Stormy Rapture

by Margaret Pargeter

Achingly Liza stirred, her eyes liquid beneath his grey ones. Nothing stood between them any more. No Bill Bright or Laura Tenson; no house with its ensuing problems. It all seemed too wonderful to be true, but who was she to question such a miracle, or to quarrel with such a glorious fate? Where they lived couldn't possibly matter.

"Liza," he murmured, darkly intent, "I asked you a question."

"To which you already know the answer." Passionately she reached up a hand and drew him down to her again, her pulse throbbing wildly. "Whither thou goest, I'll go," she misquoted fervently against his lips. "Just so long as we're together."

"Which seems to answer everything," he replied, supremely satisfied. His breath slid over her gently as his arms pulled her closer and there was no sound any more. Just the wind through the old elm tree which stood guardian on the lawn outside.
