6 Mistletoe, Makeup and Murder

“Maybe moving in together,” Bekki pointed out with a slight smile. “It's not that Nick, it's just that I did the living together thing before. I thought it was great, I would get to play house, our relationship would grow, trust would grow, all of those wonderful things. But, that's not how it turned out.”
“But it's different with us,” he reminded her. “I promise.”
“I know that,” she said firmly and looked directly into his eyes to be sure that he believed her. “But part of me wonders, does living together kind of take away from the magic of…,” she hesitated a moment and met his eyes briefly before looking away. Nick seemed confused at first until a slow smile spread across his lips.
“Of marriage?” he asked in a whisper, as if he knew better than to speak of it out loud.
“I didn't say that,” Bekki pointed out, her cheeks flushing, not just because of the cold.
“Why didn't you?” he asked and lowered his voice. He moved closer to her and grasped her arms softly just above the elbows and pulled her until she was right in front of him. “There's no one else in this world I want to spend the rest of my life with Bekki, no matter how things unfold. If we live together, if we don't, if we marry, if we don't, as long as I'm with you, my life is complete,” he held her gaze intently. “Do you know that?”
“I do,” Bekki whispered and couldn't hide her affectionate smile.
“Then, let's not change anything,” he agreed with a sparkle in his eyes. “What happens, happens,” he added and kissed her forehead lightly. As he pulled away from her, a sliver of white shimmered between them, drifting slowly down until it landed on the sleeve of Bekki's jacket. She stared at it with wonder and then looked up at the sky, where several more snowflakes had begun to make their lazy path down from the sky.
“It's snowing!” she gasped as she reached out her hand to catch a flake.
“Wow,” Nick was just as surprised and pleased as he stuck out his tongue to catch a snowflake. Bekki laughed at him, and then did the same.
When they met each others' eyes, there was no hesitation. As if they were drawn to one another, their lips met in a sensual kiss that warmed Bekki from the tips of her toes to the pink cold tip of her nose. There wasn't a single thing that she could think of that would make this Christmas any more perfect. Until... she remembered, she was the one with the mistletoe in her purse.
