Fighting Desire (Bay State Series Book 2)

Labor of love
I'm so fucking turned on as I carry her out of the bar. I had to get out of there before anyone spotted my major wood trying to escape my jeans. To be a fly on the brick wall. I would have loved to see her kicking that bitch's ass. Is she insane? Did she really think after everything that Sarah would actually believe her? No doubt she wanted to upset her. I'm sure she didn't expect the ass whoopin' my little firecracker gave her. Ha! Serves the bitch right. Right now the only thing that matters is getting Sarah home to worship her and show her just how much her actions turn me on. Hailing a cab to the station, we stand and wait for one to pull over. Getting in, I give the driver instructions and without wasting any time, take her face in my hands and show her how much I appreciate her with a kiss.
She takes my hand in hers the second we climb into my car after getting off the T. The ice helped with the swelling, but she's gonna have a nasty bruise in the morning, I can already see it forming. I run my thumb across her knucles as I ask, “You hit her with your left hand?”
She turns her head to me and dazzles me with her perfect smile. “Sure did, south paw all the way, when it comes to fighting anyway. I took kickboxing when I was younger and the instructor was just as surprised as you are.” She brings our joined hands to her mouth and places a chaste kiss onto mine before dropping them back to the shifter.
“Can't wait to get you home baby. Get ready for me to pay homage to every inch of your sexy ass body.” My words send shivers throughout her body, stirring my cock, making it harder than it already is. An idea forms in my head to see if she'll spar with me sometime. I had no idea she has fighting experience or I would have asked sooner. Now's not the time, we wouldn't get much fighting accomplished. I'd have her naked before either one of us had a chance to land a blow. Fuck just thinking that word has me imagining her plump lips wrapped around me and I let out my own shiver. Are we home yet? I'm about to pull over and take her now, while she sits next to me unaware of my thoughts.
“Me either, hurry up.” She giggles and her hand reaches out to brush against the bulge in my pants and I almost lose it, letting out a low growl, making her giggle even harder. She continues her torture until I park the car and cut the ignition.
We both make our way towards the building at a fast pace, neither one of us showing any sign of patience when it comes to making love. Our urgency crackles in the air. Before I even get the door closed behind me, she's on me, tearing at my clothes, all fumbling fingers to get to her prize. We're interrupted by the shrill ringing of my cell phone. I ignore it, letting it go to voicemail. Not even a minute goes by and her phone starts ringing.
Letting go, I back away from her and she lets out a grunt of frustration and grabs her purse discarded on the floor to search out her call. I take the time to check mine and see that I had a missed call from Braydon. I look to Sarah, gesturing to her phone so she'll turn it to let me see who's calling. “Answer it,” I tell her seeing Braydon's name on her screen.
“Hello,” she says when she answers. Her face goes white as a ghost and I can hear his panicked voice on the other end. Not being able to hear what he's saying, I give her a questioning look.
With a shaky hand she hands the phone to me. “Whoa, I can't tell what your saying buddy, slow down.”
“Ilyanna... Ilyanna's in labor, for real this time. We're at the hospital. I didn't bother calling anyone right away because I wasn't sure if they'd just send us home again. Rachel's on her way here now with John and Mary. I just wanted to let you guys know. I'll keep you updated.”
“We're on our way, you need your friends right now, are you at the same hospital?”
“Yeah, maternity floor. Just ask for us at the desk, they'll be moving her to labor and delivery soon.”
“Alright, give us an hour or so to get there. Give her our love buddy. We'll see you soon.”
“Will do, thanks.”
Looking around at my clothes on the floor I let out a chuckle. “Fuckin' cock blocker.” Sarah hasn't moved from her spot, still pale and shaking. Taking her in my arms I whisper, “What's wrong baby?”
She shakes herself before answering. “I'll be fine, I hate panicked phone calls. Takes me back.” She lets out a morbid laugh. “I'm so fucked up. Will I ever have a normal reaction? Like happiness would have been a good one. Instead I totally freak out. God, I'm such a mess.” She starts to cry in my arms and I swear the sound breaks me.
“Baby don't cry. For you it's normal. It might take a while for you to distinguish some emotions from others. I don't think your fucked up.” I let her go and give her a quick kiss. “Why don't you go change into something a little more comfortable. We can finish what we started later.”
She wipes the tears from her face and turns towards the bedroom. Looking over her shoulder at me, she gives me a sexy wink. “Damn straight we will. Let's go welcome a baby into the world. Give me five minutes.”
Waiting for her to get dressed, I throw my clothes back on and grab a water from the fridge. Thinking back over the last few minutes, it's crazy how one simple phone call can douse the flames like a glass of ice cold water.

It's just past midnight when we make it to the maternity ward. We don't need to bother with the nurse's station, Rachel rushes to us as soon as we walk through the doors. John is still pacing down the hall, outside of what I expect to be Ilyanna's room.
I leave the girls and walk over to him. “Hey, how's everything going?” As soon as the words leave my lips I hear a blood curdling scream come from the other side of the heavy wooden door. “That good huh?” I ask trying to lighten the mood. John's obviously stressed by the look of his hair, he's been trying to yank it out of his head for the past couple of hours.
“Shit, Rachel's got me stressed out. Braydon's got me stressed out. Fuck, I'm stressed out.” He stammers.
“Come on, let's go get some air.”
“What if Braydon comes out with news? I don't want to miss this.”
“They're not going anywhere, you need to breath for a little bit. No doubt Rachel will call you if there's any news, we'll only be a few minutes away. I don't think I can take the screaming, personally.”
“Fine, I'm right behind you, lead the way.”
We stop where the girls are sitting to let them know we'll be back in a few.
“Are you crazy? What if she has the baby? I need you,” Rachel frantically voices her concern to her husband while Sarah giggles, shaking her head.
“Are you gonna be alright?” I ask Sarah as I bend for a kiss.
“Definitely, I'll keep this chick from going crazy while your gone.” She moves in for another kiss and I happily oblige.

As we walk through the hallways towards the exit John's being suspiciously quiet. He looks to be bursting at the seems, dying to get something off his chest, but can't find the words. I can almost see the wheels turning with internal debate. “Spill it. What's got you such a mess? And don't say nothing, cuz I call bullshit.”
“How can you tell something's on my mind?”
“I just can, so out with it.” I coax him, trying to get some answers. Something has him on edge other than Ilyanna and I want details.
“Rachel's pregnant.”
“No fuckin' way, that's awesome!”
“We wanted to wait until after the baby came to say anything, but hearing Ilyanna in that room is sending me into a panic. I don't ever want to hear those sounds coming out of my wife's mouth. I'll probably end up passin' out and missing the birth of our kid. What kind of fuckin' dad would that make me? Sorry son, I missed your entrance cuz I was passed out on the floor.” The thought puts a small smile on his otherwise serious expression. He's still wearing the same black jean shorts and redsox tee he had on at the bar.
“Did you come straight here from Scoreboards?”
“Yeah, we got the call about twenty minutes after you left. We had to stop and pick up Mary on our way. Ilyanna insisted that her m
other be here, can't say I blame her. Rachel's parents are already talking about moving here closer to her due date, which isn't until the end of November. We found out on our honeymoon.” As he let the last bit of information slip, his face split into a huge grin. “Imagine how hard it is to keep something like that secret. I'm surprised Rachel's been able to contain it.” We continue walking until we make it outside the only exit that's open at this time in the emergency department and take a seat on one of the benches outside the door.
I have to admit, I feel a little sad over the miscarriage Trish suffered while we were married, but I'm a true believer that God has a plan and a child for us wasn't in it. “I'm so happy for you guys. So when are you going to share the big news with everyone?”
“Rachel had an idea to put something in the gift for the baby. Something for Ilyanna to find while rummaging through a big bag of stuff. I know she framed a copy of the sonogram picture, with the words hi auntie photo shopped on it.” He's become so animated talking about their big announcement, I knew it was a good idea to get him out of there for a while.
“Wonder if anyone's hungry. Want to take a quick walk down the street? I'm pretty sure taco bell's still open. I could sure go for a couple burritos.”
He just nods in answer and we take off in the direction of the restaurant.
*****
“Who's hungry?” I ask holding up my fists that are both loaded down with bags, while John carries the drink trays.
Seeing Braydon out in the hall throws me through a loop and he must see the concern in my expression. “She's sleeping. Her medicine kicked in. the doctor thinks it will still be another couple of hours until she's fully dilated. Rachel's sitting in there with Mary keeping her company, let me go get them so they can eat.” He looks exhausted in his blue scrubs, dark circles take up residence under each of his eyes, which are blood shot. And his hair looks as if he hasn't combed it in over a month.
“Thanks, I hope everyone likes tacos or burritos. I got a shit ton of each.”
“Thanks babe. I'm starved,” Sarah tells me as I take the seat beside her and she reaches out to take the bags from me. Looking up at John she asks, “What do you have for drinks?”
“I got Mountain Dew, Pepsi or water.” Holding out the tray for her, she grabs a dew and starts to gulp it down, releasing the straw with a smack of her lips.
“You guys are awesome!” Rachel rushes over to attack us, taking a couple burritos and a water she sits on the other side of Sarah. “I hope she hurries up and has this baby, I'm dyin' over here. Can't wait to see my little niece.” She mumbles through a mouthful of food.
“Rachel babe, that's real sexy. Hasn't anyone ever told you it's not ladylike to talk with your mouth full?” John remarks, taking his own food and a seat next to his wife.
Braydon and Mary haven't come out of Ilyanna's room, but before I have a chance to question it, Rachel stands and says, “Thanks, better get back in there, they don't want her waking up alone. I'll send them out. That is if there's any food left after you two hogs.” She laughs gesturing between her husband and me.
Minutes later Braydon steps out into the hall with an even more exhausted looking Mary. The woman is still in her pajamas pants with little sheep on them and an oversized Blake Shelton shirt. I didn't think it was possible but the circles under her eyes are even darker than Braydon's.
It's eerily quiet while they eat. John is checking something on his phone and Sarah is staring off into space, completely lost in her own thoughts. We've been here an hour now, I think see needs some air too. “Come for a walk with me,” I tell her and stand, waiting for her to join me,
“Where are we going?”
“Around.” Is my only reply. Offering her my hand, she takes it and we start down the hallway, going in the same direction as before. “I wonder if they were like this once?”
I hadn't realized I spoke out loud until Sarah asked, “Who?”
Reluctantly I answer, opening up a can of worms better left closed. I don't want her feeling bad for me, I made my choice to lose contact. “My parents. You know when they were expecting me, I don't remember too many good times with them, the bad always seem to outweigh them whenever I think about it.”
She stops dead in her tracks, no doubt shocked that I'm talking about my parents. “Of course they did, don't you dare think otherwise. You haven't told me much about them so I can't begin to understand. I know you will when your ready, just know, you won't get any pressure from me.”
I love this woman so much. She doesn't push me. I'm really not used to that. Growing up it was push, push, push. I think they wanted me twenty years mature at twelve and out of the house even sooner. I was a burden to them, I'm sure they're happier than pigs in a big ol' pile of steamy, smelly horse shit that I don't contact them. “Thanks, I appreciate it. I just want you to know, when it's our turn in there, I'm gonna be the happiest son of a bitch alive. I can't wait to make babies with you.”
“Brent Jacobs, Are you saying you want to knock me up?” She gives me a seductive smile.
“I'm not saying any time soon, but I love the practice, that's for damn sure.” She laughs and swats at my arm playfully.
“Me too baby, me too.”
“Let's get back. I wonder if Ilyanna's awake yet?” I really need to clear the vision of Sarah wrapped in my arms, writhing naked in our bed as I drive her to ecstasy. This isn't the time or the place, considering I can't bring them to reality at the moment. It is the weekend after all, marathon sex is definitely in the plans over the next couple days.
When we finally push our way through the maternity doors, the sight and sounds alert me that we've missed something. John is sitting in one of the many vacant seats, rocking back and forth, wringing his hands together with a look of total horror on his face. I can hear screams coming from down the hall and I know this is it. Little O'Donnell will be joining us soon. Shit! I can't imagine how much worse he'll be when it's Rachel doing the screaming.
“You gonna make it man?” I ask as we settle down next to him for the long haul.
“Braydon came out about twenty minutes ago. Ilyanna was screaming for Rachel, said she didn't want him anywhere near her, that it's all his fault.” A small smile turning the corner of his mouth up as he lightly chuckles, letting me know that at least he's getting some amusement from this. “He couldn't stay away of course. I'm not going to be able to that's for damn sure. If I'm not passed out on the ground that is.”
Sarah whips her head at his words. “Wait! What are you saying?” She asks and squeals when he nods in answer. “Oh my God! Really? Haha, that's awesome. Congratulations. Who else knows besides us?”
“Just you two, and our parents. We wanted to wait to tell everyone until after their baby was born.”
“I'll keep my lips sealed until I know the news is shared. I'd hate to ruin the surprise.” She jumps as another loud scream rips through the air. “When I have a baby, I want to be knocked the fuck out and cut open. I don't think I can handle this shit.”
Looking at her laugh, her face full of animation while talking about having my baby makes my heart soar. I know she'll be a good mother. Wonder how long it will be until she agrees to start trying. I file that conversation in the back of my mind for another time.
Haylee mae
Ilyanna's asked me to write the birth announcement for the paper and so far the only thing written in front of me is her name, date and time of birth and weight and length. I stare at the sheet in front of me and try to think of things to add.
Born May 31st, 2015 to Braydon O'Donnell and Ilyanna Sicliano, Haylee Mae O'Donnell came into the world at 3:37 am, weighing 6lbs, 5oz and is approximately 18 inches long.
So I stare and stare some more, trying to think of things I could possibly know about them to write. At this point I'm ready to throw in the towel and hand the job over to Rachel, she's knows way more than I do. As if sensing my distress, she hands the little pink bundle of joy back to her mommy and
joins me on the loveseat that's situated on the opposite wall from Ilyanna's bed.
“Watcha doin'?” She asks and peeks at the paper clutched in my hand. It's now night time and everyone's come back to visit the happy family before heading home and calling it a day. A very exhausting day I might add.
Brent and I finally made our way back to the apartment an hour after Ilyanna delivered. All thoughts of love making gone as we headed straight for the bedroom and crashed for eight straight hours. Disoriented doesn't begin to explain how my body and mind are feeling right now. My sleeping pattern's going to be fucked for a while. “Trying to wrap my head around this announcement.” I thrust it into her hand and she smiles while reading what little bit I've managed to get down.
“I'll finish it for you. If you don't mind?”
“Really? I don't mind at all. I was actually just thinking about asking you if you would.”
“Great! Consider it done.” She looks to Ilyanna holding Haylee and then back at me. “Have you held her yet?”
“No, I'm afraid I'll drop her or something. Honestly, babies scare the shit out of me.”
“Oh come on, don't be ridiculous. You'll be fine. She weighs next to nothing. No chance in dropping her at all. Trust me.”
She ushers me over to the bed where they lay peacefully, Ilyanna cooing at the newborn in her arms. “May I hold her?” I ask, my face scrunching up as she hands me the baby. She has to be the cutest thing I've ever seen. A smattering of dark hair sits atop her dainty head, which is the only part of her I can see at the moment, the rest of her swaddled tightly in her blanket. “She's beautiful, and I love her name the spelling's very unique.”
She beams at her daughter before filling me in on the meaning behind it. “First off, I've always loved the name. I thought it would be cute since I grew up around so many farms to use h-a-y, and l-e-e, well that was a no brainer seeing as Lee Bryce is my favorite musician and Braydon proposed at one of his concerts. Braydon chose her middle name, being the month she was born in and used the Irish spelling.” When she's finished speaking her eyes trail towards her fiancé, the love shone in their depths is one I never thought I would feel.
