“Consider yourself on retainer, young man,” Berea continued, ignoring her daughter. “Diana may not need you as a nemesis, but you’re an honorable person.” She turned her back on the writhing woman on the floor at her feet.
Mayla tried to rise. “Hey, Dad, you can take out a mortgage on the resort and—”
Larry Kenton shook his head from side to side. He joined his wife. He put his arm around Berea. Seeming to hold one another up, they walked away.
