The Vanished
Page 26
In a fractured Britain, the Genetic Enhancement Ministry have taken control. Parents buy designer babies and those with genetic faults are labelled Blemished and shunned from society.
Margaret Murgatroyd failed in her mission to capture three Blemished escapees. She fears the Ministry will demote her to full-time teacher and remove her Ministry rights. But Margaret is surprised as she’s given a new opportunity with new responsibilities, the only problem are old memories it brings up. Margaret remembers herself as a young girl, Maggie Powell, and the mistakes she made as a young lab technician working at the Genetic Enhancement Ministry as it first embarked on its take-over of Britain. She remembers the mistakes she made, the people who betrayed her and the way it shaped her as a woman.
The Fractured is the first part of a spin off series based on The Blemished, which will focus on some of the secondary characters and their stories. Part two follows the life of Margaret as she remembers the heart-breaking events of her past. Available on Amazon
Praise for The Blemished:
“Wow, I was so delightfully surprised with this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story is original, fresh, and entertaining. The characters are so well written, and you really get to feel like you know them. I loved Mina. I loved her strength and her determination.” Always YA at Heart - www.alwaysyaatheart.blogspot.com
“Check out The Blemished by Sarah Dalton if you are looking for a fast-paced dystopian adventure!” Apocalypse Reads - http://apocalypsereads.blogspot.com/
“It is rare for YA novels to deal so directly and so successfully with feminist issues, and this one does it brilliantly. Girls who pick this terrific novel up will be looking for their usual dystopian fare, and they will certainly get it in spadefuls: danger, excitement, adventure, overcoming the odds, romance, racing hearts and some fantastic surprises about who can be trusted and who can’t.
I love it! Dalton has shown striking skill in exposing young people to these ideas in an accessible and exciting way. Like the best books that educate, they won’t even know it’s happening.” Emma Williams – author of World Enough and Time
“I took my time reading the book in between others but was surprised to find myself looking for moments where I could get back to it. I’m very much looking forward to the next book. The Blemished was both fun and made me think about how much we value beauty. Where is all this emphasis on beauty leading us to?” One Day YA - http://www.oneadayya.blogspot.co.uk/
“I bought The Blemished on Kindle and didn’t turn my light off till 1.30am this morning because I couldn’t put it down! This is a great YA dystopian novel which ranks up there with Divergent and The Hunger Games.” Shalini Boland – author of Outside
“What an awesome debut from Sarah Dalton! Oh. My. Gosh.
I don’t typically read a lot of dystopian novels because most of the time I just can’t buy into the world that I’ve just walked into. But let me tell you that this novel was very different! The world of the GEMs and the Blemished became so real to me, and the characters…I half expected to run into them walking down a street somewhere!” Dejana Vuletic – author of the Keeper of Light series
