Seducing Sarah - Book 1: The Shutterbug: Jimmy

Page 5

by Ami LeCoeur

As I came out of the restroom, I saw our table was still empty. Where was Jimmy? The girls at the party table were cheering loudly, wooting and yelling at the top of their lungs. I wandered over to see what the big deal was.

Then my eyes widened in shock, and I’m sure my jaw dropped. There was the bachelorette, sitting in a chair… with Jimmy in front of her, giving her the most sensual, erotic lap dance.

What the…? I looked around the table. This was the surprise? Everybody there seemed to think it was totally okay, and they cheered and egged Jimmy on. He straddled the woman, grinding his hips into her again and again. The girl in the chair loved it, opening her thighs wide for him. He took one of her legs in his hands, holding it high while the other hand gripped the back of the chair as he rode her. His face was flushed, his eyes half-closed. As far as he was concerned, it was just the two of them. She gasped and groaned, closing her eyes while throwing back her head.

I was horrified, frozen in place. This wasn’t just having fun. He was totally into what he was doing. Getting himself off on her—an almost married woman. And she was doing the same thing.

Oh, my God! I screamed in my head, wishing I could do anything but stand there, gaping like an idiot. Like someone caught in a time warp, I was unable to move, to speak, to do anything but watch in horror as my stomach twisted in disappointment.

I gave myself a mental shake. Why? How could he do this?

Enveloped in bitterness as the full impact of what I was watching hit me, I gasped loudly in dismay. He looked up in time to catch my eye. But in his glassy-eyed state, there was nothing there, not even shame. He was too far gone. Nothing was going to stop him.

I whirled around, needing to get out of there as fast as I could. I pushed my way through the crowd of still-cheering spectators. They got louder and louder as I grabbed my coat, punching my arms through the sleeves, running for the door. My instincts had been right about this guy all along. How could I have ignored my own warning system?

Just as I reached the exit, I threw one last look over my shoulder. Jimmy’s head snapped back. He let out a loud, long groan as his body began to shudder convulsively. It might have been a long time for me, but I knew exactly what was happening. My mouth hung open. He was worse than I thought.

The crowd let out a loud cheer like he’d done something more amazing than shooting his load in his pants. I opened the door, stumbling out into the cold night air, trying to catch my breath, and sick to my stomach.

  Chapter Thirteen

I stood outside the bar, taking deep breaths to keep myself from hyperventilating. Then I staggered away unsteadily, my feet unable to keep up with my mind’s command to flee.

I needed to put as much distance as possible between myself and the bar. Instead of hailing a cab out front, I hurried to the corner. The last thing I wanted was for Jimmy to come out and find me. If I’m lucky, he’ll need a few minutes to clean himself up, I hoped bitterly.

I wished there was a way to wash my brain so I could forget seeing him grinding against that woman like a rutting animal. And in front of the entire bar, too. What was wrong with him?

What was wrong with me? I frantically hailed a cab, desperate to get away from here, to get home and forget the whole nightmare had ever happened.

Why couldn’t I meet somebody nice? Why did I attract losers, creeps, lechers? Was there a sign on my head that only they could see? “Easy Target?” Damn, this was why I’d stopped dating in the first place.

I pulled my coat tighter around me, shivering more from the agony flooding every part of my body—the same body that had so recently been pressing up against that horrid, horrid man—than from the bitter February cold.

I was so embarrassed. There had to be other people at the bar who saw me there with Jimmy. What did it say about me that my date dry humped some random woman to completion? I shuddered at the memory. It nauseated me.

Jeez, Sarah, you really know how to pick them, don’t you?

This had been such a bad idea altogether. I’d stopped dating for very good reasons, and it wasn’t just because of building my business. I sighed, shaking my head. I’d never been all that good at dating. I should have known better!

I climbed into the cab and managed to keep myself from curling up into a ball in the back seat, but just barely. It was just like high school all over again. I was a joke. No decent man wanted me. When would I learn?

Damn that Jimmy. What a waste of air he was. The worst part was, I’d walked right into it. He had shown me his spots before. Why was I so eager to give him another chance? Was I that desperate? Or just that eager to get hurt?

I shook my head, berating myself. Sarah Jean, you’re supposed to be so smart. Big, bad business woman. Doesn’t take excuses from anybody. Always in control, on top of things, hardworking and talented.

Only this wasn’t business. It was personal. Emotional. And emotions had nothing to do with smarts or talent. I’d spent so much time being alone, that I was just desperate enough to have accepted Jimmy’s excuses for acting like a jerk. And to give him a second chance.

I stifled back a sob. All my earlier memories pressed in behind tonight. I just wanted to give up. I’d never find a man who wasn’t only out for himself. Did they even exist? And if they did, would one ever notice me? All I seemed to find were men who were only interested in themselves. They didn’t want a commitment. Forget working alongside another person to build something strong and lasting. Most of them couldn’t even keep it in their pants, much less dedicate their life to someone or something else.

Men like Gramps were long gone. Men like Jimmy seemed to rule the world. At least, in my world, they were all I’d ever seemed to find.

A single tear rolled down my cheek as I looked out the window, wondering why this had happened. Again. Surely I deserved to be as happy as the people on the street seemed to be. They were laughing, holding hands. One couple stopped and kissed, seemingly for no reason. I held back another sob, wondering why I could never be that person. Why I would never have that relationship, that life.

I leaned forward with my face in my hands. I couldn’t look anymore. It hurt too much. I’d go home to my empty apartment and my empty life. If this was all I’d have to show for my efforts, it should be easier to give it all up. Once and for all. Being alone was better than being disappointed, hurt, and humiliated.

A tiny voice whispered in my ear. Don’t give up. He may still be out there. This time it wasn’t Tammy’s nagging or my bitter self-contempt. It was hope. A tiny little ray of hope.

But how could I continue to hope when it seemed like there was no one out there for me? When things like this happened? I shook my head, my sense of desperation turning to sadness and disillusion. Shhh, I told the voice. Maybe later.

All I could do for the moment was go home, lick my wounds, do my best to forget another disappointment.

  And go to bed.

  Alone.

  One more time.

  About the Author

Like most romance writers, I am a romantic at heart. But I believe romance takes many forms, so in my heart it’s the classic Romanticism of the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

I have many creative interests that include painting, quilting, and glass art, as well as being a writer.

When I’m not traveling, I live on California’s Redwood Coast with my husband and two kitties. We have a wonderful ocean view, and when the fog comes in—as it always does—I’m usually either curled up with a good book, or busy writing, painting, or hovering around a warm kiln making fused glass jewelry.
