by Courtney Hunt

“A few weeks? I’ve been in love with you for years now. More than half my life. I intend to keep on loving you for the rest of it.”

“Alex…” Kennedy shook her head. “I don’t want to hold you back. I don’t want you to give up your dreams for me.”

“I’m not.” Kennedy looked into his handsome face, his blue gray eyes. “Dreams change, don’t they? Your dream was to be in a chef in Paris but instead, you’re here in Ashford Falls. And you’re happy, right?”

“I don’t want you to resent me.”

“Kennedy, I want to be with you. And maybe we’ll end up in Paris. Or New York. Or stay here in Ashford Falls. As long as we’re together, the where doesn’t matter to me.”

He kissed her then, a deep, possessive claiming of his mate. Pulling her tight against him, he licked his way into her mouth, twining his hand in her hair, and cupping her cheek. He raised his head, rubbing his thumb over her cheek. “Unless you don’t want to be with me?”

“I do.” He smiled at her then, as brilliant as the sun, and she couldn’t help but grin back. Then, she noticed the smoke coming from the oven. Shoving Alex aside, she snatched up a potholder and yanked the charred cookies out of the oven.

“Those were supposed to be a thank you for helping me figure out how to buy this place from Larry.”

“How about we go grab coffee instead? Let the smoke clear?” Alex wrapped his hand around hers and led her outside, stopping to steal a kiss as they walked across the square. As they broke apart, Kennedy noticed Harper staring at them. She wore turquoise running clothes today and stood frozen, stretching her hamstring rather longer than required, her mouth a perfect oval in shock.

  “Hey, sis.” Alex said, casually.

“Alex? You and…Kennedy?” Harper blinked, staring at Kennedy.

Kennedy twined her fingers with Alex and laid her head on his shoulder. He kissed the top of her head. Harper blinked at them for a second and then smiled.

“You two finally got it together, huh? Took you long enough.”

  “You knew?” Kennedy gasped.

“That you’ve been crushing on my brother for eight years while he pined for you?” Harper laughed. “Yeah, I knew, along with everyone else in Ashford Falls.”

Harper opened the door of the coffeeshop and, as Kennedy and Alex entered the shop, hand in hand, said, “Looks like Cupid got another one.”

THE END… I hope you enjoyed Café Au Lait. Please give this book a quick review on Amazon. Even just a two-word review helps so much. Positive or negative, I am grateful for all feedback from my readers.

  Author’s Note

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading the fifth story in the Cupid’s Coffeeshop series as much as I enjoyed writing it. Please check out my series page on Amazon for each new release. You can also find merchandise, illustrated quotes, and blogs about Cupid’s Coffeeshop on my website at www.Courtney-Hunt.com

You won’t find Ashford Falls if you consult a map. It’s a fictionalized version of Leesburg, Virginia. Located about 40 miles west of DC, the sleepy tiny town has become a bedroom community full of new development. But the heart of the old town is still there, tucked into the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Sadly, Cupid’s Coffeeshop does not exist at all, except in my imagination.

Many thanks to Kim Killion of the Killion Group for my gorgeous covers and designing the Cupid’s Coffeeshop logo.

If you enjoyed Café Au Lait, please leave a review on Goodreads or Amazon. Reviews are critical to helping a book succeed, especially for a new series. Please let other readers know what they can expect from Alex and Kennedy’s love story.
