she wondered as she threw her head back in pleasure? How can I give Kore up?”

He thrust up and swirled his hips at the same time. Thinking went out the window, and all she could feel was pleasure. It dragged through her body like claws marking her, possessing her, never letting her go. Her pussy was clenching around him, her belly was on fire with desire, and she came, her world breaking apart once again. She shot straight up in the sky, and the thought came for just a minute. What would it feel like to fly?

Kore wrapped his arms around Eden while she snuggled down on his body. She closed her eyes and fell asleep. He held her allowing his warmth to seep into her.

His body had been tensed since they ran into the evil at the store— Ha’cho. It simply meant evil one. If he had a name no one knew it or they weren’t talking about it. Having her safe in his arms made him feel better, but he knew Ha’cho wouldn’t stop, the question was why? Other shifters had found mates even though he killed as many of the other females as possible, why was it so important that he not mate? Was Eden truly becoming a female angel? That seemed like an impossibility.

When Ha’cho made the move to kill the female shifters he started with the angels, no one knew why. It was so many centuries ago that no one could remember if there was anything special about them. He and his brothers were too young to know if there was something special about their mom, besides the fact that she was their mom, and she loved them, cuddling them a little too much. He spent years wishing he had one more chance to hug her.

Now the evil wanted Eden. He couldn’t have her; he’d give up his life to protect her. His arms tightened around her as his eyes closed. It was the flailing of her body that woke him up.

She screamed and jerked herself off of him. Her fingers clawed at her belly.

“Eden,” he raised his voice trying to be heard over her frantic screams. He reached out to touch her and pulled his hand away; she was burning up.

Her eyes opened, and the whites of her eyes were red.

  “So hot,” she moaned.

He picked her up and ran for the door, turning around he laid her on the bed and dressed her in a pair of jeans and the flannel she loved. He grabbed boots and a coat before he picked her up again and ran outside standing on the porch attached to their bedroom.

His body grew, his eyes changed shape and his wings extended to their full size. With a beat of them, they were airborne. He held her close wrapping her in a cocoon of warm air as he made his way towards the city, Talon’s words repeating in his mind.

When they reached South Central Medical, he landed by the emergency entrance, moving until he was sure no one could see them. He allowed his body to be seen and strode into the hospital with her in his arms.

“Makal!’ He raised his voice and called out never even looking at the woman sitting at the intake desk.

“Makal!” He shouted again. The door to his left opened, and a Doctor as tall as him strode out. If anyone looked at both of them together, they would think they were seeing double. Although not twins, they looked a lot alike.

“Who is she?” He was already doing a preliminary on her. His stethoscope was out, and he was listening to her heart. He placed his hand on her brow and turned shocked eyes up to Kore’s

  “My mate.”

Makal didn’t argue or ask questions. He turned on his heel and walked away knowing Kore would follow him. They walked into a private exam room.

“Lock the door,” he told Kore as he pulled up the hem of Eden’s shirt until her belly was exposed.

He placed his hands on her, and his body began to light up. Kore paced back and forth knowing that Makal couldn’t speak until his exam was finished.

“Someone is trying to kill her. They almost succeeded,” Makal said as he became aware of his body. His eyes that had gone completely white were now a lighter green than his brothers once again.

  “What do you mean?”

“Give her blood and I will tell you.”

Kore walked over to her and looked at his brother. If he gave her his blood, he would always be linked to her whether she liked it or not. He wanted that link, desired it with all his heart, but it wasn’t right to do without telling her.

“Without your blood, she will die. It will take too long to get the antidote for the poison she was given. At this point, I’m not sure the antidote will even work.”

Kore nodded. He would have to find a way to make it up to her, but he couldn’t lose her. The thought of a world without her in it was more than he could take. He lifted his right wrist and cut over his Jewel watching the blood mar the surface of
it before he leaned over Eden.”

“Sweetheart, you have to drink this. It’s the only cure we have.” He turned her head towards him placing his wrist on her slightly open mouth. Slowly she worked to drink his blood until Makal told him she had taken enough.

  Chapter Thirteen

“There are traces of the plant Oleander in her system. It can be deadly, but someone mixed it with another toxin that made it slow acting and helped to disguise what was killing her, there is no known cure for that combination. I may have been able to pull something off but not in time to save her life. I know how it works now so I’ll be looking for an antidote.” Kore nodded; he was standing next to her bed holding her hand.

  “What do we do now?”

“I want her to stay here for at least two days so I can keep an eye on her.”

“She’ll need a private room.” He raised his head to look his brother in the eyes.

“I know; I knew who she was the minute you brought her in. I bet it’s a fascinating story, but I want to know about you calling her mate.”

“Did anyone get a good look at her when I brought her in?” Protecting her identity hadn’t been on his radar at the time, or he would have made sure she was wearing her hat. All he could think about was saving her life and what he was going to do to Marcus for trying to kill her.

“I doubt it. The look of pain and grief on your face kept everyone too focused on you. No one even thought to look at her.”

Kore nodded, most people were enthralled with angels, even when they were in their human forms. He had been in angel form and just changed back, the raw emotions on his face would have captivated most people around him as his feelings reached out to touch each one of them.

“Her safety is important to me.” He picked up her left wrist and showed it to his brother. Makal gasped and came closer looking at it.

  “This is impossible.”

“I thought it was too, but here she is, and the Jewel is forming.” “What did you do? How did you get the Jewel to form?” Makal’s phone rang; he raised a finger signaling Kore to wait.

“Dr. Makal speaking.” He answered the phone and made sounds of agreement as the person on the other end spoke. “She’s on the eighth floor, room 810. That’s perfect, mark it as private. I don’t want anyone entering or exiting that room without my express permission. Her husband is with her; he will have authority to enter and exit. I will be bringing the patient up myself as well as doing vital signs. Thank you, Marie.”

He hung up the phone and looked at Eden who was still unmoving.

“She’ll have a private room. The only two with the authority to enter will be you and I. Let’s get her upstairs so she’ll be more comfortable.”

Kore nodded pulling the sheet up to her chin and covering the side of her face making it hard for anyone to get a good look at her. They pushed the bed to the elevator made small talk with the people who got on. On the eight floor, Makal stopped at the nurse’s station, collected the paperwork, and continued to the room where Kore already had Eden in bed.

“When will she wake up?” Kore asked Makal as he slipped into the room.

“Sometime in the next twenty-four hours.”

  “What’s happening, Kore?”

“I don’t know.” He gave Makal a quick rundown on how he met Eden and the fact that her loving fiancé, the one everyone was feeling sorry for, was trying to kill her.

“I knew the moment I saw her. It didn’t make any sense, and I knew that too, but she is the one. The more time I spend with her, the more she invades my heart. I feel a connection with her. It’s even greater now that my blood runs in her veins, but it was there before that.”

  “Does she understand?”

“How can she understand something I don’t understand? I’ve told her she is my mate. She’s wary which makes a lot of sense and makes me feel better. If she just threw her arms around me and said it was great, I would wonder.”

“I agree acceptance like that is something we’re not use to.”

Kore nodded and moved around the room. It was truly a private room only big enough for one patient. The walls were a tranquil blue with a decent television hanging from them. He looked for music, but there wasn’t any, so he took out his phone and found a Christmas station that Eden had been listening to, the music filled the room with soft notes.

“Ha’cho appeared at the store we were in,” he said softly, not wanting anyone lingering by the door to hear.

“What?” Makal was leaning over Eden; he stood and turned to look at Kore. “Ha’cho has not been seen in at least two centuries. What did he want?”

  “Eden.”

Makal placed his hand on his chest like he had been punched there before turning around and taking a seat.

“Does this mean anything to you?”

“Maybe, there’s a rumor going around that Kace is dreaming.”

“Kace doesn’t dream anymore.” Kace was their younger brother; he was also the one who first dreamed all the females would die. He raised an alarm but he was too young to be taken seriously. That’s what the adults told him until the females began to die, by then it was too late.

  “What did he dream of?”

“He said he saw a female angel spreading her wings. She took off flying high into the sky, and her laughter had power.”

“Ha’cho referred to Eden as a female angel. He wanted her. I’m not sure what he planned to do with her, but I didn’t feel like sitting around and finding out. I told him no. He said he would make sure we paid for that. I thought maybe this sickness was from him.”

Makal shook his head no. “This is the handiwork of a human.”

“Do you remember the female angels being anything special?”

“You mean other than the fact that they were the other halves of our souls?”

  “Yeah.”

“I have a vague memory of dad telling me that everything I see I take for granted. When I grow up, I would see how special it all was. He was watching mom do something at the time. I’ve wondered about that a lot. You have a special talent, so do I and Kace. Why wouldn’t the females have special talents or even more sought out after talents than ours?”

“What can be more special than being able to save a life?”

“Being able to save your mate when her car goes over a cliff.” A smile pulled at Kore’s lips. That was a very special talent.

“Tomorrow around nine a.m. Marie is going to come in. She’s going to bring some medicine I want you to get into Eden. It will help your blood in curing the damage the poison created.”

  “Thank you, Makal.”

“What are brothers for?” They pounded each other on the back before Makal left the room.

  *~*~*~*

Eden’s body ached. Had her car hit the water in the ravine and she somehow managed to survive? She tried to open her eyes, but nothing happened. There was darkness surrounding her. Where was Kore? Opening her mouth to cry out no words would emerge.

  Was she dead?

“Not yet, but I’m working on it.”

The voice was like claws raking at her skin. Pain exploded in her head, and she tried desperately to get away, but nothing happened.

“You’re not going anywhere at least not yet.” The darkness began to recede being taken over by a mild light. That’s when she realized her eyes were open the whole time. She was standing on a flat surface that stretched out in every direction. All she could see was the vast expanse, no trees, grass, or even hills.

“This is the place between life and death. The place you humans refuse to believe exists, but then again you refuse to believe a lot of things exist. I am Ha’cho.” He gave her a formal bow.

He was still a shadow as far as she could see. It didn’t matter if she looked directly at him or the reflective surface under him, all she saw was a shadow.

  “Where’s your body?”

“What you see is what you get.” He gave her a smile showing serrated teeth.

“Why am I here?” The last thing she remembered was curling up on Kore and being amazed that she could lay on him without him complaining she was too heavy.

“You were kind enough to die, well almost die. Now you’re here in this world deciding whether to leave it all behind or go back to whatever is waiting for you. I’m here to encourage you to die now and make it easy on everyone involved.”

  “Kore.”

“Kore will suffer when he watches me cut you down. I kind of like that idea, but if you die and save me the trouble I won’t complain.”

“You don’t even know me, why do you want me dead?” She struggled to move. She was no longer standing. Instead, she was lying in bed, but her body felt like it had been tied down.

“I don’t have to know you, I know what you will become, and I can’t have that.”

His form seemed more solid now like he was thinking of taking on the shape of a male.

His laughter filled up the large open space. “Tricky angel. I won’t be revealing myself or my plans to you.”

She wriggled her hands trying to break free. The minute the Jewel on her left wrist made contact with the band, it lit up and burned its way through. Her hand sprang up.

“The female angels knew something about you, didn’t they? Did they know how to stop you or imprison you?”

She talked making guesses in the dark while she freed her other hand. “Females think they are so smart. They didn’t know a thing.”

She sat up in the bed her attention turning to him. “They did know something, or they were going to know something, that’s why you killed them.

She reached down and quickly undid her feet moving to the edge of the bed to stand on shaky legs.

“That’s why you came after me. You’re scared whatever information they had or would have will come into my possession.” She moved back slowly knowing if she went to fast she was going to fall, but the need to put space between them was imperative.
