The Fallen Hunter: A Codex Blair Novel Page 18

Yes, I still felt. I was still the impossible demon, the one with the true emotions and not just pale imitations. But I had bottled them up, for the most part. It was past time to do that.

I’d allowed myself to wallow for two years, and I was done with it now.

I was putting myself back together, piece by piece, and healing the demons who had been tainted. Lilith was helping me find myself, bless her. She didn’t have to do that, but she apparently wouldn’t have it any other way.

Well, no, that wasn’t true. She still wanted me to go to Blair and explain myself, but I couldn’t do that.

Not just because I needed to keep her safe.

Because I was too afraid of what she would say when she saw me.

I was a monster, and I didn’t want to see that reflected in her eyes.
