Willing to Endure: A Dark Fantasy (The Shedim Rebellion Book 3)

Without help, you will die.
They fear you, child, and send assassins.
The first of many. Trust no one.
Marah squeezed her eyes shut and wiped her tears. “I don’t know what to do.”
Tyrus said, “We keep the peace if we can and fight if we must.”
“Will you help me?”
“Of course. I owe you my life,” Tyrus said. “And I owe your mother more.”
“What was she like?”
“She was a good queen. She was my friend.”
Marah didn’t know what to say about her mother. She was curious about where she had come from, but Dura was her family. Thoughts of her mother and Sornum left her worrying about Azmon. Her own father wanted her dead and had flown home to build another army. She knew he would attack her again, and the knowledge saddened her.
“You were right, months ago, to call me home. I belong with you,” Tyrus said. “One day, I will show you your real home of Narbor. Ishma’s crown is your birthright.”
“I am above royalty, Tyrus.” Marah took his hand. “I am a prophet.”
She sensed her words rippling forth among the living and the dead. The Shinari knights shuffled in their armor, and the teeming dead stilled. Tyrus squeezed her hand and stood firm. She scared everyone else. The dead began whispering about a dark future. Kings, priests, and sorcerers would build empires in Marah’s name. They would parade her in front of their armies and command her to kill. She was too young to understand everything, but she felt the bleakness of more war. Too many would die. Marah saw more pyres, millions more—an entire world consumed by famine and fire.
