Complexity Page 15

"How did it go?" Iris asked me evenly.

"There were a lot of people here tonight inquiring about it. I directed them all to you." I looked back at her, my suspicions now at an all-time high. She had done something; I could see the dollar signs shining in her eyes.

"Well, I had no choice but to turn them all away tonight."

"What? Why would you do that?" I was flabbergasted.

"Someone obviously bought your artwork before the show." I couldn't speak. "However, some other buyers were adamant about having your work. I had to call your main buyer, who insisted on bidding well over their price."

"Who the hell is doing this?" I was amazed; I couldn't believe this.

"He's outside looking at your art right now. " She gestured toward the door, knowing the buyer was there. I stared at her incredulous, before finally heading out, my heels clacking against the floor.

When I walked out, there wasn't anyone else on the floor, except for one person. He was dressed in an immaculate navy blue three-piece suit, his short cropped blonde hair slicked back. As I neared the feature piece, he turned to look at me, his expression was soft, a rare occasion. Nikolas let a small smile spread across him.

"You look beautiful, Cecelia." He removed his hands from his pockets to rest easily, watching me walk towards him. My pace slowed, apprehension plain on my face.

"Did you buy all my art?"

"It wasn't easy, actually. Quite a few other businesses fought me on it. The most fought-over was this." He stretched his hand out to the golden bed I had looked at so fondly. "Naturally, I couldn't let it go." I stared at him, agape.

"I … I don't know what to say. Thank you." I stood uncomfortably, wondering why he was here. He looked me in the eyes, taking a step closer to me.

"We stood in front of this bed earlier, and I told you that I'd never leave you. I don't think I'm in love yet, but if it's ever going to happen, I know it's only going to happen if I'm with you." My breath caught, and my heart began to race. I could feel my body readying for him on instinct being this close to him. He took another step closer to me, taking me in his arms then. He didn't break eye contact once. Then he brought me into him, kissing me determinedly. I melted into him in response, feeling his strong arms holding me in place. I missed him so much; it felt like everything was falling into place being here with him.

Finally having him touch me again made all my insecurities wash away, just me enjoying being with him. He released me then, to look at me and drink all of me in. My cheeks were still rosy from the heat of his caress, making me blush even though we were alone. I looked up into his eyes, knowing now that this was right. I wanted to be with him. Irrevocably, I needed him, and now I could see he needed me. Everything was finally the way it should be, and I couldn't be happier.
