“Oh God!” she thought. She felt lust and desire overtaking her. Just then she heard a knock at the door. It was dark outside and she could not see who it was but guessed it must be David.
She opened the door. He stood outside with a bottle of wine and two glasses.
“I have a very good bottle of wine here.” He said dramatically.
“And I wanted to say thank you, and ask if you would like to share it with me.”
Ivanna felt her knees go weak with wanting for him. She tried to appear relaxed and casual.
“Oh that is very kind of you.” She said, and opened the door to let him in.
David walked inside. They sat together on the sofa and Ivanna poured the wine.
“Mmm, this is lovely.” She put her glass on the table.
She went through her vinyl, asking him what music he liked.
“Anything great and wonderful.” He said, looking at her flirtatiously.
He asked her about the different people living in the village and she told him all the local gossip. When she mentioned Mike and Josephine, he seemed to startle.
“But of course, you know Josephine don’t you?” she said.
He looked somewhat ashamed, and said. “Yes, I know Josephine, from acting.”
She decided to change the subject and then realised they had finished the bottle of wine.
“Shall we have another.”?
“Absolutely.” Said David.
They went outside to look at the night sky. Before she knew what was happening David was holding her in his arms and kissing her lips, her neck, her shoulders, cradling her breasts. She felt light-headed from the wine, and looked up at the stars, feeling like she was dreaming.
“Mmmm” she said, and started to kiss him back, allowing him to undress her slowly.
Soon, they lay together naked, under the stars, feeling the warm summer breeze blowing under the night sky. His touch was soft and tender, though he spoke so dirtily to her, turning her on, and thrusting himself inside her.
“Oh I love fucking you” he said as he pushed himself inside her, holing her buttocks, squeezing her against him. She could feel herself coming. She groaned.
“Oh.” “Oh” “Oh my God. Yes!”
He kept thrusting himself inside her, rubbing her tits as he pushed and pulled her toward him.
They made love under the stars for hours that night, and fell asleep in the moonlight. Ivanna could hear the vinyl on the record player going round and round, having finished. She decided to leave it.
Chapter 5
In the weeks that followed David and Ivanna never spoke again about what had happened that night under the stars. They spent time together, and became close friends, but never kissed or touched.
There was still undoubtedly a strong sexual spark between them though it was as if they were both tempted by it and tried to ignore it at the same time.
Ivanna had also decided to try and keep her distance. She had noticed that Josephine and David seemed very close. Too close.
Josephine spent lots of time at David’s when they claimed to be helping each other recite lines for an upcoming movie they were in together.
“Ugh! She makes me sick!’ said Ivanna to Sylvia over coffee one day. They sat in Sylvia’s garden sipping espresso.
“A lovely husband like Mike, and doing the dirty on him right under his nose!”
Sylvia nodded and Ivanna continued.
“And she is such a bitch! She doesn’t even smile at me when I see her.”
“Cow” said Sylvia.
“Totally” Ivanna agreed. “Poor Mike.”
In the bar that night Jean, Valerie, Sylvia, David, Mike, Jospehine and Ivanna all sat discussing the art exhibition that was currently on display in ‘Fino Porto’, Ivanna’s father’s hotel.
“So surrealist!” Jean exclaimed.
“Yes but that is what they like here.” Said Ivanna, trying to ignore the lustful glances Josephine was giving David. David seemed oblivious to them.
“You know this is the surreal dream with live here.” She said. “The good old Portofino Saga!”
They all laughed, including David. Josephine seemed sulky and moody however.
Ivanna grew annoyed with the sullen atmosphere, and if Josephine had not been a good friend of Jean and Valerie’s, she would have said something. Ivanna was not one for biting her tongue or for putting up with other people’s moods. She had worked too hard to pull herself out of dark places to put up with anyone else being melodramatic. Ivanna decided to go home. As she walked under the moonlight that night, the breeze flowing through the olive groves, she realised she did feel sad. She did feel hurt. Why did she keep attracting men who treated her badly? Although Josephine and David were hiding their relationship because of Mike, it had still been pretty obvious to her what they had been up to. He had not even mentioned the magical night they had spent together to her. Mind you, she hadn’t either. Best forgotten and left in the past, she thought to herself sadly. Though she knew that she really wanted to be with him, and it had broken her heart to discover that he was with Josephine. She crawled in to bed that night feeling tired and alone. She drifted into an unsettled sleep.
Chapter 6
The moonlight shone onto Ivanna’s naked body as the midnight cricket song chirped through the windows. She heard a knock at the door. It took her a while to realise she was not dreaming and she looked over to the digital clock by her bedside 01.00 am – the red digits flashed.
“Who? What?” she thought to herself.
“Hello?” she whispered questioningly to the presence outside the door.
“Ivanna, it’s David, sorry it is so late……”his voice trailed off. Ivanna opened the door, hugging her silk dressing gown against her naked body.
“David. Is everything ok? Has there been a burst pipe or something?” she asked sleepily.
“No. Um. Uh. It is just you left early, and I wanted to see you were alright.”
“Yes David, I’m fine.” She said trying to hide the irritation in her voice.
“Ok, I’m sorry” he looked hurt.
“Night.” She said, and closed the door. As soon as she had, she regretted it. She opened it again while he was just turning away.
“Do you want to come in?” she said.
“Is that alright?”
Ivanna held open the door, looking at David in a stern, and questioningly way.
They stood opposite each other; Ivanna let her silk dressing gown open, revealing her luscious naked body, glistening in the moonlight. David said nothing but let his eyes fall down to her breasts. She let him enjoy what he was seeing for a moment and then wrapped the dressing gown around her.
“Do you want a drink?” she asked as she headed toward the fridge.
He stopped her.
“Ivanna.” He said as he stroked her hair away from her face.
She looked away.
Suddenly they fell into impassioned embrace, kissing each other, hungrily, caressing each other with their hands, lips, circling each other’s tongues, wild with desire.
Ivanna pulled away, trying to stop the passion she was feeling.
“David. Look. About this. About us. About the other night. About Josephine.”
David looked ashamed and embarrassed.
“Look” Ivanna continued. “I am not ok with this being sometimes, and then you being with another woman, under my nose. I know we hardly know each other but come on.” She said.
“Ivanna, I like you. The thing with Josephine…..Look, me and Josephine have known each other for years. Last time I saw her, things just happened, and I didn’t even know she was married. It was never serious for me anyway. Seeing her here, things just happened again. But I like Mike, and I have wanted to break things off with her ever since I met him. I told her last night it was over between us. She is not happy, but I promise, it is over.”
Ivanna looked at him as she felt relief wash over her.
“I really like you Ivanna,” sa
id David softly as he stroked her hair.
Feeling overwhelmed Ivanna went over to the fridge and found two wine glasses. She poured them both a glass and looked at David. Neither of them said anything. She stayed standing by the fridge looking at him on the sofa.
“Look I don’t want to complicate your life. I am really grateful to you for letting me stay here and if you want I can stay out of your hair or if you want we can just see how this thing between us goes.” He paused.
Ivanna didn’t say anything.
He stood up from the sofa walked over to where she was standing by the fridge.
“So, are you going to give me any of that wine you poured me?” he asked seductively.
Ivanna, distracted and lost in thought, suddenly picked up his glass and gave it to him with a lustful look in her eyes.
As soon as they had put their glasses down on the table by the sofa they could resist it no longer. Her dressing gown slid easily to the floor and on seeing her naked breasts he sucked hungrily on her nipples, biting her, circling her erect nipples with his tongue, stroking her belly. Slowly she began unbuttoning his jeans, and she pulled out his throbbing hard penis, seeming to pulse with desire for her. She began sucking him before slowly putting him inside her.
They made love for hours, on the sofa, moving to the bed, on the kitchen surfaces.
The hot Italian sun began to rise and the birds began their birdsong. Still they caressed each other’s bodies, kissing, stroking, and sucking each other’s lips, cradling each other in their arms.
“Oh my God, it is daylight.” Said Ivanna.
“We have been making love all night!”
“I know, what a lovely way to spend an evening.” Said David as he nibbled on her ear.
They lay in each other’s arms looking out over the balcony, feeling the warmth of love.
They decided to walk along the beach together in the early morning sun, the beach where they had first decided to live together.
David took Ivanna’s hand as they walked watching the sunrise.
“Just think about it Ivanna.” Said David poetically.
“That day we watched the sun set, and now we watch it rise.” He made a dramatic gesture toward the sun.
Ivanna laughed.
They stopped for coffee at the little café beside the harbour.
“Shall we be wild and have breakfast, like a croissant?” said David.
“Mmm. Yes.” Ivanna replied.
After breakfast they decided to go home and catch up on sleep.
“Your bed or my bed?” said David as they entered the courtyard.
“Yours.” Said Ivanna defiantly.
Although they had decided to catch up on sleep they spent the next few hours making love, finally falling asleep in each other’s arms in the early evening.
When they awoke, it was not until the following day, having both fallen peacefully into a deep long sleep.
