“How come no one told me?” she said incredulously. Max burst out laughing at her facial expression. Her nose had crinkled up and she looked irritated with the world.
“I’m sure once you tell Emily that you’re sorry and that they’re both your best friends, it’ll all be okay,” he assured her.
“Thanks, Maxie,” she said, smiling. She brushed her hair out of her face and went back to doodling on the second sign.
Gabby and Drew entered the kitchen moments later, checking in to see how the signs were going. Drew raised his brows at the idea of putting all those dots on. “Here, we’ll help you,” Drew said, picking up one of the brushes. He pulled up a chair beside Max and began spacing them out just as he’d done. Gabby took up the other side of Max and did the same. He laughed and watched them work for a moment, then went back to dotting the paper.
“I just got off the phone with a few of my friends,” Gabby informed Max. “I figured a sale might be a little more exciting if there were other things to do there, so I got in contact with the school. It’s kinda last minute, but they have some designs for shirts they were planning on releasing soon, so they said they would be happy to set up a booth at the sale. We are donating a majority to the school. It’s the least they could do,” she laughed.
“That’s awesome! People can buy treats, buy shirts, and support the school all at the same time,” he said.
As they talked more about their plans for the coming days, Max grew more and more excited. He couldn’t wait to get out there and get to selling. The four of them finished with their signs an hour later. Max put Izzy to bed, leaving the door open just a crack. He leaned against the wall, unsure if he wanted to do this tonight. The opportunity to talk to the two of them was perfect, but he was reluctant. What if they turned him down? What if they told him they would never be interested in him in that way?
Max forced himself to stand up straight and walk into the living room. “Hey, Drew, Gabby? Can I talk to you guys in the kitchen?” He didn’t want Izzy hearing any of this. She viewed him as more of a big brother than anything else. Overhearing that he and her parents had been fooling around probably wouldn’t make much sense to the little girl.
Once they were all settled in the kitchen, Max drummed his fingers on the table, jittery than he’d been in a long time. Finally, he said, “I don’t know how to say this, so I’m just gonna blurt it out. I know you guys never do this, you’ve never had someone this close to you when you messed around with them, but I’m really starting to feel something for you guys. At first it was just sex stuff, just fun, fooling around, all of that. But being here with you guys every day… It’s made me see you both as more than what I did before. I love spending time with you. I love being around you guys, and Izzy, and all of these people I’ve met since I landed here. I care so much about you guys, and I know it’s more than physical attraction.”
He rambled without looking at either of them, his eyes glued to the marble counter in front of him. Once he’d said his piece, he tentatively looked back up at them. Drew seemed amused by his ramblings, and Gabby watched him carefully, a smile at the corner of her lips.
“We’ve been wanting to talk to you about this for a while, too,” Gabby said. “We’ve never done something like this, you’re right. The people we’re with end up moving on with their life with only the memory of what happened that night. But you live with us. You’re essentially part of our family now. And I don’t think I could separate romantic and sexual feelings from you, Max.”
His heart skipped a beat hearing this. “Really?”
She nodded. “You’re one of the kindest souls I’ve ever met, Max. You care so much about people that you would willingly put yourself in the line of fire to protect them. You go out of your way to help others. You’re a guiding light for Izzy, always steering her in the right direction. You’re a member of a community that didn’t like you at first, but now those women have seen just how special you are. There’s no way in hell we couldn’t fall for someone like that.”
“More than that, I don’t think we’d want to be without someone like that in our house,” Drew added. “I know it’s cheesy to say, but I’m not sure where we’d be without you here. I’d be waist-deep in schoolwork. Gabby would still be stressing over her toy promotion project. Izzy would literally still be here because no one could take her to school,” he chuckled. “My point is, you belong here, Max. You’re with us however long you want. However much you want to be with us.”
Max couldn’t believe his ears. He’d worried himself sick over their answer, and it was more than anything he could have ever imagined. If he were the sentimental type, his eyes would have welled with tears. He moved around the counter and gave them each a hug, holding them tight.
While in Drew’s arms, he buried his head in the man’s neck, breathing deeply. In all of his dating experiences, he’d never fully understand what it meant to feel safe in someone else’s arms, but now, in the kitchen with two people he wanted to be with, Max understood. He pulled away only to look closely at Drew’s face. He examined every fold and line that work as a professor had given him. He examined the scruffiness of his beard, and the softness of his lips. Max leaned in and kissed him, following his instinct without question.
Drew returned the kiss, his hands slipping around Max’s waist to keep him close. Gabby watched as the two embraced, her hand sliding up and down Max’s back. When he broke his kiss with Drew, he turned to Gabby and did the same. Gabby tasted of cupcake lip balm and strawberries from the cake they’d had for dessert.
He ran his fingers through her hair, taking pleasure in the small moan she let out. They parted, and Max thumbed over her cheek. “Would it be inappropriate of me to ask if we can continue this upstairs?”
Gabby laughed softly. She looked at Drew, silently asking what he thought. He nodded. “Let’s go, then,” she said. She stood and walked to the staircase, Drew and Max in tote. She pushed open the bedroom door and turned around, watching as the others entered as well. The stark difference between Drew’s broad build and Max’s swimmer body wasn’t missed. She appreciated them both for very different reasons.
Drew made the first move. He crossed the room and slid his hands down Gabby’s hips. He took hold of the button on her jeans, unbuttoning it before he tugged down the material. Max approached as well, but rather than undressing her, he resumed their kissing from earlier. Gabby closed her eyes and went with it all. She moved her hips and stepped out of the pants then began with her shirt. Before she let herself become the only one without clothing, she began removing Max’s clothes. He too was left only in his underwear.
Once Drew was undressed, they moved to the bed. Gabby pushed Max down onto his back and saddled up beside him, her hands exploring his chest as their tongues moved together. Drew took on the lower half, peppering kisses down his stomach. He eased down Max’s boxer briefs as well, slowly revealing the younger man’s excitement.
Max’s breath caught in his throat when he felt Drew’s mouth around him. It was sudden and sharp, and Gabby smiled with satisfaction when she heard it. She glanced down at Drew as he flicked his tongue over Max’s sensitive head. Max groaned into Gabby’s mouth, his toes curling.
Drew treated him to the same feelings that Max had given him in the kitchen. He took him down into his throat, suction tight around him as he bobbed his head rhythmically. Drew wasn’t one to give so much as he was the one receiving this kind of pleasure, but they’d said it downstairs. Max was special. He was something else entirely – different than all of their other one-night flings – and the least he deserved was something like this.
As Drew continued working his mouth on Max, Max rubbed the thin fabric of Gabby’s panties. He could feel her heat just beneath the lacy material, and the noises she made just from him touching her over the fabric made him more eager to see what she’d make when he slipped underneath them. He slid his hand down the front, pausing to massage her clit.
“Fuc
k,” she whispered, their lips parting as she let out a breath. It was hot on his lips. Max worked his fingers lower, gently pushing inside of her. Gabby responded exactly how he hoped. Her body tensed and then relaxed, accepting his fingers. He worked them in and out, careful to show the sensitive nub just above the attention it deserved.
The three of them moved together like this for a while. Drew pulled away once Max admitted he was close. He had other ideas in mind for the younger man besides just a blowjob. As Gabby and Max continued to touch each other, Drew reached for two separate condoms. He slid one onto himself then worked the second over Max’s cock.
Gabby smiled to herself. She knew what Drew was thinking. They’d talked about it before, but very few of the men they’d been with had ever been interested. The ones who had were always quick to back out, the fear of being emasculated all too much. Max, however, seemed to be the perfect fit for Drew’s plans. Drew guided him up to his knees and turned him around to face Gabby. She moved onto her back in front of him, playfully dragging her foot up his chest. He smiled and leaned down to give her a quick kiss.
Drew lowered himself down to Max’s ear. “Have you ever been in the middle like this before?” he whispered.
“No,” Max admitted. “But I’ve always wanted to be.”
Drew groaned low in his throat. He straightened himself up and carefully lubed himself up. The last thing he wanted to do was hurt Max. While he got himself prepared, Drew watched Max and Gabby play together. Max lowered his lips to her breasts, taking her nipple into his mouth. He flicked his tongue over it, sucking ever so slightly. She moaned and lightly scratched her nails up and down his back. Max, sensing that Drew was ready, took hold of himself and lined up with Gabby.
He went first, sliding inside. Gabby closed her eyes and shivered, two very alert pairs of eyes watching her enjoy the feeling. Max stilled his hips and looked back at Drew. The older man knew he’d have to go a bit slower than what he’d just seen. Max was a lot tighter and needed more time to loosen up. Carefully, Drew worked his way inside of Max. It took a moment, but he slipped past the tight ring of muscles and his hips met Max’s ass.
It took a few minutes to get their bearings, but once they did, Max, Gabby, and Drew moved like they’d planned this from the beginning. Gabby stared up at the men as they gave and took from not just her, but each other. She pushed back as Max pushed forward, and Drew pushed forward as Max pushed back, the noises of their bodies connecting growing louder and louder.
Max had never felt these sensations before. The stimulation inside and outside of his body were almost too much. He floated on cloud nine between the two, a constant electrical current of pleasure vibrating through his head. Drew lowered his head and bit down on his shoulder, the sharp sting of teeth melting into warm, wet kisses up his neck. Max whimpered, embarrassed of the noise. Like predators that had just seen their prey show its weak spot, Drew and Gabby met eyes and smiled.
Gabby began rolling her hips as Max thrust forward. Like the time they’d been together, she dragged her finger across his lips. He opened to accept it, but rather than having him suck, she hooked his cheek, forcing his mouth to stay open. Drew did the same. Max’s eyes opened in a surprised laugh. For a moment, he’d foolishly believed he’d been in control of Gabby, but she and Drew had quickly erased that notion. He was at her mercy as much as he was at Drew’s.
Drew’s other hand gripped his ass, swatting him sharply. The spanks were just shy of painful, and Max loved each and every one of them. He panted, trapped between two equal forces of strength. Max was frozen in place, swimming with an overload of ecstasy unlike any other. That same whimper returned, and this time it stuck around. With each thrust Drew gave, Max let it out. Each time Gabby rutted against him, he cried out. They ate up each grunt and groan he gave, each noise bringing them closer to climax.
“Fuck me,” he pleaded. Hearing the shaking in his own voice was enough to make Max burst. His head fell back as he emptied himself into the condom, more than he ever had before. He wanted to collapse on top of Gabby but Drew held him upright, pounding him mercilessly. Though Max considered giving up, he knew he had to help Gabby reach her peak as well.
Drew bent him over to give him more leverage to work himself into Gabby. Max’s hips moved like a jackhammer, snapping forwards and back rapidly. Gabby gasped at the speed, her fingers struggling to keep up as she worked her clit. Knowing his own body, Max decided to go for his second orgasm. He rarely pulled it off, two in such a short period of time, but if there was ever a better time…
He leaned in and pressed his lips to hers, her mouth heady. “I’m close,” Gabby panted, the rhythm of her fingers steadying. Max’s hips screamed from all the activity but he didn’t dare stop them. He kept his pace and filled Gabby over and over again. Just like that, she let out a silent cry and her body exploded with pleasure.
Drew watched her face contort as she rode out her orgasm. Bot Gabby and Max’s eyes had closed, completely engulfed in all of the motions. Drew was close himself, and only needed a bit more time. He focused on his wife. She glowed, more beautiful than another person in the world. And with Max, someone beautiful in his very own right, Drew couldn’t think of a more appealing sight before him. He angled his hips and hit Max’s prostate repeatedly, practically forcing him to come once more. And when Max did come a second time, his body tightened around Drew’s cock.
That was all he needed. Drew doubled over, hands on either side of the two under him, and pounded his orgasm into Max. He panted and collapsed on top of them. Gabby gasped and shoved him off, laughing as he plopped down beside them. Max slipped off of Gabby as well but snuggled up near her, his head on her chest. He wanted to be close to them after all of this.
Drew pressed his nose into Gabby’s neck, heavy breaths wracking through him. “I love you,” he whispered against her skin. Max smiled to himself. One day he hoped to hear that from the both of them too.
Nineteen
Tomorrow was the big day. Vanessa had given them the shop to use for two more days, and Max couldn’t thank her enough. She was undoubtedly losing money from being closed for three days in the past two weeks, but Max didn’t want it to be a complete loss for her. He spoken with Gabby, Louisa, and Drew and told them to plug Vanessa’s Pastel Bakery whenever they could. The least he could do was generate more revenue to make up for the lack of money coming in on the days he used her kitchen.
Saturday morning was filled with nothing but baking. Max had organized all of the spreadsheets and Drew had headed out to pick the ingredients up. While they waited, Max, Louisa, and Gabby set up the kitchen. Gabby felt right at home in the bakery. Her family normally cooked savory meals, but baking was cooking, but with a little extra challenge. Gabby enjoyed that challenge.
When Drew returned with the items they’d need, the four of them got right down to the cooking. They whipped up all kinds of brownies, cookies, cake pops, pies, and bags of popcorn. Max had never worked so hard in his life. He wanted this to go well more than anything, and because of that, he put in all the effort he had. While they all worked in the kitchen, Izzy sat out front working on packaging with Shelby and Megan.
To everyone’s surprise, the two nannies had offered to help out with packaging and inventory. They were both the DIY queens of the Nannies, and seeing how much Max wanted this, they’d volunteered to pitch in where they could. Max had been in complete disbelief when they’d shown up to the bakery that afternoon.
“Thank you guys so much,” Max said yet again. He looked down at their work. Izzy stacked cookies in a bag and handed them over to Megan so she could tie the bag shut with a pretty pink ribbon. Izzy looked up at him and waved one gloved hand.
“Hi, Maxie! Am I doing a good job?” she asked.
“You’re doing such a good job, honey,” he said, leaning in to give her a one-armed hug. She smiled proudly and went right back to work. Max’s heart swelled at the sight. She’d told him the night before that she wanted him to
stay. She didn’t want him to go away because she had other friends. Not only that, but Izzy proudly told him that he didn’t have to be jealous of her friends at school. She could have more than one best friend. He’d laughed at the tip she parroted back to him.
Now here she was, contributing with the adults in their attempt to keep Max in the country. If he wasn’t so focused on all hustle and bustle of the day before Bake Sale Sunday, he would have cried.
The following day started at six in the morning. Drew, Louisa, and Izzy went to the bakery while Max and Gabby headed down to Henderson Park. They had to set up everything before the sale started at noon. Max unloaded the back of the minivan, carrying a fold out table under each arm. Gabby leaned against the car, phone to her ear.
“You’re going to be here at ten, you said?” There was a moment of silence. “Good. I look forward to seeing you here. Don’t worry, we’ve already designed signs for your booth. Can’t wait to see you, Margaret! You have a good day, too.” Gabby smiled and hung up the phone.
“Was that the school?” Max asked, wiping a bead of sweat from his face. Gabby nodded.
“Yep. They’re going to be here at ten to set up their t-shirt booth. I also spoke with the face painters, Maritza and Tammy, and they said they’ll be here at eleven thirty. They ask that they’re not put next to the t-shirt booth because they don’t want people getting face paint on any of the t-shirts.”
“We can arrange that,” Max said. He still had a few tables to set up, but thankfully Gabby was done making the calls that she needed and could help him put the rest of them up. They carried the chairs, tables, and umbrellas out to the clearing and finished putting the skeleton of the bake sale together. At the moment, it looked more like a restaurant than it did a sale, but once the signs went up, it would look great.
Max dialed Louisa’s number, laughing and hanging up when he saw her van come around the corner. He jogged over to it and greeted the three of them as they climbed out. Izzy had icing on her face, and he grabbed a napkin from his pocket and wiped her face.
