Mandy chattered on until Benjamin lightly nudged her. One look at my glazed over expression and she turned to resume her lively conversation with her sire, toying with his fingers as he watched her, bemused and besotted.

Nick dropped down beside me as the plane began moving. “How you doing, darlin’?”

“Not bad considering,” I said wistfully. “Would be better if I didn’t have to run anymore.”

“You got us,” Elena said, squeezing herself in between me and Mandy, and clapping her hand over my knee. “We’ll take care of you, go where you go. No one is getting their damn hands on you ever again.” She sounded so convinced.

“Elena, you can’t make that kind of promise. Things happen, and apparently, they will keep happening to me. I wouldn’t blame you if you walked away right now.”

“Not a chance.” She shook her head and narrowed her eyes at me. “You’re stuck with me, whether you like it or not. I’m here for you, you know?”

And I did know. I knew something had changed between us, and I hoped we’d get a chance to figure it out.

I leaned back against Nick, propped my knee against Elena, which she held under her elbow, and stared out the window at the starry sky. The night called to me, and I hoped I would get a chance to stretch my wings, explore these powers that our new queen wanted for herself. I hoped that someday, someday soon, my life would be less about running and more about living.

This world held so many wonders, and looking at Nick and Elena, Mandy and Benjamin, Kat, and even Vic, I prayed I’d get a chance to experience those wonders with these people, my people.

  First in the series

A baby is precious, even a half-alien one, and Alyssa Rose will do anything to protect hers.

Twenty-two-year-old Alyssa had an idyllic childhood, growing up among the aliens that saved Earth from a third world war. As assistant to Kayn, Commander of the Szu’Kara, she dreams of a long, fulfilling career and a future of eternal bliss. Dating the gorgeous commander is just the cherry on top of her perfect life.

But a visit to the clinic has Alyssa’s world spinning when she finds out she’s pregnant, which shouldn’t be possible—they’re different species. Commander Kayn couldn’t be prouder, but Alyssa has her doubts, especially when things between them start to change.

When tragedy strikes her family, Alyssa realizes things aren’t what they seem, and her dreams are slipping through her fingers. Torn between what’s real and what’s not, she struggles to understand the secrets that lie beneath the surface. She just never imagined she would find her only chance to uncover the truth through Sebastian, an intensely attractive rebel leader.

Alyssa must make her choice: cling to the remnants of her life with Kayn, or side with the rebels… and Sebastian.

  A tidbit about the author:

Melony Paradise is just a laid-back chick with eccentric tastes who loves writing, reading, music, horror flicks, crafting, and unusual things.

  A few words:

Wow. Just wow. I can’t believe how well this series has done. When I was trying to wrap up this series with a final book, I found I wasn’t ready to let Mercy go. I feel like this introvert-turned-vampire has so much more to do, so many more tales that need to be shared. I hope the next season does just as well as the first, so I can keep writing adventures for Mercy and the Martis clan.

There were so many people involved in helping to get this series started, but two very special people stuck with me through the whole thing. My wonderful, amazing sister, Danielle, eagerly awaited each book and gave me invaluable feedback, not just on the manuscripts, but also the book covers, story details, character details, and so much more. After Danielle finished reading each first draft, my friend and critique partner, Benjamin, would take a pass at the manuscripts and catch all the things Danielle and I might have missed, because editing is a long process that requires many sets of eyes.

So, thank you from the bottom of my heart to Danielle and Benjamin for everything. Also, to everyone who read this series and stuck by me through erratic release times, I want to give you my most profound appreciation. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
