"You know what? If Paul really loves you he'll understand. If not fuck it."
"I thought you were on Paul's side?" Queen asked confused.
"Don't get shit twisted. I'm on your side, plain and simple. Men will come and go, but you'll always be my girl. And I want you to be happy. So do what you need to do. Don't let anybody steal your joy because they're unhappy. You understand?"
"Yeah."
"Okay, so go down there and tell each one of them what's up, starting with Logic. If he got a problem fuck him! Give him back his ring and then pull Paul to the side and talk to him. There are three gorgeous hunks of very rich chocolate down there. Trust me, one of them loves you enough to look past the fact that you're a hoe." Jade declared as she finished her speech with a good laugh.
Queen laughed with her. She had to laugh to keep from crying. But she knew that Jade was right. Still she loved them all and she really didn't want to see them hurt. Hopefully they could see past her bullshit to forgive her, especially Logic. She didn't want to lose him again.
~*~*~
Queen took Jade's advice. She went downstairs and pulled Logic to the side. One by one she'd isolate them and confess her deception and indiscretions. Then she'd pray for the best, that's all she could do. Hopefully the three of them wouldn't start acting like angry baboons and destroy her parents’ home as they attempted to tear each other apart.
"Logic can you help me with my desk?"
"Sure?" Logic replied as he followed Queen out of the family room and up to her bedroom.
Logic looked apprehensive as they entered Queen's room. It had been a very long time since he had been in her bedroom. They often made love there when they were in high school. He was sure that was not the reason she lured him there today. Uneasy he set on Queen's bed. He was silent as he watched Queen lock the door. He didn't know what to say or what to think. After all, in his mind Queen needed to talk to Paul not him.
"I need to tell you something."
Logic drew a deep breath and sighed. "Okay, what's up?"
"I love you. No I take that back, I'm in love with you. But..." Queen suddenly lost her nerve and stopped speaking.
"Go ahead and continue. But what?"
"I need to tell you something and you're not going to like it much. Well actually you're not going to like it at all."
"Queen, you're killing me. Just say what's on your mind and get it over with."
This time it was Queen's turn to be nervous. "I slept with Bear." She blurted out. Logic remained silent and virtually emotionless as she continued. "I was angry and confused and vindictive and I slept with Teddy to get back at Paul."
"When?"
"About a week after I first made love to you."
"Was it once or what?"
"It was more than once."
"Is it over, or are you still involved with him?"
"It's over now. We didn't want Paul to find out about us so we stopped."
"So, I wasn't enough for you?" He calmly asked still not showing any emotion.
"Logic you know that's not true. I did it because I wanted to hurt Paul. And I did it because I was afraid to allow you to get too close to me. Now, I'm not saying that I didn't want to, because I did. But I didn't think I could ever trust a man again, so I did it because I just didn't give a damn. But I didn't do it to hurt you. I didn't think you'd ever find out. It was a stupid, selfish thing to do and I'm sorry."
"So why are you telling me this now?"
Queen holds up her hand so Logic could see her ring. "I don't want this to be based on a lie. I know that you didn't know this when you asked me to marry you. So if you want to change your mind then I'll understand."
"Queen, I knew about Teddy. I just didn't say anything." He confessed.
"How did you find out?"
"It was the soap."
"What about the soap?" Queen asked confused.
"You smelled like the soap that Teddy uses and not your body wash. You'd leave with your skin smelling one way and you'd come back smelling another. It's not rocket science. Plus I see how he looks at you. I saw it the first day I met him. In fact I thought you were sleeping with him then."
"Why didn't you say anything?"
"What was I suppose to say? Technically you didn't belong to either of us. I didn't want to jeopardize what little piece of you I had. So, I let it go. It hurt like hell, but I let it go."
"I'm so sorry. Are you mad?" Queen asked as she sat next to him on the bed.
"Oh yeah I'm mad. Mad as hell. I'm mad as hell about you. Don't think you're getting away from me that easy. Fuck Teddy!" Logic joked as he wrestled Queen to her back stealing a kiss. "I thought you had changed your mind. I was scared shitless."
"I was the one that was scared. I thought you were going to be pissed and call off the engagement."
"You were scared I was going to take back your ring, weren't you?" He laughed.
"Oh you are not getting this ring back under no circumstance." Queen laughed with him as she rolled into the top position. She straddled Logic's waist with her thighs as she sampled his lips and kissed him with fire and passion. "I love you. And I'd love to be your wife. And to answer your earlier question, yes I'm extremely happy."
"I love you too Mye Queen. I've always loved you and I always will. Nothing you do will change that." Logic said as he stared deep into Queen's eyes. "So what are we going to do now?"
"I got to talk to Paul and Teddy and let them know about us." Queen sighed.
"I thought you already talked to Teddy."
"I did but I didn't tell him that I was sleeping with you."
"He didn't know about me?"
"Of course he didn't. I didn't want him holding that over my head in case I went back to Paul. Actually, Bear's been a good friend to me. I shouldn't have seduced him. I jeopardized his friendship with Paul. So, I owe him an apology."
"Okay well let's get it over with."
~*~*~
Queen didn't want it to appear obvious to her parents or Paul that she was conducting exit interviews. Teddy was next and she employed Logic's help to bring him to her dad's study. He appeared confused as he opened the door and saw her waiting for him there.
"Queen needs to talk to you man." Logic casually replies.
"Okay, thanks man." He said as he entered the room.
"Hey Bear come in and sit down. I need to talk to you."
"What's going on Mye Queen?" He asked as he took a seat.
Queen drew a deep cleansing breath to relax before she spoke. "Bear I'm sorry that I seduced you. I shouldn't have put you in that position and placed myself between you and Paul. I let my hormones and my emotions put your friendship with him in danger. That was wrong and I'm sorry. I just want you to know that he will never find out about us from me."
"So, it's true. I guess you two are getting back together again. Paul told me it looked promising."
"Not exactly."
"I don't understand."
"I'm afraid Paul and I are not reconciling."
"If you're not going back to Paul then what is all of this about? We've already been through this. I told you not to sweat it."
"Bear, I've been sleeping with Logic since I moved into his condo. I'm sorry."
"Okay, so what are you trying to say?"
"Bear, I just said that I was sleeping with Logic while we were together."
"Queen, I'm not stupid. I know that."
"How did you know? And please don't say soap."
"Logic's bed was slept in on both sides."
"So what?"
"Queen, there's no man on this planet that's going to lay next to that big butt of yours and not rub against it. If you weren't down with it then you would have slept in the other room. Yet, you continued to sleep in Logic's bedroom. What else would I think."
"So, you're not mad."
"Why should I be? You weren't my girl. You told me up front that it was just sex. I'm a big boy, Queen, no pun intended. I'm okay with it. Bu
t I do appreciate your discretion with keeping this from Paul. He's not going to be so understanding about me sleeping with his girl."
"I'm no longer his girl Bear. I haven't been since he had sex with Zoey."
"Queen you know that wasn't his fault."
"I know it wasn't and if it wasn't for Logic I'd take him back. But I'm in love with Logic. I've always been in love with him. That incident with Zoey just made me realize it."
"Love or not I think you're making a big mistake. Paul is in love with you. Hell he wants to marry you one day."
"I'm afraid that's not going to happen. I'm already engaged." Queen said as she showed Teddy her engagement ring.
"What the fuck? Logic asked you to marry him?" Teddy asked stunned. "Queen it's too soon for this bullshit. Don't do this. It'll fuck up your life."
"We're not getting married until I finish Medical School. You don't know this but Logic and I have been together on and off since the sixth grade. If I wasn't really in love with him and if I didn't think it would work then I wouldn't have said yes."
"Queen, Paul is going to fuck Logic up when he finds this shit out. And you know what I'm going to help him." Teddy confessed.
"No he's not and no you're not. You don't get to choose who I love. This is my choice, Bear. You two are my friends. I'm not asking you to like it. I'm just asking that you don't let it come between us. So, if you want to go like that then you'd better be ready to fuck me up too, because I'm not going to let you hurt him." Queen's voice began to crack.
"Okay, calm down. Don't get all upset and start crying. Nobody's going to do anything to your Boo." Teddy teased as he pulled her into his arms and rubbed her back to comfort her. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you cry Mye Queen. You know how I feel about you. I would never do anything to hurt you. So stop crying. Everything will be okay. Do you want me to talk to Paul for you."
"Thanks, but he needs to hear this from me. I just hope he doesn't hate me after I tell him."
"He loves you too much to hate you Queen. It'll hurt but he's not going to blame you. He knows the circumstances behind it. He'll be okay."
"I hope you're right."
"If not I'm sure Zoey will be happy to offer him some more of that good old southern comfort." Teddy joked.
Queen snickered and punched Teddy in his arm. "See that's not even funny, Bear."
"Yeah it is." Teddy laughed.
"You're right. It is kind of funny."
Although Teddy's words were comforting, Queen knew that the task ahead of her wasn't going to be an easy one. Paul had been jealous of Logic since the second they met. And it didn't help that Logic announced that his one and only objective in Atlanta was to win Queen back. Now it rested on Queen to tell him that Logic's mission had been accomplished. And she was convinced that he wasn't going to be too happy about it.
~*~*~
Thus far Queen had gotten off fairly easy. Probably because nothing she said came as a real surprise to either Logic or Teddy. Sure, they were aware that she was sleeping with both of them. Did they care? Hell no! They were happy to scrounge whatever morsel of Queen's love that they could manage to salvage. Besides they both understood that Queen was a free agent who was merely exercising her right to shop around for a better contract.
Sometimes it's simply a matter of being in the right place at the right time to take full advantage of an opportunity. And both Logic and Teddy wanted to make sure that they stayed on Queen's good side just in case she decided to switch teams. In the end it paid off big for Logic. He got his Queen back.
Queen decided that it would probably be more humane to break the news to Paul after dinner. After all, he had just traveled almost seven hundred miles to see her. The least she could do was to let him enjoy some of her mom's home cooking. And what a home cooked meal it was. Mrs. Queen had threw down the gauntlet. She prepared a lavish spread of fried chicken, potato salad, candy yams, collard greens, ham, corn on the cob, macaroni and cheese and corn bread. Not to mention she baked an assortment of deserts including sweet potato pie and chocolate cake. Needless to say the men where in hog heaven and the women were stuck in hell's kitchen.
"Queen, look in that refrigerator and see do I have some cream cheese so that I can make a cheese cake. If not you might have to run to the store." She said as she checked on her pies in the oven.
"Ma this is more than enough food. And the last thing that I want to do is to run to the store. We've been in this kitchen for almost two hours. Let's just eat."
"You think that I want to be in here cooking all of this food?"
"Yes, as a matter of fact I do, because you love it. I on the other hand don't."
"Queen, take a good look in that family room and tell me how many of those men out there belong to me."
"Uh oh! We're about to get with it now." Jade teased.
"Ma I wasn't..."
"Answer the question Queen."
"One."
"Okay, so how many of those men are here for you?"
"Ma..."
"Don't Ma me, Queen. I don't want to hear nothing but the answer to the question that I asked you."
"Okay, two."
"Mye Beloved Queen, you better stop playing with me and tell the damn truth."
"Not good. She used your whole name, so you know you’re in trouble." Jade instigated.
"Alright, three."
"So if three of the four of those big hungry men out there belong to you then why are you complaining. I should be the one with my ass on my back and my lips stuck out. Right?"
"Yes, mam."
"Okay, now do I have some cream cheese in there or not?"
Queen pulled the cream cheese out of the refrigerator. She took it to her mom and kissed her on the cheek. "I'm sorry Ma. I'm a little stressed out."
"I guess you are trying to juggle three dicks at one time. I don't even know how you can walk."
Jade laughed so hard she spit the sweet ice tea that she was drinking right out of her mouth and across the room. "Oh my God! I can't believe she just said that."
"Ma, discretion is the word for the day. Please just keep that in mind the next time you feel the need to say anything along that line." Queen pleaded as she shook her head in disbelief.
"Ouch! Momma Queen is on fire today." Jade laughed.
"And little Miss Jade what's so funny? Why is she juggling three and you haven't produced one?"
"Oh snap! It's about to get really hot up in this kitchen now. Momma Queen is calling them like she see them." Queen sarcastically teased.
"I know you don't have anything to say Ms. Queen, because you got one hell of a mess brewing in that living room. The three of them looking like they all lost their damn puppy. Got them, panting and drooling every time that big ass of yours comes in the room. Girl don't even get me started."
"Okay ma. I know. This wasn't suppose to go down like this. And certainly not here. I'm doing my best to handle it. Just cut me a little slack. It's not easy."
"Baby I know it's not easy. But like I told you before, your actions have consequences. So, you need to be careful with peoples’ feelings."
Before Queen could answer she spotted Paul leaving the family room and heading towards her in the kitchen.
"Hey, what do you need?" She asked as he approached.
"Actually, I need to talk to you if you can sneak away. I thought maybe we could take a ride."
"Sure, but can we talk after dinner. I want to finish up in here and I thought we'd have a little more time..."
"Go ahead Queen. Jade can help me with the rest. We're almost done anyway." Mrs. Queen interrupted.
Queen could tell by Paul's sad, hazel, puppy dog eyes that he wanted to talk about their relationship. She realized that postponing it was not going to change the outcome. Plus, she was tired of carrying the burden of it like a gigantic stone around her neck. One which joked the very life out of her every single time she thought about him.
"Okay, well come with me." She said as she
lead him outside to the deck.
~*~*~
Queen was a little leery about taking Paul outside to talk. But the deck was secluded and they could talk freely. Just as they stepped on the deck Paul pulled Queen in his arms and kissed her. But this time Queen did not yield. She refused to allow his tongue entrance. This alarmed him.
"Is everything okay?" He asked as he searched her eyes for a reason for the brush off. "You're not mad at me because I came up to see you are you?"
"No I'm not mad at you at all." She calmly replied as she slipped out of his arms and took a seat at the patio table. "Come sit down let's talk."
Paul looked puzzled. This was a Queen that he was not use to. She seemed eerily calm and at the same time somewhat cold and callous. Suddenly he wasn't sure if he still wanted to have this conversation. But it was too late to change his mind now.
"I called you last night, but you didn't answer."
"Yeah I know we were at Logic's parents’ home at a dinner party." Queen responded.
"So when you say we who are you referring to?"
"Me and my parents. I couldn't answer my phone. I'm sorry."
"I left you a message. Why didn't you call me back?"
"You know that's kind of a funny story. Not ha- ha, funny, but more like strange funny."
"How so?" Paul asked confused.
"Well, I saw that I had messages. And wow... I had a whole slew of messages."
"Yeah, I bet you did." Paul laughed. "And I bet ninety percent of them where from me."
"Actually almost all of them where from you. I didn't listen to any of your messages after that day. Hell, I couldn't bear to hear your voice. But last night I decided to bite the bullet and listen to them. And in retrospect I really wished that I had just deleted them."
"Why? I poured my heart out to you on that phone. I almost lost my damn mind when you left me. Hell, half the time I called your phone just to hear your voice."
"Yeah I know, but this is the thing. My voicemail plays messages from the oldest to the newest. So in order to hear your last message I had to go through all the numerous other messages. Which was okay, even though there were over seventy messages? The strange thing is that your very first message was the day of the incident. And you know I really didn't want to hear twenty minutes of that bullshit, so I almost deleted it."
