Ruined: A Dark Romance Page 49

I heard a car door open and then close. Voices drifted down, but I couldn’t make out what they were saying. It was a tense moment and I didn’t want to breathe. If they came down our path, there was nowhere left for us to run. We’d have to hope that they drove on past.

My heart was hammering in my chest. Seconds ticked past like they were hours. Gage took the gun from his pants and held it in his hands, looking perfectly calm.

Thirty seconds later, the car door slammed. I heard tires on the gravel, and then slowly the sound of the car faded away.

Another ten seconds passed before I let out my breath.

  “I think they’re gone,” I said.

He nodded. “Let’s give it another minute.”

We sat there waiting, but there were no other sounds. There was only the noise of my heart beating hard and my stomach practically turning over on itself.

Gage finally lowered his gun. “They’re gone,” he said.

  “Who was that?”

He shook his head. “I don’t know.”

“They didn’t look like the mob.”

“No, they didn’t. But Vadik might be desperate. He could have hired outside muscle.”

  “Outside muscle?”

“There are a lot of gangs out there,” he said, starting the engine and slowly pulling back out onto the gravel road. “Some of them do work for Vadik from time to time. Some of them are even hostile.”

“I didn’t realize you guys had enemies.”

“Of course we do. Anyone with money and power has enemies, even if you don’t know about them.”

We headed down the gravel path and out past the soybean farms. We turned slowly onto a normal road and drove for another ten minutes.

Gage pulled off into a Motel 6 parking lot. He found a spot and killed the engine. “As good a place as any,” he said.

  “Will it be safe?”

“Probably. It’s far enough that I doubt anyone here is on the mafia payroll. Still, you’d better stay here just to be safe.”

  “Okay.”

He got out and walked quickly into the main lobby. I sat there, head spinning, feeling dizzy as I waited.

I couldn’t stop thinking about what he said. My life was never going to be the same, and part of me knew that when it all started. I had hoped that maybe we could find some solution that all this that meant I could have a normal life, but that was probably naïve.

I was going to have to let go of everything that I knew. I already was getting used to the violence and the terror that was following me around. But now I was going to have to accept that my life was always going to be different from what I had known before.

Maybe that was a good thing. Being with Gage made me feel good, incredibly good, but I didn’t know what was going to happen with him beyond this. As far as I knew, he was just helping me until the danger was over.

But maybe the danger would never be over.

I didn’t want to think about that. I had to trust Gage and believe that we were going to get past all of this somehow. Even if I was never going to practice law again, I could do something, still be someone. I didn’t have to be the Sadie that I’d always known, and maybe that was a good thing.

My whole life had been spent studying and working, trying to live up to my own expectations for myself. I hadn’t had much time to really learn what I wanted to do and be. I just dove right into law because I thought that was a good career field and could give me a good job.

But so far, it had done nothing but bring me pain. I left Seattle because of it and I might lose everything because of it in Ashertown. Gage got dragged into all of this mess too, all because of my stupid job.

Maybe it really was time to move on. I didn’t know who I could be with Gage, or if I was even going to be with him, but I did know that I liked when he was around and I liked how brave I felt when he looked at me.

After a few minutes, he returned. I climbed out of the car, got my things, and followed him back inside. We were in the very back corner of the fourth floor, tucked away next to the stairs.

The room itself was much nicer than the last one, though that wasn’t saying much. It still wasn’t in great shape, but at least I wasn’t worried about getting some kind of infection from sleeping on the sheets.

He tossed his stuff down into a corner and fell onto the bed.

  “Tired?” I asked him.

  He grunted. “I’m never tired.”

I couldn’t help but smile. “I don’t think that’s true.” I climbed into bed next to him and put my head on his chest.

He wrapped his arms around me like it was perfectly natural. We pressed our bodies together and just stayed there together, breathing deeply. I could hear the deep and steady thumping of his heart in his chest, and that brought me more comfort than I would have guessed.

We still had no plan. When everything was said and done, we didn’t know what we were going to do. The truth and the key to all this was probably hidden away in my files that were still back in my apartment, but that didn’t matter. Gage thought it was too dangerous, and I wasn’t going to disagree with him.

Despite all of that, I still felt secure in his arms. It surprised me all over again how tender he could be, just laying there in bed with me. He was breathing deeply and evenly, and it took me a few minutes to realize that he had fallen asleep.

I smiled to myself, closing my eyes. He was comfortable enough to fall asleep with me in his arms. I didn’t know what my future would bring, but I did know what my present would hold.

There was going to be Gage and more Gage. I’d take as much of him as I could and then ask for more.

  Gage

I woke up around ten in the morning, surprised that I had slept so deeply. The light was bright through the crappy blinds but it hadn’t even bothered me a little bit. Sadie was sleeping next to me curled into a little ball, her breathing even and deep. I sat up, looking around the room.

This was just a holding pattern. We were in hiding, but I hated just waiting for something to happen. I knew that I needed to make my own damn luck in this world and couldn’t sit back and hope. I made shit happen, I didn’t just wait.

I got up and remembered something I had said the day before. The Petrov Family had enemies in Ashertown, although none of them were particularly threatening. Still, there was at least one other mob that could hold their own against the Petrov family, at least for a short period.

I had friends in the Irish mob. Well, I didn’t have friends, exactly, but I knew guys. We had worked together on a few jobs a couple years ago. The Spanish cartels were moving into the area and we decided to band together to try and fight them off. That hadn’t worked, but it did put me in touch with a few guys on the other side.

I went into the bathroom and brushed my teeth. My mind started moving in fits and jumps, making connections, coming up with plans. I was finally well rested enough that I could apparently think clearly, and that meant a plan could finally come together.

When I was finished brushing, I went into the other room. Sadie was sitting up, rubbing sleep from her eyes.

  “Good morning, princess,” I said.

“Morning.” She blinked at me. “How are you so awake?”

“I’m a morning person,” I said. “Now get your pretty ass up.”

  “Why?”

“Because we have work to do.”

She perked up. “You have a plan?”

“God damn right I do. Now get up, get dressed, and get your ass in gear. We’re going to fuck up some asshole mobsters.”

She stood up, smiling. I grabbed her by the hips and pulled her against me, kissing her deeply. She kissed me back, moaning softly into my mouth. I could feel my cock stirring and as I felt her warm body against mine, I decided that we could postpone our work for a few minutes.

I tossed her onto the bed, and she laughed. I roughly grabbed her panties and tore them off.

  “Gage!” she said. “I though
t we had places to be.”

“We can wait.” I pressed my fingers between her legs and found her wet little pussy, already dripping and ready for me. “Feels like you don’t mind.”

“Oh, you asshole,” she groaned as I rubbed her clit. “I was just having a nice dream.”

  “What about?”

  “I’m not telling.”

I pressed my fingers deep inside of her. “Tell me.”

She bit her lip, breathing deeply, soft moans escaping her lips. I pressed her down against the covers, kissing her neck, fingers deep between her legs.

  “It’s embarrassing,” she said.

  “Tell me or I’ll stop.”

  “No,” she moaned. “Don’t stop.”

I slid my fingers out of her. “Tell me.”

  “Gage!”

I licked my fingers clean. “Tell me now.”

“We were in a field,” she said. As she started speaking, I dropped to my knees and pulled her to the edge of the bed. I pressed her legs wide open and slowly pushed my fingers deep inside of her.

“We were alone there,” she said through her moans. “Me and you. I took you out there and you told me that you needed me. You took off my pants and my panties and you started, ah, yes, just like that, you started doing this.”

I licked her clit, my fingers deep inside of her. I nibbled and sucked, finger fucking her pussy while she told me her dream.

“You did this to me,” she moaned. “Oh god, and, ah, I pushed you away. Said we shouldn’t. But then I got onto my knees and started giving you head. I don’t know how your pants came off. Ah shit.” Her breathing was getting deeper as I kept working her.

“I sucked your cock, taking it deep into my throat. I loved it, couldn’t stop myself. I suddenly realized that there were people around us watching, but I didn’t care. I couldn’t stop. Ah, I just kept going, kept going, kept sucking your cock. Deep into my throat, going at it wild. I didn’t care about anything but your big fat cock down my throat.”

I was so fucking hard I could barely stand it. Listening to her describe her dream was driving me fucking insane. Just knowing that she was dreaming about sucking my cock made me barely able to contain myself. I kept sucking her, licking her, working her tight little pussy.

“Just as I didn’t think I could keep going,” she said through her moan, her hands gripping the sheets, “that was when you pulled me back. You looked me in the eye and said, ‘Give me that pussy. Give it to me.’” She moaned, head tossed back, as I sucked her clit, three fingers deep inside of her pussy. “That was when you started fucking me. Right there in the field, with people watching. We were like animals.”

I couldn’t take it anymore. I pulled back and grabbed her hips, pulling her up. I rolled her, putting her on her knees, ass up in the air, dripping wet pussy ready for me. She moaned as I took off my briefs and pressed my cock against her.

  “What next?” I said.

“You pushed me down into the grass and took me just like this,” she said. “Your big cock pushed deep into my—ah.”

I pressed myself inside of her, filling her tight pussy up, cutting her off. She gripped the sheets as I grabbed her hair, pulling it back and rocking myself into her.

“Oh shit,” she said. “Just like that. That’s how you fucked me.”

I slapped her ass hard and started thrusting deep into her, one hard fuck after another. She groaned, losing her mind as I worked myself deep inside of her.

“What happened next?” I grunted, pulling her hair back. I pulled her up toward me and found her clit with my other hand, rubbing her in slow circles.

“Your big cock fucked me,” she said. “Wild and hard, like you couldn’t get enough. I gave myself to you because I had no other choice. I couldn’t stop it, even with people watching, even if it wasn’t a good idea. I needed you inside of me.”

  “Like you need it now.”

“Yes,” she gasped. “I need it now.”

“You need my big fucking cock buried deep inside of your cunt. You’re a dirty fucking girl for me, and I need to hear you say it.”

I continued fucking her, working her clit, hair in my hand.

“I’m a dirty girl,” she moaned. “I dream about your big cock. I’m such a slut for you, Gage. I’m so bad.”

I groaned, pushing her down into the bed and fucking her rough. I lost myself in that moment, overwhelmed by how fucking sexy she was, by how fucking hard I was. I fucked her deeper, slapped her ass, rubbed her clit, felt her full breasts.

I knew she was close when she spread her legs wider and started rocking back against me. Her hips twisted and slammed back, rocking her ass against me, working my big dick deeper inside of her. Sweat dripped down our bodies.

“Keep going,” she begged. “Get me there, Gage. Come on, fuck me.”

I did as requested. I fucked her deep and rough, working with her rhythm, rubbing her clit.

Her whole body tensed, and I saw the orgasm pass over her. She squirmed and spasmed, mouth open, eyes closed, a look of pure bliss on her face. I didn’t relent though, just kept fucking that tight pussy, knowing I was so close.

And as her orgasm passed, I couldn’t handle it anymore. I pulled out, jerking my big cock off and came all over her perfect fucking ass. I covered her pussy and ass in my cum, loving the way she wiggled it for me.

When it was over, we both got into the shower together. I couldn’t help but smile and laugh with her, any thoughts of what was to come completely out of my mind. In that moment, things were good.

But I knew the bad shit hadn’t even started yet.

  Sadie

Around noon, I found myself in a smoky bar in a part of Ashertown that I never went into. Not because it was particularly dangerous or anything, but just because it was traditionally the Irish part of town. The bar was crowded for a Thursday afternoon, and there were replays of soccer matches on the television.

I sipped my glass of wine and picked absently at the fish and chips I ordered for lunch. I felt a little nervous, though I knew I didn’t need to be. The memory of that morning kept coming back to me, plus the ache between my legs kept Gage’s body fresh in my mind.

“Can I do anything for you, sweetie?” the waitress asked me, pulling me from my daydream. I hadn’t even noticed her approach. She was in her forties at least, with the deep wrinkled face of a longtime smoker.

  “No, thanks,” I said.

She smiled and walked away to check on her other tables. I looked around the room again and spotted Gage sitting at the bar next to a man that I didn’t recognize.

The man was apparently named Liam Sullivan, a member of the Irish Mob. Gage didn’t go into details about how he knew Liam, but I got the sense that they did some job together in the past. The two of them were talking in low tones and drinking whisky, sitting close together. At one point, Liam glanced back at me, but that was all the involvement I had.

Gage assured me that I would be safe in the Irish bar. Even if the Petrovs somehow found us in there, the Irish would protect us from them. They didn’t particularly owe us anything, but they just didn’t like the Russians stepping into their turf like they fucking owned the place.

I hated that I couldn’t hear the discussion. I wanted to be a part of the negotiations, since my life was on the line. But I understood that this was how business had to be done, or at least it was according to Gage.

I sat there alone for at least ten minutes while the boys talked. I was getting more and more pissed off as time ticked past, and I could feel myself ready to blow up. This was my life too, after all, and I shouldn’t have been held out of discussions about it. Even if they thought I somehow would get in the way, or if they were talking about things I couldn’t know, it still annoyed me.

Finally, after ten minutes and absolutely nothing, I got up. I walked over to the boys, not letting them have their way anymore without me.

Gage looked up as I approached, a slight frown on hi
s face.

“I want to be a part of this,” I said, trying to stand my ground.

Liam grinned at me. He was tall and broad, though not as big as Gage. His rust-red hair was close cropped and he had a thick, bushy beard.

“What’s that now?” he asked. “You want to have a drink?”

“No,” I said. “I want to talk about this deal. Just because I’m a woman doesn’t mean I should be put aside.”

Liam grinned at Gage and he sighed at me. “It’s not because you’re a woman,” Gage said.

“What is it then? You mafia guys are all the same.”

“You’re a damn ADA,” Liam said, laughing. “That’s why you’re over there and we’re over here.”

“He doesn’t trust you,” Gage added.

I stood there for a second, feeling stupid. “Oh,” I said. “Well, I’m not involved with that stuff anymore.”

“Don’t matter,” Liam said, the grin getting bigger. Even Gage was smiling now. “You still were. But I admire the gut you’ve got.”

I felt like an idiot. I just stood there, not sure what to do. I could back down and look like a total weakling, or I could press and maybe ruin this deal. Liam seemed like a nice enough guy, but they all did on the surface. I knew that Liam was probably as much of a killer as Gage was, if not worse.

“Alright,” Liam said. “You’re clearly not going anywhere. Just sit down then.”

I released my breath, glad he made that decision for me. I sat down next to Gage and Liam ordered me a whisky. He slid it down to me and nodded at it.

“If you want to be a part of this, you best drink like you are.”

I picked it up and tipped it toward him then drank.

He grinned then turned back to Gage. “Well then, where were we?”

  “The files,” Gage prompted.

“So let me get this straight. You want me and my boys to get into her apartment and grab them, that right?”

“Assuming Vadik hasn’t gotten them already.”

“Right, right. You also want us to break into the goddamn DA’s office too?”
