Joyce Green is a former Foxfire Magazine facilitator, having served in Foxfire’s classroom for over thirteen years before retiring from Rabun County High School. She has been involved with Foxfire since the mid-’80s, serving on the community board as well as the scholarship committee. She was chosen as Rabun County’s Teacher of the Year in 2003. She currently (2010) teaches part-time at Mountain Education Center High School, a nontraditional Georgia charter school.
Casi Best is a former Foxfire Magazine senior editor who worked on the magazine staff during most of her tenure at Rabun County High School. She is a remarkable young lady, cancer survivor, outstanding role model, and dedicated Christian. Casi is a Foxfire Julia Fleet Scholarship recipient who is currently in her second year of nursing school at Piedmont College in Demorest, Georgia.
Teresa Gentry is a former Foxfire magazine staff member and editor. As a Foxfire student, she helped to write and edit several of the books in the Foxfire Press series and worked with Foxfire during the summer months. Teresa was a Foxfire Scholarship recipient who graduated from Berry College. She is currently working for WebMD and, with her husband, John, is raising a son and a daughter.
Ben McClain, a 2010 graduate of Rabun County High School, is attending college to focus on photography—a field he became greatly interested in while a Foxfire Magazine student. While assisting on the anniversary book this summer, Ben also worked with Foxfire’s curator, Barry Stiles, to replace several roofs on the cabins at The Foxfire Museum and Heritage Center.
Ann Moore, Foxfire’s president and executive director, started with Foxfire in May 1976, just two years after graduating from Rabun Gap–Nacoochee School. While working with Foxfire full-time, she went on to obtain a diploma in accounting from North Georgia Technical College and attend night classes through Truett-McConnell College. She came to Foxfire to serve as bookkeeper and, over the years, moved into various roles within the organization, including administrator and acting president, before being named president in 2000.
Kaye Carver Collins has been one of the cornerstones of the Foxfire program for many years. A Foxfire student in the seventies, she later served on the staff as the community and teacher liaison. She is currently teaching math at Rabun County Middle School but continues to spend some of her summers with Foxfire, helping write and edit books. Kaye provides valuable input and resources and devotes her personal time to any project that arises, while also serving on Foxfire’s board of directors and community board.
Lee Carpenter, Foxfire’s computer and design “hired gun,” provides contract work on an as-needed basis. He graduated from Rabun County High School in 1990, then went on to Young Harris College and Valdosta State University, earning a BFA in television production. His day job is working as a prepress operator at Gap Graphics & Printing in Clayton, Georgia, but he spends many nights and weekends working for Foxfire in several capacities, and also writes and edits Foxfire’s newsletters and maintains the website. Lee is truly a jack-of-all-trades.

Margie Bennett taught the Foxfire magazine class during its later years at Rabun Gap–Nacoochee School and then at Rabun County High School. She has been a valuable asset to Foxfire in numerous capacities, living at The Foxfire Museum and Heritage Center for many years with her husband, Bob, to be full-time hosts to visiting teachers and students; guiding the summer work program; helping to write and edit books and magazines; and just being available wherever and whenever needed. You could never write a history of Foxfire that did not include Margie Bennett.
Lacy Hunter Nix is a former Foxfire Magazine student and scholarship recipient who has returned on several occasions to help write and edit several Foxfire books. Lacy has the ability to connect and form a bond with contacts that always develops into lasting friendships. She graduated from Brenau College in Gainesville, Georgia, with a degree in music, and now is a full-time, stay-at-home mom, raising with her husband, Chris, their two beautiful girls. Like her mother before her, Lacy is a wonderful pianist.
Sheri Thurmond (not pictured), a Foxfire Scholarship recipient, graduated several years ago with a degree in social work from Truett-McConnell College, then returned to school in 2009 to receive her teaching degree from Piedmont College. During her time at Rabun County High School, she was a Foxfire magazine student who worked with Foxfire during the summer months in the archives. Sheri has continued to work with Foxfire as a volunteer, though her time is limited due to her working two full-time jobs while searching for a teaching position.
