He looked at me as if I should already know the answer.

“Well you’re here for the murder of Melanie Scott and the assault of your husband in a hotel parking lot.”

I sat there with my neck sticking out and my mouth wide open. Before I could gather my thoughts, he hit me with another blow and said, “We found Melanie’s watch in your purse, the gun that you shot her in the head with and the knife you used to slit her throat.”

“This is impossible! I didn’t have shit to do with this! You’re trying to pen this shit on me!”

He shook his head and pulled out photos of me walking around Melanie’s house. I was in a state of shock and disbelief. I shook my head as if I was trying to shake off what I was seeing and hearing. He then told me that my prints were on the knife and the gun. I didn’t believe shit that he was saying. I was a lawyer and I knew all the little shady ass tactics that cops used. I sat back in my seat and said, “I’m done talking to you. When I get legal representation, then maybe I’ll listen to you.”

I could tell he was irritated but he said okay and walked out the room. As soon as he left, I buried my face in my hands and began crying uncontrollably.

  “Why me,” I cried out.

‘Why would God put me through this?’ I thought to myself. My heart was hurting so bad, I squeezed my breast. It was like someone took a bomb and dropped it right in my lap. A cop walked in the room minutes later and escorted me out. When we walked outside, for some reason, I thought I was free until they threw me in the back of this police truck. The space was so small and as soon as he closed the doors, everything went pitch black. There were no windows and I didn’t know what was going to happen next. I felt like a caged animal inside. It was crazy because I was now in the same position that I put the bad people in. I then began to feel sorry for myself. The ride was scary. There were bumps and crazy turns. There were times when I felt like the truck was going to tip over. The truck suddenly stopped I heard the cop get out of the car. He opened the door and helped me out and walked me into another jail.

I found myself sitting in another tank. It was a lot cleaner than the tank at the other jail. When I found a spot that looked descent, I sat down. The room was freezing cold and I didn’t have a jacket. A cop walked in and yelled, “Okay its feeding time!” as she slid the box in the middle of the tank.

All of the women ran to the box like dogs and grabbed a sandwich. I didn’t budge. I wasn’t in the mood to eat and whatever was in the box, I didn’t want it. After the cop left, this pregnant woman walked over to me and handed me a cold sandwich, an oatmeal cookie and an apple juice and then she walked back to the other side of the room. She looked like she was about to have her baby at any moment. ‘What the hell could she have possibly done?’ I thought to myself.

“Thanks,” I smiled as I took the food and sat it next to me.

The sandwich only had bologna on it. There wasn’t even any cheese on it. Over the next few hours, I went to three or four different holding tanks. Some were cold, some were stinky and some were just plain nasty. I felt like someone was playing a horrible prank on me. I was able to see the judge, but I wasn’t able to make bond. I was so numb about it; I just stood there in front of the judge like statue. The only time I spoke is when I was saying yes or no. I was then taken out of the court room. I felt like trash, as I stood there butt naked in front of a bunch of women. When I didn’t think I could feel any lower than what I was already feeling, something else happened. We stood there in a line trying to cover our ass pussy with our hands. One woman raised her hand and said “I have a tampon in.”

The guard looked at the woman and told her to throw it in the trash that was in front of us. The lady squat and pulled the tampon out. I gagged when I saw the blood on it. She walked to the trash and threw it away and got back in line. We were then forced to bend over and spread our ass cheeks and cough. I wanted to scream so badly, but I held my tears back and did whatever I was told to do. After we were done being humiliated, we were given orange jumpsuits to wear. When we finally made it to our cell, I laid on down on the bottom bunk bed and closed my eyes. As crazy as it was, I was relieved to be lying down in a real cell instead of on the floor of a holding tank.

The next morning, we woke up early in the morning for breakfast but I still didn’t eat anything. I had this false hope that I was going to be set free. My fear was seeing someone in here that I prosecuted. When I was able to get to a phone I called Draya. I was happy that she accepted the collect call. When they put my call through, I was relieved to hear her voice

“How are you doing in there?” she asked with a shaky voice.

My bottom lip started to tremble and I thought I was going to break down.

“I don’t know Draya. They denied me bail so I will be in here until I can get a lawyer and a court date.”

She stayed silent for a second and said, “I went back to hospital and found Darius. I told him what happened and gave him your information. He said he would be up there to see you.”

I was thankful for Draya because without her, I wasn’t sure what I would do. She was my only connect on the outside. When we got off the phone, I was sent back to my cell. Over the next two days, I tried to adjust to everything. I knew I wasn’t getting out so I didn’t have much of a choice. I even started eating the food and got use to showering naked with a bunch of women.

  Chapter 29

While I was writing Darius a love letter, the guard came into my cell and said, “Moore, you have a visitor.”

When I walked to the glass window, I was a little stunned to see Carl sitting there. I wanted to walk away but a part of me wanted to hear what he had to say, so I sat down. I picked the phone up with caution and stared at him. I wanted him to see it in my eyes how much I hated him. He smiled at me as if we were at a damn party or something. He didn’t even look disturbed at all.

“What are you doing here?” I asked with an attitude.

I wanted to reach through the glass and slap that smirk right off of his fucking face.

“Tiff, I just came down here to see how you’re doing although you tried to run my man over. You know he’s very upset with you about that.”

He sounded like a woman. The shit was crazy.

“You son of a bitch, you will pay for what you’ve done.”

He laughed and then said, “Tiff, what are you going to do about it you are in jail for murder. You’ll either get the death penalty or life without parole, thanks to me.”

I squint my eyes and said, “What?”

His eyes turned cold and he said, “Well since you or that bitch Melanie couldn’t keep your hands off of my men, I had to take matters into my own hands. Yea that’s right.”

I stared at him with my mouth open.

“Tiff don’t look at me like that. You’re the reason she’s dead. If you wouldn’t have told me that she was calling my man, then I wouldn’t be forced to kill her.”

He went on to tell me that he gave Michael the gun to give to me and how my prints ended up on the knife. It then hit me that my prints got on the knife that he gave me to cut my food when I was at his house during the time that I stayed over there when Michael and I got into it. What Carl told me sent chills down my spine. My heart must’ve stopped because I couldn’t catch my breath. Carl just sat there with this big grin on his face as if he just told me some good news. I never knew evil until I looked into his eyes. It was like I was looking at satin himself. This man strategically set me up. He had been making my life a living hell for months now, when all he could’ve done was waited for Michael to leave me but I guess that was too long for him. Before I knew it I was standing on top of the chair and I was beating on the glass with the phone.

“You son of a bitch,” I yelled. “You did this to me! I’m going to kill you!”

I started banging on the glass. I was trying so hard to break it so that I could get my hands on him. I wanted to dig my nails into his eyeballs and pull them out. I was jumpin
g up and down like a wild monkey. Carl laughed hysterically as if I was putting on some kind of show. The guards finally came and pulled me down from the chair.

“He’s the reason I’m in here! He killed Melanie Scott! He set me up!”

The guards ignored me and drug me back to my cell. It was crazy how my life unfolded in a fucked up way. The people that I thought I knew, I really didn’t know and the ones that I thought I could trust turned their backs on me. I went from being a successful lawyer with the perfect husband to being convicted of murder. It was amazing how fucked up people could really be. Well I knew that but I never thought that there would be so much shady shit going on in my circle. You only hear about this type of shit in movies or books, not real life. It was cool though because I knew that this shit wasn’t going to break me because I was going to beat my case and as soon as I was free, all hell was going to break loose and somebody was going to pay!
