  Aetherium, (Aetherics): The vast and infinite sea of Aetheric Energy, from which all energy is generated and to where energy returns. See Conceptia.

  Agrarium, (General): The third and largest sector of a Sanctuary District, tended by the Arator class and focused on producing crops.

  Aurania, (General): A planet without axial spin in the planetary System of Europa. The two halves are - Elysia and Shayde.

  Alliance Navy, (General): The Navy of the Shaydean Alliance.

  Amplifier, Aetheric, (Aetherics): A convertor used to take energy from an external source and amplify the output of Aetheric Force.

  Ancient Observance, (Cult): The ancient form of worship of the Unending Eighteen, a time when Benignus and Malignus were worshipped equally.

  Anima, (Biology): The life-force of all living creatures.

  Animaura, (Biology): A field of energy that radiates from all living objects.

  Animus Sutures, (Aetherics): The art of weaving strands of Aether, to stitch flesh together on the Aetheric level, to prevent the discharge of Animaura.

  Aquaticus, (Apocrypha): One of the Five Tears of Concordia. Represents the Liquid State and the Water Realm, and the source of all water throughout Existentia.

  Aquaticus Legion, (Profession): Sanctuary's Maritime Defence Force before its dissolution after the 2nd Schism.

  Arator, (Profession): A field worker in the ranks of the Operarium.

  Arbalest, (General): A high-powered, portable crossbow with a special cranking mechanism for drawing back and releasing the string.

  Arboreal Cleric, (Profession): A vocational decree and order of an Ecclesiast Elder, responsible for being Sanctuary’s time keepers. The arboreal Clerics also had an affinity for vegetation and nature. Arboreal clerics were responsible for maintaining the Arboretum, and resided in the Arboretum, resting under the shade of the trees.

  Arboretum, (General): An orderly ring of planted forest which fills the space between the Curtain wall and the deep waters of the Sanctum Fosse. Fertilised by the ashes of Sanctuary's countless dead.

  Arches of Steel, (General): A formation held by the Forefront Phalanx whenever a Prefect enters or exits the Praetorium.

  Archetype, (Apocrypha): See Unending Eighteen

  Ardenian, (General): An alleged race of powerful, man-flesh eating humanoids that dwell in the depths of Shayde.

  Arkon, (Apocrypha): The 10 embodiments of the Fundamental Thoughts, divided into three groups of three and the governed by the 10th and perfect Arkon.

  Asius, (General): The planetary system, in which the planet of Serica is home to.

  Aspiration, (General): A township governed by the Oligarchs of the Union of Merchants. Located on the central south-western coast of the Hydraen Ocean, primarily focused on mariculture, mining and trade.

  Astral Barge, (General): A structure fitted to the sides of the Astrawhale, designed and created by an unknown race. The Astral Barge is maintained and operated by an onboard automaton.

  Astram Willow, (Plant): A tree with a twisted and multiple branched trunk, with heavy, drooping greenery. Known for the Pitch-Truffles that grow on their roots.

  Astrawhale, (Animal): The tremendous creatures that dive into the Rift, transporting people between realms in their attached Astral Barges.

  Atrium of Kazieri, (Profession): A leading body of the Magistratum. The Atrium of Kazieri meet to discuss the status and progress of the Magistratum.

  Atrox, (Animal): The Epitome of Earth.

  Attamerus, (General): A city founded by Merusul the Unyielding on the exact opposite side of Aurania to Sanctuary. A bastion of reverence to the Old Ways.

  Attaran, (General): An inhabitant of Attamerus. Attarans are closely related to those of Sanctuary, being as they are men and women cast from Sanctuary during the 1st Schism. Pale skin and thick, wavy dark hair is a typical outward feature of the Attarans.

  Attaran Regulars, (General): The Conscripted Army of Attamerus; the backbone of its military.

  Aurum, (General): A golden coloured metal. Extremely dense, yet extremely light. Liquefied when subjected to a long-lost technique.

  Authoritor Legion, (Profession): The Authoritor Legion is responsible for protecting the grounds of Sanctuary and the inhabitants of the Operarium.

  Axiomata, (Apocrypha): The Three Primordial and formless deities - Ordo, Chao and Concordia. The Axiomata are eternal, infinite and lifeless.

  Axle-Load, (Measurement): A standard form of Concordat Weight measurement. See Concordat Weight Measurement Conversion Table.

  Ayldar Order, (Profession): The second of the orders of the Cherishe. Women whose martial prowess and skill in battle surpassed their healing abilities. Known as Sword-Maidens and wore sky-blue dresses. Guard and protect those of the Eir order with their lives.

  Bara, (Shadefiend): A towering, hair and bristle covered carnivorous beast. Powerful paws rip and tear, while menacing jaws crush and maul.

  Bara-Blood, (General): A concoction of strong alcohol and psychosis inducing herbs.

  Barren Heights, the, (Geography): A blackened and charred region of Aurania bordering the Elysia and Shayde, littered with black volcanic rocks and crystals from a long extinct volcano.

  Battle-Bishop, (General): A formidable and heavily armoured warrior-priest of the Right Hand.

  Bay of Sarnak, (Geography): A large bay of the Sea of Aecor that feeds the Partitio River.

  Baygreen, (Plant): A hardy, broad-leafed shrub that grows along the banks of the Bay of Sarnak. Used to reduce the symptoms of fever.

  Belt of Sands, the, (Geography): A ring of desert that borders the Barren Heights.

  Beneficent Nine, (Apocrypha): The Nine Benign Archetypes that sprang forth from the corpse of Abbel.

  Beneficent Path, (Apocrypha): Old Ways precursor to the Way of Lumerus.

  Benignus, (Apocrypha): See Beneficent Nine.

  Black Crown, (General): See Umbra Orbis.

  Black, the, (General): See Blackrot.

  Blackrot, (General): A foul disease that affects harvest crops. Eating foodstuffs tainted with the Black is known to cause all manner of ailments, such as seizures, hallucinations and ulceration of flesh. Said to be spread by Crop-Cursers - either by Hex or by sinister science.

  Blackstone, (General): A strong and resilient stone, that once was spread throughout the land of Aurania, predominantly covering the Montaigne region of the Jagged Ranges. Most of the Blackstone was collected and used in the Construction of the Shield.

  Blood Snake, (Animal): see Sanguinus Venomax

  Blood-Thief, (Hexen): A non-Hexen, who steals or kills to collect blood for Hexen'Darq use.

  Boarding Yards, (Geography): A large open area adjacent to Landsbeach used to board the Astrawhale. The Boarding Yards is surrounded by storage and trade houses.

  Bogmarsh, (Geography): A foggy and misty expanse of rocky terrain, marshlands and blackened peat bogs.

  Bolt-Blaster, (General): A spring powered pistol that fires metal projectiles at high speed. Tensioned by an attachable cranking mechanism. Produced and used by those of Karajan.

  Bonewallis, (Geography): A small township, fortified by the giant bones of a bygone Immanis. The last access to water before crossing the Barren Heights.

  Border Bridge, (Geography): The mighty metallic drawbridge that spans the Partitio River, providing a connection between the Northern Brokerage and Sanctuary. Features a viaduct pipework that provides water from the southern stream into Sanctuary.

  Breach, the, (Geography): A mega contraption used to haul the timber trading sea-vessels to the township of Pinespeak from the Hydraen Ocean.

  Breadth, (Measurement): A standard form of Concordat Length measurement. See Concordat Length Measurement Conversion Table

  Briarsweet Shrub, (Plant): A peculiar ground growth, that is scattered throughout the Great Forest.

  Broach of Regard, (General): A broach produced and awarded by the Serican Imperial Court. Awarded to those who provided aid during the Serican R
ebellions.

  Bulwark, (General): The walls that divide and separate the Districts.

  Buzau, (Animal): A fur covered, stocky, short distance flying insect with vestigial wings, which nest within the caves of the Jagged Ranges.

  Buzau Honey, (Commodity): A thick, sugary and nutritious gel-like substance used by the Buzau to feed their young.

  Cabal of Corruption, (Cult): A dangerous and sinister soldiers’ cult of masochists and sadists, who revere Tyrannous the Depraved. Usually dishevelled, smeared with filth, and apathetical. Carry verses of the Codex Tyranicus attached to their ragged clothes. They do not hide their beliefs, and preach and practice their depravity in full view.

  Caementarius, the, (Profession): Workers of stone, maintaining the stonework of Sanctuary and the Sanctum.

  Call, the, (Hexen): A brief statement of offering and intent, stated before the Let.

  Calling, the, (General): The aptitude test undertaken by all Freeborn on their 16th Cycle of Origin, to determine what Focal Power they shall be called into – and whether they shall reside within the Sanctum or the Districts.

  Capacitor, Aetheric, (Aetherics): A convertor used to store Aetheric energy for controlled dispersal.

  Centre Hand, (Cult): An organisation said to orchestrate between the wicked Left Hand and the righteous Right Hand.

  Centurion, (Profession): The least senior of the Praetorian ranks.

  Chapter Scrolls, (General): Scrolls of Law used as reference during a Tribunal.

  Charge, (Measurement): A standard form of Concordat Volume measurement. See Concordat Volume Measurement Conversion Table

  Chasm Valley, (Geography): A very deep valley through the Jagged Mountains towards the Barren Heights.

  Chassid Tree, (Plant): An ornamental tree revered for its bright pink flowers; Native to the subterranean gardens of Xia.

  Chericot, (Commodity): A bright red skinned fruit, with dark purple juicy and plump flesh.

  Cherishe, the, (Profession): An order of women taught to harness and utilise their life-generating powers for the purposes of healing.

  Citadel of the Silent Prince, (General): A well protected fortress located in the foot hills of Mount Sierra Gloria.

  Clamberer, (Animal): A silver skinned, scaleless bi-pedal amphibious fish that inhabits the Aqueducts and Viaducts of Sanctuary's water transport system.

  Cleric, Arboreal, (Profession): An Ecclesiastic Order. Tends to the Trees and plant of Sanctum, maintains the grounds of the arboretum, and undertakes pilgrimages to the Evergreen.

  Cleric, Labour, (Profession): An Ecclesiastic Order. Ensures that all labour is performed diligently, that Sloth is kept suppressed and that all work is undertaken in the name of Sanctuary.

  Cleric, Medici, (Profession): An Ecclesiastic Order. Tends to the tired, wounded and sick within Sanctuary. Ensures the welfare of those who Labour.

  Codex Tyranicus, (Cult): A manifesto penned by unknown authors, revering Tyrannous the Depraved. The Codex details a way of life instructing that Contempt is the greatest mental state. They foster contempt through deeds of great depravity, through both sadistic and masochistic methods.

  Cohort's Forge, (General): The governing body of the Praetorium: comprised of all Prefects and Tribunes.

  Colden, (General): A generic and collective name for the tribes and races that dwell along, or within, the Jagged Ranges.

  Conceptia, (Apocrypha): One of the Five Tears of Concordia. Represents the State of Aether, and representative of the Aetherium. The source of all Aether throughout Existentia.

  Concordia, (Apocrypha): The youngest of the Axiomata, caught amid the eternal struggle between Ordo and Chao.

  Contemplation Rods, (General): Comprised of 9 rods, each rod has a virtue written on the white side and its opposing iniquity on the black side. These are used by drawing a rod, and attempting to embody or inspire acts related to the Virtue revealed. Only when the act has been undertaken successfully, does the user return the rod, black side down into the rest. Once all sides of the rods have been revealed, the process of Contemplation Rods is complete.

  Contrivance Jewel, (General): A mineral that radiates powerful yet destructive energies. A long-lost form of energy that once powered the machines of the Khyramic Order.

  Convertor, Aetheric, (Aetherics): Specially crafted objects and mechanisms created by the Khyramic Order, through which an Aetheric practitioner can manipulate the Aether. Amplifiers, Actuators, Transducers, Inductors and Capacitors are specific convertors, with each having a specific function in the manipulation of the Aether.

  Corrupt, the, (Cult): One of the factions within the Cabal of Corruption.

  Corruptor, (Cult): A member of the Cabal of Corruption. A sadist who draws pleasure from manipulating the innocent into undertaking atrocious tasks. Tasked with recruiting new members.

  Cove of Lights, (Geography): A section of the Aecorian coastline illuminated during Tenebrae, caused by the heat and kinetically activated phosphorescent sands that lay below the sea floor.

  Crematorium, (General): The Crematorium was where delegates of the Ecclesiasticum rendered the deceased of each District to ashes, to be dispersed by the Arboreal Clerics through the grounds of the Arboretum.

  Crop-Cursers, (Hexen): One of the more sinister Hexen’Darq. Known to cause destruction to agriculture, for profit and pleasure in the suffering of others.

  Crucius, (Geography): The City on the Crossroads. An interesting cultural hybrid, showing influence from its surrounding four lands. Well known as the historical hub of Aetheric Lift Trains before falling into disuse after the 2nd Schism.

  Crucius Defence Force, (General): A forward defence force of Concordat troops stationed at Crucius.

  Crypt, (General): A vaulted location underneath the Dome of the Decree. Its entrance is protected by the Unbreakable Guard.

  Cult of Khyram, (Cult): A cult that worshipped Khyram, the Arkon of Ingenuity, through the medium of Engineering. Eventually became the Khyramic Order of Engineers – and ultimately the Machinists and the Toolsmiths.

  Curator, (Profession): A figurehead responsible for maintaining the order of the Tribunal Conclave, making recommendation and passing motions for ratification.

  Curtain, (General): The inner ring defensive ring, known as the Curtain, separated the Operarium Districts from the grounds of Sanctum.

  Custodian, (Profession): A Centurion responsible for morale and discipline in the ranks of the Militia.

  Cycle, (Measurement): A standard form of Concordat Time measurement. Marks a full revolution of Singularis by the Lux system. See Concordat Time Measurement Conversion Table.

  Cycle of Darkness, (General): An entire cycle of darkness, caused by the tremendous fires that ravaged the lands after the Cycles of Bloodshed- their smoke blocking the light of Lux.

  Cycles of Bloodshed, (General): A great war that waged over three cycles, between the Concordat in a coalition with several smaller powers and the Shaydean Alliance.

  Czarnog, (Shadefiend): A six-legged, soft shelled insect that gives birth to live young. Has saw like talons on its front lets that strike with a rapid snapping motion.

  Dagger Lover, (General): Common insult directed at those sympathise with the plights of the Daggers of Merusul.

  Daggers of Merusul, (Politics): The Agents of Attamerus that dwell within Sanctuary, with sole intent of restoring the right to worship in accordance with the Strict Observance of Merusul.

  Dance of Blades, (General): A graceful and efficient martial art taught by the Deathtress and her Reckoners.

  Dark-Steps, (General): See Tenebrae.

  Darkpoint Toadstool, (Plant): A unique fungus that appears to draw its luminescence from Nox.

  Deathtress, the, (General): A woman of great mystery and power. Instructs select women in a graceful and deadly martial art - the Dance of Blades. Her disciples are known as Reckoners, and will go to great lengths to protect the matriarchal lineage of the Red Empress.

  Decree of Sirius, (Ap
ocrypha): A giant and unmovable Aurum tome that lies within the Profanum Profanorum.

  Deep-Maggot, (Shadefiend): A flesh worm, several spans in length, that burrows through the Tundra or soft soils in pursuit of blood. Once fed, will sleep for a Pass.

  Depositors, (Hexen): A Hexen with the power to create particulate matter from the air.

  Depraved, the, (Cult): A member of the Cabal of Corruption. An individual who has entered a full state of disgrace, and actively seeks to disgust others.

  Devin, (Apocrypha): Devin is regarded as the first born of the first cavern - the first male to ascend from the Frystian crevasse of the Cave of Birthing.

  Dew Leaf, (Plant): The Dew Leaf tree gets its name from the large surfaced leaves, which release drops of water from the underside.

  Disciplinarium, (General): A location within the Praetorium, where all matters of Praetorian combat training and discipline take place.

  Dispersions, (Hexen): A series of words spoken with intent to drive away the negative influences of the Hexen'Darq.

  District, (General): A semi-autonomous wedge-shaped region of Sanctuary. 24 Districts are separated by a wall that runs along its length, intersecting the Shield and the Curtain.

  District Court, (General): The District Court is where grievances between parties are heard by the Governor’s representatives.

  Djem, (Commodity): The tuber of the Djemmer Vine. Inedible unless peeled and can be mashed or eaten whole after cooked at high temperatures.

  Djemmer Vine, (Plant): A ground cover vine, with bulbous and tuberous edible roots. A rapidly growing crop, that is a staple (Commodity) in the diet of Sanctuary.

  Dockers Porter, (Commodity): A famed dark Porter prepared by the dockers of Sanctuary Harbour.

  Dome of the Decree, (General): A Dome of tremendous size forming the centre of Sanctum, surrounded by the four Cardinal Domes.

  Dragoon, (Profession): An Attaran mounted lancer. Light, wiry and strong - the three principal qualities required to ride their Vespax mounts.

  Drakonis, (General): A mountain range in the realm of Xia.
