About the Author
JANE PEART, award-winning novelist and short story writer, grew up in North Carolina and was educated in New England. Although she now lives in northern California, her heart has remained in her native South—its people, its history, and its traditions. A Note from the Author
Folly’s Bride, the fourth book in my Brides of Montclair series is set in Savannah, Georgia, in 1830—a place and time very different from our own. If the circumstances, actions, and emotions of the characters portrayed here seem somewhat extreme, it is well to keep in mind the context in which these events took place.
It has been my sincere effort in writing this series of books to maintain the integrity of the era and the historical authenticity—in other words, the backdrop against which my fictional characters move, act, and react.
Although Folly’s Bride is a work of fiction, as are all the books in this series, many of the situations and events dipicted here are based on facts. Some of my resources have been eye-witness accounts, journals, diaries, and letters written in the periods of history portrayed in the novels. The attitudes of some of the characters, the prejudices or reactions described in this book were formed by the climate of the time, the environment in which they were reared, and their early influences and experiences.
It is my hope, therefore, that you will read and enjoy Sara’s story and understand better the role she plays in the later books of this series.
