The first young lady was great on paper, unfortunately nervous as hell. After about twenty minutes I cut things short and thanked her for her time. Rene was embarrassed for the poor girl, whose eyes welled up as she was getting up and thanking us for the opportunity. “Going to be a long road if this is how she acts under pressure” I told Rene when she came back into the room.

“This next gentleman I think you’ll find much better than the first candidate… in fact I think you’ve actually met him recently but may not have realized it.”

“Really?” I asked as I glanced over the resume in front of me, “name doesn’t ring a bell… Michael Weise? Not sure….”

“I’m pretty sure you do.” Rene smiled back over her shoulder as she walked out to bring him in.

All I heard was ‘This is Michael…’ and I nearly fell off my chair. I could see by the look on his face he had no idea who he was interviewing for either. There standing in front of me, having stopped dead in his tracks, was my recent lover. My mouth was moving but nothing was coming out as I felt my face turn ten shades of red. Michael as well was dumbfounded, and was looking around as if he thought he was in the wrong place.

Rene finally broke the silence. “I thought you two may have known each other! Michael please, would you like to take a seat?”

“Sure, I… why? I don’t understand?” He asked turning to Rene. “You told me a partner, I thought the gentleman who sat in with us…”

“Oh I didn’t mention who you’d be working for? That’s completely on me.” Rene was smiling ear to ear as she gestured to the empty seat in front of my desk. “Now Michael if you’d like to take a seat we can get started. Shall we?”
