Beasts in Winter

Selena took her hand in hers and patted it. “You will see them again someday.”
“I will?”
Gazing across the room, she said, “And your uncle, as well.”
Angel looked down at her hands. “I know…I know he passed away and that he’s in Heaven. I suppose I’ll see him someday, in that sense, but—”
“No, ma chère, he’s across the room,” Selena said as she pointed.
There, in the doorway, stood a marvelously tall, completely healed, and very much alive Harrison Hunter, and at his side was his hospice care nurse, Patricia, looking radiant in a red velvet gown and her hair done up in an intricate style with a little red velvet cap on top. She looked stunned at the surroundings, but Angel noticed she held on tight to Harrison’s crooked elbow as he escorted her into the room.
“Your uncle and his lady love are welcome to remain here. I’ve left that up to them to decide.”
The reunion was a tearful and joyous affair, and Angel turned to the enchantress as she looked on with pleasure. “Thank you so much. You’ve made my fondest dreams and wishes come true. How can I ever thank you?”
Selena gently turned her so she faced the two men, her former captors, her friends, her lovers, and soon her husbands, as they stood at the edge of the group watching her with indulgence in their eyes. “You can thank me by allowing me to officiate at your wedding to those two beasts…and by living happily ever after.”
Angel ran, just as she had before, only this time she was running to her beasts.
