“No,” I pushed at her. “He didn’t tell me.” I growled as I stood up and began to walk toward the hallway in the back that led to the bathrooms. Before I disappeared down the hall, I turned back to where Tiff had been. She was no longer there, and neither was Mason. Dev and Sam were deep in a heated discussion, I’m sure about me. A slight panic rose as I scanned the room for Tiff. I didn’t know how I could have lost her in that siren’s outfit she was wearing. When my eyes found her again, pure rage rose up in me.
She was out on the dance floor in Mason’s arms. His chest was pressed against her back, and she had her hands above her head, looped around his neck. His hands were holding her hips as she ground her ass on his dick. Sweat was beading on both their foreheads as the beat of the music thumped through the room. I couldn’t help but stare as I watched them. Tiff had pulled most of her hair up, but with the dancing, some had fallen down. Her top sparkled under the strobe lights as she gyrated to the beat. “Fucking A,” I hissed. It was painful watching her and not being able to do anything.
My hands fisted at my side as I watched her turn to face him. Her hands trailed down his chest as she said something causing him to laugh. She smiled, and it was beautiful. I’d never been able to give her these moments, and watching her have them here with someone else made the green monster within me rise. I should be the one giving her this. I should be the one holding her. But you’re not asshole, I chastised. It was my fault that she was with Mason tonight. It could have been me if I wasn’t so screwed up.
“She doesn’t want him,” Dev’s voice was low, behind me, causing me to jerk in reaction.
“What the fuck are you doing?” I growled without turning around.
“Saving your ass,” Dev muttered. “We’re going to leave here in a minute. I’m giving her a ride home. Find a way to get away from your goons for a few hours and fix this mess you’ve created.”
“I can’t do that. You know this,” I hissed. “What about procedure?”
“Fuck, Jase!” Dev growled. “I know what you should be doing, but you haven’t been around the last three weeks. I’ve watched her blame herself for all the things that aren’t her fault. You both need to talk, and who knows when you’ll be out?”
“Why are you giving her a ride home?” I started to look over my shoulder but stopped myself as I continued to stare at Tiff. She had her arms around his neck now, and was leaning closer to shout something in Mason’s ear.
“She fucking walked here,” Dev groaned. “Ten minutes. We’re leaving in ten minutes.” He disappeared as fast as he had appeared, leaving me standing there, staring at her.
Tiff reached up and wrapped her hands around Mason’s neck as his head bent, and all I could see was red. If he fucking kissed her, I was not going to be able to stand by and just watch. Everything in me was telling me to turn around and go back to Jeremy and the rest of the group. I couldn’t break cover. I couldn’t be with her. I couldn’t let the last three weeks go down the tube. If I needed to get laid that bad, one of the women at our table would happily help me. I could have any of them, I’d done it before. Training won out, and before I could see if Mason followed through, I turned and went back to the group.
“Where the fuck have you been?” Mitch stared up at me as the woman on his left whined in protest. I’d taken his attention away from her, and she was not happy.
“Had to take a leak. Do you need the play by play?” I snickered as I sat down.
“Jer’s ready to leave. Buyer didn’t show. He’s pretty pissed.” Mitch lowered his voice as he pushed the woman on his right away. “Move Bitch!” he sneered as she pouted and stood up giving me more space.
I nodded as I straightened my jacket and stood. Jeremy was scowling as Malcolm tried to reason with him. Simon had stayed behind tonight. He was going to be traveling in the morning; I’m sure Jer was worried about the reaction he was going to get when we returned to base with our product still in hand. Si didn’t like hiccups in the plan, and that was just what we’d had.
“I think I might meet you guys in the morning,” I mused and Mitch’s face dropped.
“Boss ain’t gonna like that,” he warned.
“I don’t give a fuck,” I growled. “I got shit to do, and Si can wait for once.”
“You haven’t been around long enough to call the shots yet.” Mitch narrowed his eyes. “What’s important? You meet some tail in the head that you failed to mention?”
I decided this was as good a reason as any, and jumped into the story. “What if I did?” I grinned as I shrugged a shoulder.
“You dog.” Mitch punched my arm. “You fuck some tail in there and now you want more?”
“Shut up.” I pushed him back. “Tell Jer I’ll be at the meet in the morning. I’ll have what he needs, and hopefully be in a better mood,” I smirked as I turned and bolted for the back door. I was being stupid and irresponsible, but the fuck if I cared at the moment. The chance that I was taking could get me killed, but for some reason, it seemed worth it tonight.
ooooooooo
Tiffany
“Let’s go,” Dev tapped me on shoulder right as I was getting ready to lose myself in Mason. We’d been dancing pretty heated for the last several minutes, and I really wasn’t in the mood to be interrupted.
“I’m not ready to go,” I shot back as I tried to recapture the mood that Dev was so determined to break.
“Let’s go!” He growled more forcefully as his eyes left mine and connected with Mason’s. Mason’s body stilled and the carefree smile on his face faded as fast as my anger was rising.
“No,” I tried to turn us away from Dev. “He doesn’t get to do this. Not now.”
“I think we better go,” Mason sighed as he reached up and removed my arms from around his neck. He held onto one hand as he began following Dev toward the front door. The farther away we moved from Jase, the angrier I got.
Sam met us right outside, and as she draped my coat over my shoulders to ward off the chilly air, Mason directed me to Dev’s truck. “I can walk,” I snapped as I pulled back from him. “If you don’t want to take me home, I can walk!” The alcohol I’d had was making me brave, and remembering the woman on Jase’s lap was fueling my anger.
“You’re not walking in this neighborhood. Now get in the damn truck!” Dev growled as he yanked open the door and Sam climbed in and slid over leaving room for me. Her face held understanding as she waited for me to comply. “Don’t test me,” Dev warned. “I’ve had enough of Jase’s bullshit tonight.”
At the mention of Jase, my heart cracked a little and the anger started to slip. I didn’t know what I wanted to feel at the moment, but not feeling anything wasn’t possible. I was hurt that Jase would do that in front of me, even if it was part of his cover. I was angry that I couldn’t do anything about it.
It hurt that he felt he couldn’t let me in, but then the anger would resurface telling me that he never really loved me anyway. My heart and head couldn’t decide what to feel, and as Mase helped me into the truck, I finally gave in and let the tears free.
“Just take me home,” I sniffed as Dev closed the door. “I’m sorry,” I mouthed before Mase turned toward his parking spot. He waved and shook his head as Dev rounded the front of the truck before jumping in and shaking his head.
“I fucking knew this was a bad idea,” he muttered as he brought the truck to life. Sam put her hand on his arm, causing him to sigh and shake his head his head again. “I’m sorry you had to see that,” he looked over at me. “Sometimes, when we’re on the job, we have to do things that we don’t like. We can’t break cover, and sometimes that means flirting and other stuff,” he murmured.
“Does it mean fucking other women when you’re with someone?” I mocked.
Dev paused, “Sometimes...yes.”
I saw Sam straighten as the words hung in the air. “Have you?” I swallowed. It wasn’t really any of my business, but they were so in love. They were married, and I wondered if
anything was sacred anymore.
“No,” Dev whispered. “I had to get pretty close one time, but I managed to get myself out of the situation. Sometimes, it’s not that easy though.” I watched Sam relax as Dev navigated out of the parking lot, and turned toward my building.
He soon pulled up at my door, and Sam turned to look at me, “You want me to walk you up?”
“I’m fine,” I opened the door and paused. “You two enjoy your night without a kid around. Go make more babies. Don’t worry about me,” I slipped from the truck and removed my shoes before walking up the stairs barefoot. My feet hurt, and all I wanted to do was take a hot shower and climb into bed. I had the day off tomorrow, and I was going to use it to eat ice cream and watch reality TV all day. Sam waved as the truck pulled away, and I took the long climb to the third floor.
When I reached my door, I fumbled with my keys in the dark. The light by my door was out, and the street lights helped very little. The door squeaked open, but when I stepped through, an eerie feeling settled over me. I stood frozen as I let my eyes adjust to the darkness. As soon as I turned to lock my door, I saw movement out of the corner of my eye. A figure moved lightning quick and paused behind me. His body pressed into my back as his hand covered my mouth, preventing me from screaming.
“Shhh,” he whispered in my ear. “It’s me.”
I sagged in relief as the fear quickly left me, leaving behind the anger I’d fought back all night. I struggled against him, and he slowly loosened his grip but didn’t release me completely.
“Get out!” I hissed as I thrashed in his arms. “Get the fuck out of my house!”
“Have you fucked him,” his voice was low as his grip tightened once again. My body melted against his chest as the smell of liquor and spicy cologne filled my senses. I was fighting against what my body wanted. My brain told me Jase was here for a booty call. He was going to do the same thing he always did... tell me he couldn’t give me a future, fuck me, and then leave. He wasn’t going to give me what I wanted... his heart.
“Did you let him put his hands on you?” His nose trailed up the column of my neck and his breath feathered across my ear. I trembled against his body. “He can’t make you beg like I can.” One of his palms flattened on my stomach and slowly began to slide down. As his fingers breached the waistband of my pants, I released a frustrated groan.
“He can’t make you come like I can.” His voice became harsher as a finger brushed across my clit, a jolt of desire to spreading through me. “His finger can’t do this.” He flicked me once again as his other arm banded tighter around me. “Did you let him touch you like I do? Did you like it?” He taunted as his finger sunk into me. My legs wobbled as my eyes rolled closed. I was trying to stay angry. Trying to push back the desire he was coaxing out of me, but I wanted him to want me so badly that my will to fight him off had all but disappeared. “Answer me!” he growled as he began walking backward. My feet stumbled as he made his way to my bathroom pulling me along with him.
“Nnnn... no.” I whimpered when his hand disappeared, leaving me right on the edge of where I truly wanted to be. His trademark smirk appeared as he snickered.
“Good. He won’t be giving you what you want, only me,” he reached for me, but I’d finally found my anger, and I batted his hand away.
“Fuck you!” I growled as I attempted to slap him. “You don’t get to do this,” I waved my arms around like a mad woman. I was pissed. How dare he think he could come in here and tell me what to do? “You had your fucking chance. You walked away, and then you had the nerve to parade some skank around in front of me,” I shoved him. “Get out!”
“I’m not fucking going anywhere until you listen to me.” He grabbed my wrist and spun me so he had me pressed against the wall. His rock hard chest pinned me in, and as he leaned closer, I began to see the man from the club, and not Jase.
“I’m under cover. I can’t be me when I’m under cover. I don’t get to choose when I turn it on and off,” he hissed as he leaned closer. You saw fucking Max in there. Is that who you want? Max? I can be him all day, baby, if that’s who you want.”
The desire that he’d let through moments ago melted away and the hard exterior shell from the club came back. The man with no feelings that let the whore touch him appeared right before my eyes. His movements became forced and rigid, and his eyes became emotionless. “If he’s who you want,” he leaned back slightly, “just say the word.”
Tears welled in my eyes. It hurt to see him like this. My head was spinning so fast, and I didn’t know how to stop it. “All I want is a future. I want you and me in the future,” I cried, the tears falling down my cheeks. His face softened immediately, as Jase came back and Max disappeared.
“I’m trying,” his sighed as he stepped back and gripped his neck. “God, I’m trying so fucking hard. You don’t understand.” He shook his head before closing the gap once again. “No one does.”
“Help me understand; I want to so much. Please?” I begged as I cupped his jaw.
He leaned into my touch as his eyes fluttered closed. His voice came in a ragged whisper as his body leaned even closer to mine. “I didn’t fuck her.” He opened his eyes and stared at me, making sure I understood what he was saying.
“That girl? I didn’t fuck her. Hell, I didn’t even touch her really; I just made it look like I was. I can’t turn it off that easy, not with anyone else anyway,” he muttered before he covered my mouth with his. I melted into him once again and we began tearing at each other’s clothes.
“You smell like her,” I whispered against his lips as I fought with his belt buckle. “Cheap perfume and cigarettes,” I grumbled as I finally freed the metal and yanked it from the loops of his pants.
“Let’s fix that then,” he mumbled, leading us into the bathroom and reaching blindly into the shower. It hissed as the water surged out and we waited for steam to fill the bathroom. I laughed lightly as he smiled before tugging his shirt over his head.
“Not a fan of the beard,” I mumbled as I tossed the rest of my clothes to the side.
“Sorry. Beard has to stay. Part of the cover,” he shrugged.
The room soon filled with steam, signaling the water was hot, and Jase pulled back the curtain before helping me inside. He groaned as the warm water ran over him before tipping his chin down to stare at me. “Been a long time since I’ve gotten a hot shower.”
I frowned as I watched him. He seemed worried about something, and after the fight we’d just had, I wasn’t sure I wanted to pick at another scab. “What’s wrong?” I whispered as I placed my hand on his chest.
“I can’t stay long.” His face looked pained as he watched me. “It’s not that I don’t want to; I can’t.”
“I understand.” I didn’t really. I didn’t know how he was able to get here. I didn’t know what he was doing, or anything else about this case.
“No, you don’t,” he sighed. “I’m supposed to be with a woman I met at the club,” he looked away from me. “That’s what I told them I was doing. Getting laid,” he clarified. “I can only stay until morning. It would look suspicious if I stayed longer.”
I nodded as I leaned in closer and pressed my lips to his neck. I felt the hum of pleasure as he stumbled to get his footing when I trailed my hand down his abs and gripped his cock. He was hard and throbbing. “Let’s see if we can make part of your story true,” I murmured as I stroked him.
“Fuck, I’ve missed you,” he groaned as he cupped my head, tilting me so he could claim my lips. His tongue swept in, leaving me breathless as the orgasm he’d left hanging slowly came back to life. I moaned as I rose on my tiptoes and tightened my grip on his cock. He turned us, and before I could figure out what he was doing, he lifted me into his arms and pressed my back into the tile of the shower.
“Jase?” I panted as my fingers threaded through his hair. “I need you inside me now,” I panted as my forehead touched his.
“I don’t have a fucking condo
m,” he growled as his cock rubbed against me. “Fuck!”
“Have you done anything where you would be worried?” I paused as I stared into this eyes.
He blinked a few times before the word fell from his lips, “No.”
“I’m on the shot; I trust you.” I cupped his jaw as I sealed my mouth over his. The kiss was slow at first, but as I coaxed him back to life, he slowly lost hold of his control. He lifted me slightly higher before sliding inside me and groaning as he sunk deeper and stilled himself. He was pulsing with need. I could feel it, and as I rocked my hips forward, he came to life.
“Shit, that feels,” he swallowed as he ground his hips into mine, “so fucking amazing.” I giggled as I yanked on his hair, causing his head to tilt back.
“Fuck me like you mean it,” I taunted. “We’ll be gentle the next time. Show me you want me, Jase.” I pulled harder and he snapped. His hips began slamming into me and his hands tightened their grip on my hips. I was sure I would have bruises, but I didn’t care. The slapping of wet skin and the hiss of the shower could barely be heard over our shouts and praises of one another. It had been too long, and when we came together, I saw stars as the present faded out, and the fantasy that I’d been dreaming of surged to the forefront of my mind.
“I love you.” The words slipped out without me even thinking about it. Jase froze, causing me to realize what I’d done.
“You don’t mean that,” he murmured as he lowered me to the ground. He reached around me and turned off the water. “You can’t.”
“I do. I know you think something terrible is going to happen to me if you let me in, but I love you.” My voice shook as I watched him, waiting for him to look at me. He’d paused after turning off the water and was now standing there, the water dripping from his sculpted body.
“People that love me die, Tiff. It’s not just something bad happening, they die.” He glanced over his shoulder, and I didn’t see the Jase I’d come to know. All I saw was the kid who lost his parents. I knew very little about Jase’s past, but I knew he’d had to grow up fast.
