Chapter Forty-One
First stop was to the Vulpus Clan village a couple miles away from where the foxling Parvulus’s people resided. The welcome was not warm but once the Foxling explained what they were there for and the villagers laughed a bit they were allowed to continue on their way.
“It would seem that no one thinks we can beat Regem Ligno.” Dante said to no one in particular.
Parvulus shook his head “Of course not! How can one expect to kill the god of the forest? Even in the legends of the undying people they would only be able to kill it for a short amount of time before it returned as strong as ever. When the undying ones left none who faced our God Regem Ligno has survived. It’s protected our forest and even kept the clans of the Ibis and Vulpus from going to war.”
Cringing at the thought of possibly creating a war due to his actions Dante said nothing further as they trekked along behind their young guide. Parvulus as they had learned the foxlings name was seemed like a young pup that Dante could only guess was in his mid-teens. His people though seemingly unamused by his youthful antics otherwise had treated him as an adult when he presented the group to the clan. Seemingly aborigine of these parts Dante could not remember any mention of their people in the lore of the elven lands and could only guess that they might have sprung up over time from some other creature of the forest.
A coolness settled over the forest as night fell and the party made camp. Still unsure of their guide Terrance insisted that the group would take the responsibility of the watch that night while making sure to pair himself up with Dante for the second shift. Just as Parvulus has said though nothing and no one bothered them that night as they slept or the next day of travel. They’d all grown more comfortable with their new friend and treated him as one of the group. Curious was a good word to describe the pup as he tended to ask a lot of questions of each member. It seemed his people led a sheltered life in the forest and their only interaction other than their own clan member was with occasional territory skirmishes with the Ibis clan.
Parvulus knew of elves but his people had not met any since the Adventurers or undying as his people called them left. He spoke of them shifting to hiding closer to their own towns and staying out of the forests seemingly afraid of it. This confused Dante since lore dictated that the elves pretty much lived for the forest and nature as a whole. His only real guess was that when the Adventurers left nature became too wild for the elves and they took shelter where they felt safe.
It was two days of leisurely travel and camping out until they reached the temple grounds where Regem Ligno resided. Parvulus did his best to dissuade the group from their current actions having become close friends with them and wanting to learn more about the world outside of the forest.
Waiting until now Dante finally pulled Parvulus aside and spoke to him alone “I get the feeling you enjoy our company and that you would like to continue on with us. I promise we will not fail our task. Regardless of what you were taught Regem Ligno is not a God and we were sent here to release its spirit back to the aether so it may begin anew in the cycle of life and death.”
Parvulus nodded but Dante could tell he did not believe him and knew that only his actions could prove his point to the young Foxling. Not wanting his friend to get hurt he asked Parvulus to stay back and watch from a safe distance as they battled. Knowing that his newfound friend was safe Dante rallied the group and they entered the temple to see a towering wooden beast exuding yellow and blue lights.
“Have you come to pay homage to your God or to die a swift death?” A voice boomed from the beast.
Inspecting it Dante was not too surprised by its stats:
Legendary Beast Regem Ligno
Level: 102
Health: 413,500/413,500
“Neither,” he responded drawing his weapons “we have come to complete a task set for us by the Gods of this world and we will not leave until it is complete.”
Taking their cue Laurina and Erchik hung back near the wall while Dante and Terrance advanced unleashing attack after attack on the beast. Raging and swiping at them either missing Dante or only meeting Terrance shield and doing little to no damage Regem Ligno lashed out increasingly faster. Soon it was moving faster than the eye could see and it managed to land a few solid hits on Dante and pushed Terrance back with the force of the blows alone. Reaching the one third mark it suddenly stopped attacking and its roots came up to surround it. While covered by the roots its direct health took no hits but each root had its own health bar.
As one root fell another took its place and this pattern repeated for a long time until the group was out of energy and rested to regenerate watching the beast the whole time waiting for any kind of movement. Finally the roots dropped down and where wood and bark and covered the center of the towering round tree there was now a crystalline case held in place by vines with a being something akin to an ent curled up at the center glowing a yellow orange. Seeing that th
ey had activated a second stage the group jumped back into battle mode and attacked with renewed vigor until again after losing another third of its health the creature covered itself with its vines hiding away its center.
This time though some of the vines stay detached from the center and lashed out at its attackers not allowing them a moment of reprieve. The vines though easy to dispatch came out them in waves of five and six and for a solid ten minutes of reactive fighting they kept the group on its toes. Soon the vines that covered the center removed themselves again from their position and now at the center of the crystalline trunk was a larger ent like creature that pulsated a sickly yellow light growing noticeably over time. Not sure about what might happen during the next stage but ready to be done with this beast Dante’s party continued their attacks stopping briefly to regenerate stamina and mana in turns as they worked down the last third of the health bar.
Once the health bar hit zero there was a shattering sound as the crystalline case broke away and the ent like creature stepped out causing Dante to curse aloud upon reading its information.
Legendary Beast Regem Ligno: True Form
Level: 102
Health: 413,500/413,500
“For fucks sake!” He shouted before launching at it with Plight of Chaos, Chaotic Subterfuge, and Core Attack: Annihilation trying to put in a good dent to its overwhelmingly large health bar.
Huffing annoyed at their luck Terrance joined in while Erchik and Laurina followed up with a barrage of spells and arrows. True Form as it had been called had the same amount of health points but had much lower defensive power while also hitting harder. Terrance was only able to take a hit or two through his shield before stepping back by Laurina and Erchik to be healed up. Dante seeing this activated Dominion of Chaos and held its attention with his increased attack power and dodged the attacks from Regem Ligno with ease with his increased speed.
All four of them were relieved when the beast didn’t change form or go into yet another stage as it past first one third of its health and then then halfway mark. They played it safe and kept confusing it with taunting attacks and hard hitting strikes until it finally fell before them.
Congratulations!
You have destroyed the power hidden in the forest of the elves known as Legendary Beast Regem Ligno: True Form. Since you have already received the maximum legendary beast title you will only receive the items, exp, and money normally allotted from this creature.
Rewards: 13,000,000 exp, 4,000,000 gold, +20 Light of Silva Weapon Bundle
Only the one weapon bundle was awarded so everyone left it to Dante who immediately absorbed it into his gear while giving the others his share of the money. He walked over to the doorway which was where he found the stunned and open mouthed Parvulus staring at him.
“Told you we would do it. Though I would not expect Regem Ligno to respawn. Well at least not in any recognizable form. The soul of the legendary beast has been sent on to the aether where it will be recycled and sent back out into the world in a new for as we all will be when our time comes.” Dante said before extending a friendly hand and a party invite. “I wouldn’t mind having you on our team if you think you’d be up for the challenge.”

Chapter Forty-Two
It took Parvulus only a moment to consider the invitation before he accepted though insisting that it would be best if they moved on. Unsure how the rest of his people would react to the news that the being that they once thought of as their God being destroyed at the hands of his new friends. He’d also argued against the shortest route to the Lumin Silva because it cut through the Ibis Clans lands but was shut down by Dante who assured him that should trouble arise from it he would personally take care of it then and there.
All set and ready to return to some form of civilization the party now consisting of the five of them set out through the lands owned by the Ibis Clan. The first few nights they went untouched though both Parvulus and Dante could feel the eyes of someone or something watching them the moment they crossed into the Ibis Clan’s lands. On the fourth night a yellow feathered owl-like person approached them and demanded that they leave. Dante informed the owl-person that they would be out of the lands as soon as they could but that they would not change their course and add more time and travel to their travel just to make some backwoods clan happy.
&nb
sp; Enraged but knowing that the people in Dante’s camp were much more than he or his small hunting party could handle the creature left them. Stomping off into the night grumbling and shouting about bringing their full force of their clan down on them for invading the Ibis Clan’s land. It was another two days of travel before the owl person’s threat come to fruition though.
Standing in a field of colorful flowers rows upon rows of yellow feathered owl people geared up with primitive weapons stood in the small group’s path. Dante stopped counting them when he went over a hundred Ibis Clan Owling people ranging from level fifty to fifty-three. He’d expected as much after seeing the Vulpus Clan.
Taking a deep breath he stepped forward and placed a hand up stopping the others from following him as he raised his voice “I would like to challenge your leader or strongest warrior for the right to pass through these lands unharmed and otherwise unbothered by your people. I do not wish bloodshed but if I must shed your blood I will do so. If you find my threat unwarranted then I ask you to test my words with your blades!”
Chatter could be heard among the clansman until someone stepped forward. It was a larger owl that Dante assumed was the chief of these people. The moment he stepped forward the chatter died down and once it did he spoke “I am Chief Cornu Mag and I will test your words in a one on one duel. The loser’s life is in the hands of the winner.” Then walking to the center of the field with a crude spear in one hand and a worn out looking shield in the other he waited for Dante to do the same.
Parvulus tried to talk Dante out of it looking to the others for help but when they just smiled and shook their heads he gave up and watched in fear as Dante walked out to meet the chief in the center of the clearing for battle.
Offering a polite nod Dante drew only his main weapon and said “Attack whenever you are ready.”
