Earth Before Man Page 34

Zak was the House expert on alien culture before the time of man on Earth. If anybody had a right to speculate, it was him and therefore she was willing to accept his prediction.

Accepting that something had to be done to save the original creation of humanity, Waldorf asked,

“So you have the cure. What are you going to do with it? How can you make sure every human on Earth benefits from it?”

Because she had already thought of that, her reply came quickly.

“Not every human on earth will need to get the corrective DNA. As I said, it is not a tomorrow fix but rather a multi-generation repair. For instance, it would not serve any purpose to give it to you.”

She looked at the confused Waldorf and continued,

“It needs to replicate in your children. It is only the future children of the world, those who will reproduce and be accountable for future generations that need the corrective formula. For instance there are only three people in this room that would benefit from it, Pia, Henrik, and Jessika’s unborn child.”

Suddenly Pia sat up and paid attention. She thought she heard Maria say she wanted her to breed with Henrik for the benefit of saving the world. She cast a coal cold eye across the table at poor Henrik who, judging by his silly expression thought it might have been a good idea. At least to Pia, clearly it was not an acceptable suggestion even if it might save the world. Jessika was also not pleased to hear that her unborn child might be altered in some way. That was not what she had in mind when craving a child. Strangely, Kirk sat proud. It was in his mind that his unborn child might be the savior of the world.

Remembering Waldorf’s question about how to get the corrected DNA to the world, Maria said,

  “It’s a good question Waldorf.”

He sat stoic. He knew it was. She explained,

“The corrective code I have programed into our DNA is not like a pathogen. In other words, it is not like a virus that can simply be transmitted through the air. Because it is a multi-generation correction, we don’t have to panic. It is not imperative to race throughout the world and inoculate all the children. I have a plan to get it distributed. However, I would like to get back to the reason I called the meeting. Should we as the House of the Nazarene be the ones that alter human DNA for the sake of preserving what some of us believe, including me is the real intent of the creation?”

It was clear by the discussion at the table that everybody was in favor of returning humans to the original intent of the Creator. A benefit of returning to the original intent was changing or eliminating a clear flaw in tampering with human genetics, the so-called ‘killer gene’. Would it then be possible for humans to settle disputes peacefully? For now, the first to receive the restorative gene program would get it as a swab absorbed through the skin. Later, she would continue to develop a rider-virus affecting those who could pass it on by reproduction. They in turn would pass a stronger gene along to their children and so on. Maria had calculated the complete process would take three hundred years.

She was hoping for a vote of confidence. However, there was another important matter to discuss. Should the world be made aware of her discovery and plan to rehabilitate human genetics? It was debated in length but in the end, certain concerns came to light. The first and most important was that if it became known, how would it affect the already volatile religious organizations of the world? Tampering with God’s creation clearly was an explosive subject. That question alone prompted heated debate at the table. It was feared that such disclosure would turn the world into chaos. Those who could understand it would be against those who would take advantage and cause more chaos. It was eventually decided to keep what was going to happen to humanity a secret.

However, it was not a unanimous decision. When the table had settled down, waiting for what Maria was going to say next, she chanced a furtive look down the table. As expected, Pia was draped in both sternness and defiance. Maria understood Pia’s strong objection to keeping secrets of alien occupation on Earth. She understood that Pia thought full disclosure of human history was best for all. She wanted the chips to fall where they may. Good or bad, the truth should be exposed and from the ashes of a false history, a stronger humanity would eventually emerge. The truth must prevail. It was no different now. For the same reasons, clearly Pia was in favor of full disclosure. Maria made up her mind to have many long discussions with her soon.

Not by conceit or authority, it was decided that the first young male and female to receive the corrective DNA program was to come from the House of the Nazarene. Although both parents certainly hoped so, the facts remained that although Belle and Robert may not eventually marry, they would eventually take a mate and have children. They would be the first to start the human rehabilitation program. Therefore, it came to pass that the second Adam and Eve on Earth would be Belle and Robert. The meeting was adjourned.
