Sveyn walked into the waiting room on legs that felt as solid as pickled herring to announce the birth of his nine-pound four-ounce son to the assembled crowd. He was completely astounded by the entire experience and still in somewhat of a daze.
Hollis’s dad Ian stood up first. “Is he here?”
Sveyn grinned. “Yes. And he’s huge.”
A beaming Brianne clasped her hands together. “I’m a grandmother!”
George helped Stevie to stand and laid his hand over her swelling belly. “Now you can tell me all about an experience, for a change!”
Miranda, newly engaged to a widower with two children whom she met on Match Point, grabbed her fiancé’s hand. “Isn’t this exciting? I’m an honorary auntie.”
Sveyn watched the beloved group of friends and family members now chatting excited about the birth of his son. He looked down at his father’s ring. A centuries-old ring that would someday be passed to baby Ian.
Like this ring, my life’s path took an unusual route, getting lost for a long time.
But now the ring had finally come back to where it belonged. Sveyn smiled and said a silent and sincere prayer of thanks.
I am where I belong as well.
