“This façade most vampire are faced with daily will be eliminated once these laws are passed, and most of our kind will be thrilled with that, but there will be a few who want to test it. That’s why the prison is a must,” Dristen told them.

“Also, the Vampire Enforcement Bureau will be made up of vampire we have hand chosen. Vampire we know can handle this responsibility without any problems. They will be trained and will work with the Hunters and Huntresses to maintain law and order amongst our kind,” Holbrook informed them.

“Also, if all of the laws and policies on that list aren’t agreed to, then Dylan and I walk away and let the humans deal with this alone,” Karma told them matter-of-factly.

“Well, then I guess we have no choice but to see that Congress passes these laws swiftly,” Henley said. “Now, enough business for the moment and let’s order dinner.”

“That sounds like a lovely idea,” Johnson said and grinned. “Henley, if the sight of rare meat bothers you, then you may want to leave the room.”

“I’m good,” Johnson informed them and placed his order.

The rest of the dinner passed quickly as they ate and talked about everything except the new laws and policies they were creating in regards to vampire.

“I’m exhausted,” Karma said as she sat on the side of the bed and unzipped one boot. “I can’t believe I almost had to kill a Secret Service agent.”

“He was an ass and deserved whatever you would have given him. Hell, I almost ripped his arm off when he grabbed you,” Dylan sat beside her, and gently lifted her hair off her back. “Here, let me unzip this for you.”

“You just want me naked.” Karma teased, and Dylan laughed.

“I always want you naked.” Dylan said as he placed soft kisses down her back.

“Dylan, I want to do the blood exchange tonight. I want you to make love to me while we do it.”

Dylan growled softly as he slid her dress off her shoulders and down her arms. “Are you sure?”

She stood up and let her dress slither down her body until it pooled at her feet.

“I’m positive,” she whispered as she took a step toward him. “I want to taste your blood as I feel you moving inside me.”

Her words made Dylan’s head swim, and when she reached out and slid her hand across his bulging crotch he hissed in a breath.

“I want you more than I have ever wanted anything in my life.”

Karma smiled at his words, and started to slowly unbutton his shirt. “Make love to me, Dylan.”

“You don’t have to ask me twice,” Dylan said as he picked her up and gently laid her on the bed.

“Absolutely beautiful,” he said as he raked his eyes over her body. “MINE!” He growled and joined her on the bed.

“Yes, yours,” she said and pulled his head down until their lips met.

Once his hands were on her, his control snapped. He ripped her lacy black panties from her body and sank his fingers deep into her wet folds.

  “Mmm…always ready,” he whispered.

When she moaned loudly, he pulled his fingers from inside her and covered her body with his.

“I’m going to bite as I enter you,” he told her, and she nodded. He entered her in one slow thrust as his teeth sank deep into her neck.

She cried out at the pleasure their mating was bringing her. As Dylan moved inside her, she bit deep into his shoulder and was taken to a place she’d never even imagined.

  Chapter Twenty-Seven

“Karma, you okay baby? I know I was rough with you last night,” Dylan asked the next morning as he drew small circles on her back.

“I’m better than okay,” she answered as she twisted in his arms, so she could face him. “Last night was amazing.”

“I was afraid I hurt you. You didn’t talk afterwards, and I was worried.”

“I’m sorry you were worried, Dylan. I didn’t talk because I couldn’t find the words to express how you made me feel. Last night was ecstasy. It was like nothing I ever imagined.”

“It was the same for me. Tasting your blood was like drinking the elixir of life. It made me feel stronger, more powerful than I’ve ever felt before. Maybe it’s the copula, or maybe it’s you, but drinking your blood made me feel like I can do anything.”

“I feel the same way, but it also made me very sleepy. Like I was drained of all energy at the time. This morning I feel rejuvenated, like I can face anything life throws at me.”

“That’s good because we have a meeting with Victoria and Congress in two hours. That’s just enough time to shower and have breakfast,” Dylan gently slapped her butt then hopped out of bed and walked to the bathroom. She laid there until she heard the water turn on then she got up and joined him under the stream of hot water.

After a round of shower sex and a breakfast of French toast, bacon and coffee, Karma and Dylan made their way downstairs.

“The meeting starts in thirty minutes, but it will only take us five minutes to get there. Why are we leaving so early?”

Dylan shook his head and smiled at her, but didn’t answer. When the elevator doors dinged, and Karma stepped out her face lit up in a huge smile. Nevaeh, Jackson, and the rest of the Huntresses were standing in the hotel lobby waiting for them.

“Oh my God. You finally made it,” Karma screeched out and wrapped her arms around Jackson. When she released him, she turned to Nevaeh, “Where are the vans? I want my weapons.”

Everyone around her laughed and Nevaeh led her into the parking garage where the three vans were parked. Karma found her bag immediately and started digging through it. Once she had her weapon’s belt strapped securely in place, she grabbed her thin jacket out and slipped it on to conceal everything.

“Now I feel better. Let’s go get this meeting over with now,” she said, then walked to the waiting limo and climbed inside.

“I guess we’re going to the meeting now,” Dylan said and shrugged his shoulders.

Ten minutes later they were walking into the Capital. When Karma set off the metal detectors everyone rolled their eyes.

“Ma’am, can you step this way please?” The guard asked, and Karma nodded.

“I hope we don’t have a problem,” Holbrook said with a grin.

“Maybe we should call Johnson,” Ramsey suggested and Aleyn pulled out his cell phone.

“I’m on it,” he said as he pressed the phone to his ear and watched the exchange between Karma and the guard.

“Ma’am, do you have any weapons on you?”

“Yes,” Karma answered honestly, not seeing any reason to lie.

“I’m going to have to ask you to surrender those weapons.”

Karma rolled her eyes. “Not this again,” she murmured under her breath.

“I have to respectfully decline that request,” she told him in a flat tone.

“Excuse me?” The guard was taken aback by her refusal.

“I said, I have to respectfully decline that request. I am not giving my weapons to you, or anyone else. Don’t you speak English?”

The guard stood there for a moment, not completely sure what to do next. When he made the decision to try and disarm her, she had him on the floor in less than a second.

“Let him up, Karma,” Johnson said from behind her. “He’s just doing his job.”

“If people would just let the dumbass guards know who we are then I wouldn’t have to keep going through this crap,” Karma said after she stood up and pulled the guard to his feet.

“I agree, but they are only doing their jobs,” Johnson reminded her.

“Yes, I know. But I’m only trying to do mine, too,” Karma reminded him.

“Duly noted,” he smiled and motioned for the group to follow him. “What do you have hidden under your clothes today?”

“Just a few essentials,” Karma winked at him and he chuckled.

Johnson chuckled and shook his head as he led them down a long hallway and in
to a small room.

“Okay, this room is right under the Congressional seating. I’m going to go out and announce you, Karma and Dylan, then you will walk straight through that door and meet with all of Congress. Are you ready?”

“Yep. People don’t scare me. I know I can kill them if need be,” Karma said, and Johnson grinned.

“By the way, I’m not the only vampire in Congress. There are five of us,” Johnson warned them with a smile.

“Still not scared. I can kill them too,” Karma unzipped her jacket and Johnson saw her assortment of wooden and silver weapons. “I think I’m covered.”

“So it seems,” Johnson said with a note of sarcasm in his voice. “Give me a few minutes to prepare them for you, then I’ll call you forward.”

“We’ll be right here.” Dylan said, and Johnson disappeared through the door.

“I’m really glad I didn’t have to hurt that guard. I’m so tired of them trying to take my weapons though. Do they really think they can disarm me?”

“They don’t know who they’re dealing with. Ignorance will not be an excuse much longer though,” Langley told her and grinned. “Soon they will know about us, and we will work with the humans to keep everything peaceful.”

“Do you think we can? Keep everything peaceful I mean?” Dylan asked curiously.

“We are going to do everything in our power to keep things peaceful. Before we can do that, we have to convince these politicians the laws we are proposing must be put into place in order for us to do anything,” Karma told him and grinned. “Or I could just kill them all and replace them with people we know will do what needs to be done.”

“That would violate like every rule on the list,” Dylan reminded her.

“Yeah, but they aren’t laws yet,” Karma wiggled her eyebrows and Dylan laughed at her.

“That’s true, but you’d never do that.”

“True. Guess we need to try the hard way first.”

“They’re ready for you,” Johnson said as he stepped back into the small room.

“Here we go,” Karma said as she took a deep breath and walked through the door.

  Chapter Twenty-Eight

“That was horrible,” Karma said as she flopped down on the bed two hours later. “Those idiots don’t know anything. How in the hell did they get elected?”

“I have no idea, but I am very proud of you for not ripping Senator Grissom’s head off. When he said that about vampire I seriously thought you were going to kill him.”

“I seriously want to. I wanted to rip his head off with my hands. I didn’t because, as much of an idiot as he is, he wasn’t the biggest idiot. That Representative Kirk was an even bigger idiot. I mean his suggestion about capturing vampire and testing them to see what flaw in their blood makes them crave blood was preposterous.”

“What about Senator Devlin’s idea for the prison being built underground? That was actually a good idea.”

“She was one of the smart ones who actually seemed willing to accept things as they are, and work on getting everything set up so we can introduce vampire to humans.”

“Enough talk about them. I say we get some lunch and go exploring D.C. for a little while. We have that meeting with the President later, but that’s a little over six hours from now.”

“That sounds like a great plan.”

  ****

“I forgot how much I love ice cream,” Karma said with a smile. “Thank you for buying me ice cream.”

“You’re welcome,” Dylan said as they started walking back to the hotel. “We have an hour and a half before our meeting. I guess we should head back and start getting ready.”

“Dylan, just keep walking. We’re being followed,” Karma whispered just loud enough for him to hear. “Six vampire.”

“I smell them now. Maybe they just want to talk,” Dylan said hopefully, and Karma just shook her head.

“They have been following us for a while, but I really didn’t pay much attention to them until they waited outside the ice cream shop for us. That’s when I knew for sure they were watching us.”

  “What’s the plan?”

“Well, there are only six of them, so I think we duck into the next alley and see if they follow us. If so, we can see what they want. They may just want to talk,” Karma didn’t really think talking was what they wanted, but she was going to give them the benefit of the doubt and see.

“Just in case they want to fight, here,” she unzipped her jacket and handed him three of the daggers she had hidden there just as they slid into the alley.

They darted quickly to the middle, then turned back toward the entrance and waited. When the six vampire ducked into the alley, Karma immediately knew they didn’t want to have a chat.

“They want a fight so let’s give them one.” Karma pulled her Sai from their holsters and took up a fighting stance.

“Halflings, we were told we could find you here,” one of them said, and grinned, flashing his fangs.

“I have a set of those too,” Karma said, and snarled at him.

“But do you know how to use them?” One of the others asked.

“Wanna find out?” Karma challenged and grinned when he took a step closer.

“I’d love to,” he said and leaped. Karma ducked and pivoted, causing him to sail over her head and crash into the brick wall of the alley. As he got to his feet she grabbed a wooden dagger from her belt, and threw it with a force so powerful it imbedded itself in his chest.

“One down, five to go,” she murmured and jumped back into the fight.

Within minutes they had the six vampire eliminated and were walking back to the hotel.

“That was a little bit of a stress reliever,” Karma said as they walked into the hotel. “Wish we would have kept one to tell us who sent them.”

“Yeah, that would have been helpful,” Dylan said dryly. “Let’s go call the Senate and let them know what happened. Then we have to get ready for this meeting with the President.”

“I say we shower first. I don’t know about you, but I want this vampire blood off me before I chit-chat with anyone.”

“That sounds like a plan,” Dylan agreed with a grin.

Twenty minutes later Karma, Dylan, Harrison, the Senate, and the Huntresses were all sitting in the conference room of the hotel.

“There were six of them, but we never found out where they came from. I wish I knew who sent them,” Karma said in a huff. “I should have captured one.”

“They weren’t there to be captured. It was a kill it be killed fight,” Dylan reminded her.

“I don’t think Vincent sent them. They followed us for about an hour before they attacked, and if he’d sent them, they would have attacked sooner,” Karma said, and Dylan agreed.

“Could it have been one of the vampire in Congress?” Malinda, one of the Huntresses, asked.

“I’ve thought about that, but what would they gain from killing me and Dylan?” Karma asked.

“Maybe they don’t like the thought of vampire being exposed. Maybe they’re doing something that violates the new vampire laws you’re wanting to put in place, and they don’t want to stop doing it,” Harrison suggested.

“Could very well be,” Langley said and shook his head. “There is a way we can find out.”

  “How?” Dylan asked.

“I have a friend who has special abilities. She can tell if someone is lying just by being in the room with them, kind of like what Karma can do, but she doesn’t have to be in close proximity to them. Give me two days to get her here, and then we will call a meeting with them again and see what they say. But right now, we have a meeting with the President that we have to get to,” Langley told them and Karma grinned.

“She’s going to be so confused. They’re politicians after all, they always lie.”

“Valid point, but she can focus on a specific lie, and when she asks if any of them had anything to do with the attack, she will know almost immediately who it was
. Lying by omission is easier for her to detect.”

“Okay. I say we contact her and set up a full Congressional meeting. The President should be able to get them all there without any problems. By the way, I’m wearing my warrior clothes and going fully armed tonight. They can all kiss my ass if they don’t like it. I’m not risking facing an attack unarmed,” Karma said, then stood up and walked out of the room.

“Looks like we’re going to have to deal with guards again,” Holbrook said dryly, and everyone grimaced.

“This should be fun,” Constance said as they all filed out of the room.

  Chapter Twenty-Nine

“Mr. President, it’s nice to finally meet you,” Karma said and shook his hand.

“Nice to meet you too, Miss Black,” President Isaac said with a warm smile. “I hear you’ve had a few rounds with my agents over the past few days. I assume you didn’t have any issues this evening?”

“No, Sir. The agent tonight was very nice. She never even once asked me to disarm. Not that I would have anyway,” Karma told him. “Dylan and I were attacked earlier today, so there’s no way I’m going anywhere unarmed again.”

“Attacked?” President Isaac asked curiously. “By whom?”

“No idea who sent them, but there were six vampire. They’re all dead, so I couldn’t question them either,” Karma answered.

“We think maybe a member of Congress sent them. You have six members who are vampire; Representatives Johnson, Hadley, Jamieson, and Grayson, and Senators Markus and Matthews. We have almost ruled out Johnson because he has helped us on a few occasions, but the others are still suspects. There is a way we can find out if one of them ordered the attack though,” Eduardo told him.

“Then do it. I don’t care what it is, just do it. I want these laws passed and I want them passed quickly, so do whatever it takes to see that it happens,” President Isaac told them and Karma grinned.

“I like you,” she told him, and he smiled at her. “I don’t normally like anyone, but I really like you.”
