Broken Vows

by C McCullough

“Hey son.” Mateo held out his hands for a hug. Junior grabbed on to my leg, afraid of the person in front of him.

  “Mommy.” He cried.

“It’s Daddy baby.” I told him. Never denying the fact that his father still exists and still love him. Junior walked closer to Mateo and looked into his eyes. “Daddy!” He squeezes Mateo.

Mateo squeezes him back with tears flowing endless down his rough face. He wrote letters for me and Junior, we just never had to the time to write back. I knew he was getting out; I just didn’t know when. From what I heard; Lola is set to be released on parole in two months.

I didn’t want to break family bonding time up but were running late for our plane. “We have to go. We have to get to our plane.”

Mateo tried wiping the tears away, but they kept falling. “Ok. Ok. I’m sorry. Are you guys moving away?”

“No, we have somewhere to be.” He knew about me giving Sophia and Dino the house because they kept in touch with him for the past 2 years.

“Ok, when you get back, can I see Junior?” He asked.

“Yea. When we get back, we can set something up.”

“Thank you, Shay.” He grabs his son again and kiss him on the cheeks. “I love you son!”

  “I love you too Daddy.”

I sped to the airport and made it there just in time. Getting to the plane and getting off was a challenge with a two year old and a seven-year-old. Luckily Franklin was waiting for us at the luggage area.

“Missed you guys!” He kissed us.
