  “What is it, my love?”

“I don’t know how easy our life will be, chere,” he told her. “I’m constantly on the move. I travel across the country as needed, and with our new powers, we have new obligations. You’ve always lived here, on the land, which nurtured you. Will you be happy if we have to visit a strange city, a new town, and you seldom see your beloved forest?”

“It wasn’t easy for me to always be different from my people and have them shun me. Now I know other Draicon will always look upon me with fear and hold themselves back. I will never belong to a pack, and leaving this land will feel like losing a part of my heart. But I can handle it, as long as you’re with me.”

He pulled the shirt over his head and gathered her against him. “You belong to me. We are one with each other. It was meant for both of us to be different and be alone for a while. But no longer. We will always have each other, in our hearts.” He touched her heart. “And our spirits.”

“And the flesh,” she whispered. “You are my missing half, Raphael. The other half of my magick, my strength. Give me your strength now, your courage, and I’ll never again be afraid of what lies beyond.”

They made love slowly, tenderly. As she felt him harden and widen inside her, the shimmering magick of the mating lock overcame her as she absorbed his powers, his emotions. His love and strength, and she gave back to him equally.

Light and darkness became one, as her mother had foreseen.

As she clung to her mate, opening her heart and pouring all her love into him, Raphael tenderly smiled down at her.

She was different and would always stand out from the pack. She was special, like Raphael.

Emily knew she would never walk alone again.
