Dangerous Games - Gold

As he sat beside her on the bed, Phoenix reminded himself that he would always have to be careful around her, even if they played for the same team. The crackling fire filled the short silence between them for a few moments.

“So, let me get all this straight in my head.”

She shifted to face him, her injured leg extended in front of her. “Okay.”

“All our friends are racing against the clock to stop a massive conspiracy.”

“Or flee the country. Either or,” Penny added as she rocked her head back and forth.

“And we’re stuck here. Alone. With enemies basically closing in around us from all sides.”

“And I can’t run.” She wiggled her leg to demonstrate. To be fair, it was looking a lot better than even the day before.

  “And you can’t run.”

Penny squeezed his arm in the crook of her elbow. “I think that sums it all up nicely, yes.” He kissed the top of her head as she settled against his shoulder. “But I trust everything will work out.”

  He laughed. “No you don’t.”

“Well, no. But I’m trying,” she replied while poking his ribs.

Phoenix’s heart ached it was so full. He didn’t know where this was all going with her, but he was grateful for the opportunity to find out. Theirs was a connection deeper than words could describe.

“You want to burn matches right now, don’t you?” she stated. He felt her cheeks move against his shoulder as she smiled.

  “Maybe…”

  “Well don’t.”

“You don’t tell me what to do,” he replied petulantly. Just as he was about to go check on the fire, she spoke up.

“You did forget one thing,” she said, rocking her head up to look at him.

  “What’s that?”

Her expression remained passive and eerily calm. “I could be a double-agent.”

“I better get my fill before you flip to the dark side then.” She let out a playful squeal as he buried his face in the crook of her neck, squeezing her with a hug she pretended to resist. They fell into bed together as if they didn’t have a care in the world.

  Thank you for reading!

I hope you enjoyed the third book in The Dangerous Games Series as much as the first and second! If you have a minute, it would be a huge help if you could leave me a review. Even something as easy as, “This book was such a good read!” would be great. Review on all major retailers!

  Author’s notes and ramblings

Not gonna lie. This was the most difficult book I’ve ever written and I have no idea why!

Maybe it was the strong personalities. Penny refused to do the things I’d originally planned for her. Like, flat out resisted my plotting. She was quite cagey when I pressed her for more guidance as well, the little brat.

Maybe a book with nearly non-stop action is just genuinely harder to write.

Maybe, like Penny and Phoenix’s relationship, good things are difficult and worth struggling for.

Whatever reason, I can guarantee I’ve put more sweat and tears and sleepless nights into the book you just read than any other. I genuinely hope you enjoyed it, cause I’m pretty proud.

The story is all tied up in the next book, PLATINUM. While you might not be too sure about them right now, I think Hunter and Hadley are the right couple to bring us to the thrilling conclusion.

Thank you for reading, from the bottom of my heart.
