Axel chuckles, not moving his attention from me as he says, “I’ll call you later, Dad.”
His dad walks away, a door slamming somewhere, signaling he’s left.
The air stills as Axel steps forward. “What are you doing, Vi?”
“Surprise?” I croak, moving my arms out beside me. “I’m back.”
“You’re back?” he asks, stalking toward me.
I nod. “I got your letter and I accept.”
“You accept?” He raises a brow as he comes to a stop a few inches away, not one part of his body touching mine.
“Your girlfriend proposal: I accept.”
He chuckles, shaking his head, his eyes lighting up before he frowns. “I know it’ll be hard with you in L.A.—”
“I won’t be in L.A.,” I tell him, closing the distance between us. “I just got offered a job here in New York.”
He lifts his hands, cupping either side of my face. “You did?”
“Mmmhmm, I’m the newest employee of FGT Publishing; they want me to illustrate their books.”
My lips lift into a grin when I think about the call I had while I was riding the elevator.
I started the day with a job in a pet store and I’m ending it with my dream career about to get started and an Adonis for a boyfriend. Check me out!
“No way.”
“Yes way.”
He smiles wide, a genuine smile that says so much more than any of his words ever could. “I knew you’d make it back here.”
“Back where?” I ask, lifting up on my tiptoes as he tilts his head down.
“Back in my arms.”
I laugh at his corniness, placing my lips on his and getting caught up in all that is Axel before he throws me down on the bed. Only this time there’ll be no throwing up. Only orgasms. Lots and lots of orgasms.
