“You throw her again, I’ll skin you alive and leave you for the flies,” Cade said. “Put her down real careful. Now.”

Pete began to ignore the warning but then hesitated and set Addison on her feet then gave her a hard shove. She stumbled toward Cade, catching him around the waist and hugging him before breaking into loud, glass-shattering wails. “I don’t want to die. I’m too young to die.” After that it was just a loud, ear-piercing screech of sound that echoed off the metal walls and went on and on.

“Ramsey, shut that bitch up,” Baume screamed, his face red with anger.

Cade shot him a dagger-life stare, then looked down, whispering to Addison.

Baume and Pete covered their ears and backed toward the door.

“We’re going to need more duct tape, boss,” Pete said as he followed Earl out the door, slamming it behind them.

Addison counted to ten as she continued to wail, gradually lowering the volume until it was just whimpering. She looked up at Cade and he grinned at her.

Next to them Jenna held up the key she had just lifted from Baume’s pocket. “It was in his front pocket. The man wears his jeans way too tight.” Grinning, she moved behind Jackson and unlocked the chains on his wrists then slid around him and onto her knees before unlocking the chains on his ankles. Patting his leg, she looked up at him and grinned.

Jackson pulled her to her feet then watched as she moved to Cade and unlocked the chains on his wrists and ankles.

“You and Limo okay, baby?” Cade covered Addison’s belly with his large hand. “Any pain?”

“Just some bruises and scrapes. But we’re okay.” Her tummy growled and she frowned. “Baume kept me from getting my waffles. Destroy him, Cade.”

Next to them Jackson chuckled then looked at Cade. “We need to figure out how to protect these two while we take care of Baume and his men.”

“He’s probably calling them right now,” Cade told him. “We know there’s at least two more of them. So at least four.”

“Yeah.” Jackson looked around. “Damn, there’s nothing here.”

Jenna held up a pocket knife before she looked at Addison and she held up the pocket knife she had taken from the other man’s pocket. They smiled at each other.

“Will these help?” Jenna asked Jackson and Cade.

“Angel, I don’t even want to know who taught you to do that.”

Nodding, Jenna turned to Addison. “How’d they catch you?”

“Baume has a dog. The dang thing must have warned him because the next thing I knew they were both chasing me. I couldn’t run very fast without shoes.”

Cade hugged her. “It’s okay, baby. At least we’re not in chains and we each have a knife. That gives us a big advantage.”

“He’ll try to use the two of you to control us.”

Addison looked around. “There’s only one way to go then,” she said, pointing up.

“I’m not climbing up there,” Jenna said. “No way.”

“It’s not that high and I’ll help you.” Addison said. “There’s a little platform in the corner. I think it was meant for some kind of machine or something, but we can hide there.”

Jenna looked at the pipe and the distance between the pipe and the corner. “How would we get over there?”

“See those little ledges? You can hold onto the top one and walk along the lower one. Then, I’ll pull you up onto the platform.”

“Huh-uh, no way.” Jenna backed away.

Jackson hugged Jenna. “I know you’re scared, but you can’t stay down here with me. I’ll be worrying about one of them getting to you when I should be fighting.”

Looking at him, she saw the concern in his eyes and nodded her head. “Okay, but you owe me big time, and if you let him hurt you I’m really going to be mad.”

“Okay, let’s get the two of you up there.”

At the wall, Cade kissed Addison then gave her a boost and watched as she pulled herself up the pipe like a circus performer. Once she reached the top, she stepped to the side along the ledge and stopped then looked down at Jenna. “Okay, now you.”

Jackson kissed Jenna then cupped his hands and boosted her up as high as he could. He stood beneath her, ready to catch her if she fell. Once he saw her put her foot on the ledge, he breathed a sigh of relief and moved back so he could watch her progress toward Addison and the corner.

“I’m going to listen for Baume,” Cade told him as he moved backward, his eyes on Addison as she moved toward the platform. Once she reached it, she grasped the edge and easily lifted herself up onto it. She knelt and turned and he saw her say something to Jenna. Standing by the door, he saw Jenna look down at Jackson and freeze for a moment before Addison drew her eyes back to her. A few seconds later, Addison grabbed Jenna’s hands and pulled her up on her belly on the platform. Jenna kicked her legs and wiggled forward out of sight before she appeared next to Addison on her knees. They both waved then moved back into the shadows.

Jackson turned and silently moved toward Cade. The look in Cade’s eyes told him men were going to die today, and he nodded in agreement.

“They planned to rape our women in front of us,” Jackson said. “You and I both know they would have killed them after they were done with them.”

“That bastard threw Addison. He could have hurt her. She might still lose our baby.”

“Then we’re in agreement. If they fight, they die.”

“Yes.” Cade looked at the big door. Seeing a locking pin hanging on a chain by the frame, he shoved it into the slot then walked to the other side and secured it. “Now they can only come in through that door.”

“Excellent. Like shooting fish in a barrel.”

“If there’s four, I’ll take the second and fourth. If six, I’ll take the sixth,” Jackson said.

“Agreed. I’ll take first, third, and fifth.”

“Baume will be the last to enter because he’s a coward and he knows by now we have the key and the knives. They’ll be armed.”

“Don’t hesitate to use his men as a shield.”

They took up a post on either side of the door and waited. A few minutes later they heard the sound of a vehicle pulling up and two doors slamming. Jackson held up four fingers and smiled. Cade nodded as they heard a key slide into the lock on the door and the knob turned. The barrel of a rifle entered, followed by a man’s head. Cade grabbed the gun with one hand and the man with the other and jerked him toward him. On the other side of the door, Jackson did the same. A split second later, both men were on the floor and Jackson and Cade had two more weapons.

Without hesitation, Jackson dived out the door in one direction and Cade dived out the door in the other. Bullets sprayed above their heads as they ran to the corners of the building.

Jackson surveyed the area he was in and saw a stack of wood about fifteen feet from his position. Checking the magazine in the weapon, he decided he could spend a few bullets then heard Cade firing and knew his brother had his back. He took off for the wood pile, ducking behind it as he heard a bullet splat into the wood behind him.

He twisted around and waited until Cade fired again before making a move into the woods behind him. As Cade kept them busy, Jackson moved into position until he saw Baume and Pete in front of him with their backs to him.

“Baume, I’ve got you in my sights,” he yelled. “Drop your weapon and put your hands on top of your head.”

“Fuck you, Ramsey,” Baume yelled as he turned and brought his weapon up.

Jackson fired, aiming at Baume’s shoulder and hoping he would drop his weapon. Instead, Baume moved his gun to his other hand and fired again. Jackson’s next bullet caught Baume in the chest, killing him.

“I surrender,” Pete yelled, dropping his gun then raising his hands above his head. “Don’t shoot.”

Cade walked up behind him and used the butt of his rifle on the back of Pete’s head. Looking at Jackson, he shrugged. “I don’t have any cuffs on me.” Cade searched Pete
and felt his phone in his pocket. He pulled it out and held it up. “I’d say we’re at Earl Baume’s cabin at Cypress Springs. I’m going to call Thor and he can get the law out here to take out the trash.

“I’ll get Jenna and Addison down.”

  * * * *

Four hours later Jackson slid into bed next to Jenna. He lifted her hand and examined the splint on her swollen wrist. “Doc said he’ll replace this with a cast in a couple days.”

“I can’t believe I tripped like that. Not after climbing up to that platform and then back down without falling, and then I trip on a rock in the driveway and break my wrist.”

“Angel, I’m just happy you’re okay.” He kissed her swollen fingers then rubbed his hand over her ass and slid one finger up then back down the crack that separated her soft butt cheeks. “Cade was really relieved when Doc said Addison just needs to rest for the next three weeks.” He chuckled. “You think she got enough waffles at dinner?”

Laughing, Jenna snuggled up to his side and slid one leg over his thigh. “I don’t know. She only ate six. Jane said she’s going to make sure there are always waffles in the freezer so Addison can have them in the middle of the night if she wants them.”

“I was okay with the waffles. I was even okay with the strawberry ice cream. But when she topped them with the spinach I about lost my dinner. I don’t know how Cade kept from gagging.”

“Didn’t you see him take that bite? I swear he liked it.”

“What? Are you sure he took a bite?”

“Yes. He took a bite and he looked like he wanted another one.” Jenna brushed her lips over Jackson’s lips then laughed. “Wouldn’t it be funny if big, bad Dom Cade has a sympathetic pregnancy with Addison?”

  “What’s that mean?

Sitting up, Jenna pushed him onto his back then slid onto his chest and looked down at him, giving him little pecking kisses. “You know. It’s when the father has all or some of the same symptoms of the mother. Food cravings, morning sickness, the need to take naps. Thinks like that.”

“No kidding?” Jackson muttered, his voice strangely full of speculation and a gleeful glint in his eyes. “We’ll have to keep an eye on him and make sure he’s okay.”

“You’re not going to give him a hard time are you?”

“Who? Me? Do something like that to my big brother?” Laughing, Jackson rolled Jenna onto her back before he nuzzled her neck, and then he whispered, “I love you, angel. Promise me you’ll never leave me.”

“Oh, Jackson. I’ve loved you just about all my life,” Jenna said. “If you even tried to send me away now, I wouldn’t go. Besides, isn’t that your number one rule—anything on this land with your brand belongs to you?”

  “You bet, angel. For life.”

  Epilogue

Jenna had just returned two cartons of ice cream to the freezer when she heard footsteps coming from the hallway leading to the kitchen. Glancing at the entry door, she hurried into the pantry where Addison was hunting for a can of spinach. She managed to close the door behind her just as she heard someone enter the kitchen. A moment later she heard the water at the sink running. Jenna signaled Addison to be quiet then pressed her ear to the door. Addison squeezed in next to her then they heard Cassie screech with surprise and Logan said, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you.”

“That’s okay, Logan. I just didn’t realize you were there,” Cassie said.

“So, Cassie, I was thinking about your problem,” Logan said.

Jenna grinned at Addison then gave her a thumbs-up.

“What makes you think I have a problem, Logan?”

“You and Jenna and Addison signed up for the amateur talent show at the club. Now, Jenna has a broken wrist and the doctor has ordered Addison to rest for the next three weeks. Are you going to perform by yourself now?”

“I haven’t really thought about it,” Cassie said.

“What were the three of you going to do?” Logan asked.

After a short silence, Luc said, “Cassandra, Logan asked you a question.”

Jenna winked at Addison then silently slapped her own ass as she heard Cassie say, “We talked about dancing but we hadn’t really decided yet, Sir,” followed by a surprised gasp from Cassie and the sound of feet sliding across the kitchen floor.

“You can still dance. With me and Luc. What do you say, Luc? You want to tango with Cassie at Club Mystique?”

  “No,” Luc said.

A few seconds later, Jenna heard Cassie say, “Logan, up,” followed by a chuckle from Logan and then Cassie said, “Please, Sir, I would like to stand up.”

“Better, sugar,” Logan said, followed by the sound of more dancing and then another gasp from Cassie.

Jenna made a dancing motion, mouthed “Luc” and then made hugging and kissing motions and a big smile. Addison smiled back and made an “okay” sign with her thumb and finger.

“I expect you in the playroom at nine,” Luc said, followed by his footsteps as he left the kitchen.

“We’re going to win, sugar,” Logan said.

  “Luc’s not interested, Logan.”

Frowning, Jenna mouthed “Luc’s a meanie.”

“He’s interested,” Logan said. “If he wasn’t he wouldn’t be thinking about spanking your ass tonight.”

“Logan, I like you, and I would like to play with you sometime, but I won’t get involved with you.”

Jenna shook her head and grabbed Addison’s hand when she reached for the doorknob.

“I don’t know who hurt you, sugar, but we’re going to love you so much that you won’t ever want to leave us.”

“I don’t want you to get hurt, Logan.”

“I’ll see you at nine,” Jenna heard Logan say, followed by a kissing sound and then Logan’s footsteps as he left the kitchen, whistling.

Jenna opened the pantry door and Cassie jumped then screamed, one hand over her heart, her eyes wide with fright.

“What the hell is it with you people always sneaking up on a person?” Cassie asked as Jenna and Addison walked out of the pantry. “What were you two doing in there?”

“Addison was looking for a can of spinach,” Jenna said.

“We’re out,” Addison said then giggled. “Of spinach, and the closet.”

“So, Luc’s decided tonight’s the night to discipline you for the ice cream attack,” Jenna said. “Dang. That was fun even though we had to clean up the mess.”

“Yeah. I probably should be worried about what the dominating duo have planned but no matter what they do it will have been worth it,” Cassie said. “Even though I’ve only known Luc a few days, for some reason it was really satisfying to see him tied up and gagged. Maybe I’m a Domme rather than a sub.”

“No,” Addison said, “you’re not a Domme—Luc’s just annoying sometimes.”

Addison and Jenna laughed then high-fived Cassie. Jenna glanced at the clock and smiled. “I’ve got to go. I’m meeting Jackson in the gym.”

Addison laughed then said, “Remember, in this house a sub gets a swat for every minute she keeps her Dom waiting.”

Jenna waved at Addison and Cassie as she left the kitchen then slowly made her way to the gym. She leaned against the wall next to the door and counted off another five minutes. Addison’s brochure said a sub should give her Dom a treat every now and then and she knew Jackson was going to enjoy the treat she was about to give him.

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I’m Mardi Maxwell and I’m an avid reader of romance, especially erotic romance, so it just made sense for me to write what I love to read. I began writing short stories in high school but it wasn’t until college that I discovered how much I truly enjoy the writing process—researching an idea, creating an imaginary setting, populating it with characters and then telling their story.

Like most people, life keeps me busy, but I write every day. If I’m not writing, I’m reading or plotting my next b
ook, or the next scene in the book I’m working on. The romances I enjoy the most have laughter, tears, hot lovers who overcome obstacles to be together, scorching-hot sex scenes, and happy endings. The only book I’ll read where one of the main characters dies is a vampire novel where they get to come back for an eternal happy ending.

When I’m not writing I enjoy gardening (unsuccessfully but persistently, lol), spending time with my family and friends, traveling, and dreaming about my next book.
