Bloodfeather

by Linz Lenay

“Hey, Bloodfeather.” I say to her as she passes by me, stopping to peck my lips quick at the grill. I smack her ass as she walks away and she playfully pushes back into my hand. “Later.” I tell her.

  “Promises, promises, Sir.”

I chuckle and go back to checking the temperature on the grill.

The guys get the tent up and some stick with the girls to chat, while some come up to the grill to bull with me while I cook. Karter has been giving me crap all summer about my healthy habits continuing instead of letting loose like most of the other guys do in the off-season, meanwhile I do it for a reason. I don't feel down or off, I'm energized and I can focus. I also still workout almost every day in one way or another. If I don't make it down to the gym, basement or the arena, Dee makes sure I get my cardio in.

She is all for getting cardio in.

I've heard the horror stories about other women's sex drives crashing once they're living with their partner or after getting pregnant, and let me tell them that Bloodfeather is not denying me. If anything, I had to turn her down once or twice because I thought she was going to go raw or my dick was going to fall off with all the use.

Not that I'm complaining. I love our life, and I'm excited for what's to come. We've already started putting the nursery together, telling people they can't go in the room attached to ours because we're renovating. So far it's painted, has a crib and rocker, hardwood flooring with a fluffy lime green rug that Dasia insisted she needed, and all we have left to get is a changing table and dresser for the baby's clothes. She has had multiple ultrasounds, but we haven't found out the gender of the baby yet. She wanted to keep the nursery neutral though, so there's various shades of greens and purples all over the room. Her argument was that boys can like purple and girls could like green. I didn't argue. Storm on the other hand wasn't as smart, telling Dee that was the stupidest thing she's ever heard. She's been voted off Godmother Island according to Dasia as she bawled into the rug that she loved so much. Mo and I rubbed her back while Kristof calmly explained to her what she had done.

After a few days of Dasia busying herself so she couldn't talk to her best friend, she called her and forgave her telling her that she didn't want to talk in detail about it anymore. Hormones are a bitch.

  Dasia...

“No seriously, what's your secret to these burgers? They're phenomenal. And don't lie to me and tell me G made them. He's not this creative.”

Karter has been trying to get it out of me what they're made of for at least twenty minutes now. He won't accept that Gaige is the mastermind behind them. I'm also not going to be the one to tell him that they aren't meat. He is right though, they are fantastic and Gaige has a good thing going with these. I don't know the whole recipe off hand, but I do know that he used cauliflower and they have no meat in them. I also know that Gaige and I are the only ones who know they're meatless. Everyone has raved about them, but Karter won't let it go at that. He's insisted that I teach him the ways of the patty. I've denied him multiple times now and he's relentless.

“Gaige is the brilliance behind them. You'll have to get it out of him. I don't know what all is in them. I can't tell you the secrets.”

“Karter, just drop it and enjoy this yummy goodness. Maybe beg for there to be more.” Storm tells him, giving him a look that says shut your trap already.

“Storm is right. I for one am going to keep enjoying this awesomesauce and speaking of sauce, Dee, I know you made that barbecue sauce, is there any way I can get that recipe later? I think my future mother-in-law would flove it. She uses the stuff on everything.” Monica says.

“Yeah sure, it's vegan actually, but seriously better than any store brand I've ever tried. I'll send you the recipe later.”

“Oh so you'll give Mo your secrets, but not your man's best friend?” Karter whines. Yes he actually sounds like a toddler.

“Again, I don't have a recipe for the burgers. That's all Gaige.” I give my fiance a wry grin.

He winks at me, but he's been staying quiet other than a laugh here and there. He's just watching the show unfold. I stare at him in awe for a little while, thinking of everything we've been through in the past year.

Getting together early in the hockey season, dating, moving in together, buying a house, the playoffs then the cup. The pregnancy and the bad things, too. Even with the events that happened with Vadik, I can't regret a moment of my time with Gaige. Everything has led to who I am today and we are constantly evolving together. I secretly hope we're having a boy first, but once we're married, I want to try for a girl. A little hockey player who's going to be protective and respectful of the women in his life, then a princess who isn't afraid to kick someone's ass. With Gaige as their father, boy or girl, they'll be beasts.

Monica nudges me, breaking into my thoughts and I realize that I've spaced out staring at the love of my life. I smile at her, thanking her for not letting me drift for long. It's then that I realize that Gaige is staring back at me and there's heat in his gaze. I wink at him and excuse myself saying I need a moment to freshen up. Honestly, I'm hoping he'll follow me inside and we can christen the last room in the house.

A few moments later, I've gotten exactly what I want. I try to be quiet, but lets face it, when you have the sexiest fiance and your hormones are out of control due to the baby he's put inside you, yeah, there's absolutely no way in hell that I can keep it down. When he hits that spot especially.

I'm in the middle of my orgasm, riding my future husband in the rocking chair, when one of Gaige's teammates bursts into the room looking ready to save whomever is being murdered.

“Uh. Whoops. I'm so sorry. I thought there was trouble. I didn't know where you two were. What the hell?” Jaq starts off apologetic, then sounds confused.

I don't really have to cover up, since my back is to the door, but Gaige does it for me anyway by pulling my chest to his while I giggle into his neck.

“Jaq. A moment now that you know everyone is safe? Please.” he tacks on at the end.

“Sure thing, Rise” Jaq answers with Gaige's nickname as he looks everywhere but at us as he backs out of the nursery.

“Guess it's time to tell everyone the news.” I muse at Gaige.

  “I believe it is, Bloodfeather.”

“You know, we've been together for almost a year now, and I've never questioned why you call me that.” I look into his eyes searchingly.

“It's the song that was playing when you punched me in the face. You may have broken my nose that night, but you pierced my heart, just like the song talks. I'd follow you anywhere and kill for you.”

With that, I kiss him fiercely, and instead of going down to tell our friends our happy news, I convince him into a second round.

  We'll announce our blessings after.

  About the Author

Linz Lenay loves the escape that a book can give to someone. One day her two best friends along with her husband encouraged her to make her own world, due to running out of things to read on her shelf. (Even though her list is a million miles long.) She is also a meme-addict who loves to laugh.

Linz lives in Northeastern Pennsylvania with her husband and two furmonsters. In her spare time, when she’s not reading or writing, she loves watching hockey (she's a Chicago Blackhawks, Vegas Golden Knights, and Binghamton Devils fan), movies and spending time with her family and friends, especially for game nights.
