Just then, she heard the shuffle of feet on the front porch.
HQ was protected by a state of the art security system. Nobody could get through it. Storm had installed the sucker, and it was supposed to be impenetrable. Everyone was home, asleep in their beds upstairs.
Mac pulled out her weapon and stepped into the hallway, going slowly, edging toward the entrance.
Slowly, the door creaked open.
And Mack cocked her pistol, prepared to shoot whoever walked through the front door. She sucked in a breath, tensing up, ready to do battle.
