Good Stepbrother (Love #2) Page 19

“Let’s do this,” he whispered softly. “Wildfire?”

Nodding, I waited for him to lead me into the song. Opening my mouth, I sang my heart out. My eyes slid closed as I sang about the man I loved more than the air I breathed.

“Give me freedom and give me home,

hold me close and let me go,

tie me up and let me loose,

remove your hands, they’re not my noose

love me, leave me, cut me deep

you’re not the only one losing sleep

  all I wanted was you

  all I needed was you

but you’re just a wildfire burning it down

Chase me out say I’m running away

Don’t even give me the time of day

Scream my name and cuss me out

this ain’t what love’s all about

Romance novels don’t tell the story

they just give the sweet stuff all the glory

He’s too damn scared to hold me near

still just a little boy full of fear

  all I wanted was you

  all I needed was you

but you’re just a wildfire burning it down

  You’re driving me crazy

I’m waiting for you to run away

Holding on for the sky to fall some day

You can’t build a home on shaky ground

You’re twisting me up and turning me around

you’re tearing me up and I’m letting you drown

You’re the fire to my earth and I can’t get enough

I love when you call my name and tell me you want it rough

Desire sparking between us and we burn up the bed

maybe we should quit while we’re ahead

  You’re just a wildfire burning it down…

Oooh, just a wildfire burning it down…”

Halfway through the song, he joined me, his husky vocals blending perfectly with mine. The song came to a close and the crowd went wild. Carter kissed me in front of everyone and I blushed hot as he cried, “This right here, ladies and gentlemen, is my little wildfire. Now if you’ll excuse me?”

He swept me into his arms and hauled me out of the bar on his shoulder. I still had a set to do. Apparently Carter had other things on his mind. “I can’t believe you just did that!” I spluttered.

“I feel the need to hear you scream my name, baby. You were so damn sexy up there tonight.” He almost shoved me inside the car, and I couldn’t stop giggling as he slid behind the wheel and started the car. “I need you,” he groaned.

Snorting, I tossed my head. “You have me, but I do hope any further gigs won’t involve you carrying me out of the bar caveman style to fuck me.”

  “I make no promises.”

“Well then, maybe we should get a car with a back seat…”

“No, I’ll just take you home and make love to you all night, in our bed.”

“That sounds fun too…but we really missed out on car sex.”

“Are you saying what I think you’re saying?”

  “Find somewhere to pull over.”

Turning down a side road, he pulled over on the shoulder and parked the car. “How are we doing this?”

“Recline the seat a little and unbutton your pants. I’ll do all the work. I knew I didn’t wear panties tonight for some reason...”

He groaned and slid his seat back before unbuttoning his pants and shifting them down his legs. He was already hard for me. “You’re evil,” he whispered.

“And you love it.” Crawling across the car, I straddled his lap. “Look at that…just enough room,” I murmured before kissing him.

His hands made it under my skirt and before long, he toyed with my heat. I was close already, and the thrill of possibly being caught had me leaned back against the steering wheel and rocking over his fingers. “Don’t stop,” I moaned.

  “Never, baby,” he promised.

I came hard and fast and before I could catch my breath, he pushed me down on his dick. Our lovemaking was hot and fast, rough and perfect. We came again within seconds. I slumped on his lap and he chuckled as he kissed my shoulder.

“I’ll never get tired of that.”

“Good thing,” Giggling, I rolled off his lap and straightened my skirt. “I want you when we get home.”

  “Insatiable.”

  “Only for you.”

  ***

Later that night after another explosive lovemaking session, we lay curled together. Moonlight filtered between the blinds on the window and gilded his beautiful face. He slept softly, and I watched him. My heart ached. I loved him, more than I’d ever loved anyone, and I finally felt like we would be okay. I didn’t know if my career would ever amount to much, but I believed firmly I was where I was supposed to be. It had been a long, long journey to home.

I was home. My heart had a place to settle into, and it felt right. I never wanted to go back to being emotionless. Sex with Carter was beyond just two bodies coming together as sex had been my whole life. With him, it was truly making love. We connected on a deeper plane and in those moments, we ceased to be two souls, but became one.

I wasn’t sure how I’d gotten lucky enough for him to forgive me and still love me after I’d been so evil to him growing up, but I was grateful. Everyone had welcomed me back with open arms, no questions asked, even though I’d been a terrible person.

I wasn’t that girl anymore. I wasn’t Carter’s evil stepsister. I was the woman he loved. He was the man I loved. We would work everything else out. Snuggling into his arms, I closed my eyes and dreamed of a future with him. I saw a white picket fence and blonde babies with hazel eyes. I saw us getting married and fighting and making up. I saw forever.

He saw my humanity and my beauty even in my darkest moments. He loved me. He was my shelter, and he was my home. Our love wasn’t garden variety, it wasn’t simple. It was deep and as limitless as the ocean, as wild and hot as a wildfire, and as steady as a summer breeze. It was all that and more. It was perfect.
