“I told you I got this,” he said with a smile as he poured the mixture over in a skillet and started scrambling the eggs. It felt good to be at Rayne’s house. It was stress free and more importantly his little man was also there with them. If nothing else he knew that he was safe.

“Heyyy,” Rayne spoke to Mason as he made his way from down the hall and into the kitchen.

“Hey,” he softly spoke back. He was certainly a handsome young fella and Rayne was smitten to have him over.

“What’s up, son? How’d you sleep?” Chase asked as Mason walked over to him.

“I like that bed. It’s better than the other one,” Mason said with bright eyes as he smiled at Chase.

Chase leaned down and kissed him softly on the forehead. “Well, you won’t have to sleep in that hotel bed again.” He said with a shake of the head. I don’t understand your mama when she has a big house that y’all can live in.

“I missed you, Daddy.” Mason said. The bright eyed look on his face only meant that he was happy to be around his father.

“I missed you too, my man. I’m glad you’re back.” He said rubbing him lightly on top of his head. “I’m cooking us breakfast so you can watch cartoon in the living room until I’m done.”

“Okay,” Mason said as he walked off pulling something out of his pajama pockets.

“What you got there?” Rayne questioned as she saw him playing with it.

“My cell phone,” Mason said. Rayne frowned as she and Chase glanced at each other.

“What you doing with a cell phone?” Chase questioned. “You’re only three years old. You don’t need a cell phone.”

“Mommy gave it to me.” Mason responded in a tiny voice.

“I figured that much,” Chase said with a shake of the head. “Okay, well go on and watch TV.” The minute Mason was out of sight, Chase started. “He has a cell phone and she wouldn’t let him call me? All I wanted was to make sure that he was alright. I can’t deal with her.”

Rayne shook her head. “Brooke wasn’t thinking straight, babe. Some things you can’t blame her for. You’d just broken up with her. I know that couldn’t have been easy. I’ve gone through a couple of those myself. It was only one that really broke me down, but I vowed to myself, never again.”

“Well, you don’t have to worry about me ever breaking your heart. I love you,” he said walking over to her as he stood between her legs.

“I love you, too.” She said leaning over to kiss him. “Last night was great.” She added.

“It was better than great. It was out of this world amazing.” He said with a handsome smile on his face.

“It damn show was.” She agreed, and then glanced down on the countertop beside her as Chase’s phone began to ring. “It’s Brooke,” she said with a shake of the head.

“I really hate to answer her call.”

Rayne smiled at him sweetly. “Just answer it, babe.”

  “Yeah,” Chase answered the call.

“Hey,” Brooke softly spoke. “I called to apologize for taking Mason away from you these past two weeks. I don’t know what I was thinking, but I’m truly sorry.”

“Are you, Brooke?” Chase questioned almost with an attitude. “I believe that this is something that you’ve wanted to do for quite some time now. That’s the only thing you threaten me with.”

Brooke sat silently for a few seconds, and then she cleared her throat before continuing. “That’s why I called to apologize. It’s a very childish move to play and I should’ve known better. One thing I’ve learned is that a baby won’t keep a man if he’s not willing to be kept.”

“A man stays where he’s wanted and not hounded or questioned about any and everything he does.” Chase added.

“You’re right,” Brooke agreed. “You’re right.”

“What’s this call really about?” Chase pondered as he glanced over at Rayne. She was sitting there shaking her head at him.

“Don’t be so mean to her, babe.” She whispered in the background.

“Brooke,” Chase called out since she was now quiet.

“We need to sit down and talk.” Brooke told him. “I have some news that I need to tell you.”

Chase frowned. “What type of news?”

“I’d rather us discuss it in person.” Brooke said.

“I don’t know if I want to even sit down with you at this point. You just took my boy away from me. You left me sitting here sick out of my mind not knowing if he was dead or alive.”

Brooke cut in. “He was with me. He was just fine.”

“How did I know that?” Chase asked with a raise of his voice.

“Calm down,” Rayne told him in a whisper, yet again.

“Because, I’m telling you. I wouldn’t let anything ever happen to my son. What is wrong with you?” Brooke questioned now feeling a little irritated.

“Brooke, one thing I’ve learned about you is that you’re very unpredictable. I should never know what to expect.”

“That brings me back to us needing to sit down and talk. It’s very important what I need to say.”

Chase was a bit skeptical. “What can’t you tell me over the phone?”

“This news,” Brooke shot his way.

“What is it pertaining to, Brooke?”

“Us and our family,” she said. “I think we should really sit down with clear heads and think things through before making a final decision to let things go.”

“That decision was made two weeks ago, remember? Or, did you forget?”

“I didn’t forget anything, but we have a lot to fight for.” She thought about Mason. “Where is Mason at?”

  “He’s watching cartoon.” Chase said.

“I bet your mom is cooking breakfast,” she said with a smile. Chase and his mom were really close and she loved herself some Mason.”

“Well, uh,” Chase said unsure of if he should tell her the truth, but then decided that he didn’t want to keep any secrets. “We’re actually at Rayne’s house.”

“Rayne’s house?” Brooke said in a deeper, unsatisfied tone. “Did you and Mason stay the night at Rayne’s house?”

Chase took in a deep breath, and then let it out. “Mom brought Mason over here to me last night and yes we stayed the night.”

Brooke sat silently for a minute. She was trying to get her thoughts together before she acted out again and made things worse. Her eyes filled with water at the thought of Chase and Rayne sleeping together. She was really hurt by his actions, but she was going to try her best to not show it.

“So, what you and Rayne have is that serious now?” she sadly pondered. “I’ve been gone for two weeks and you’re already living there?”

“I’m not living here, but we did stay the night here.” Chase truthfully responded.

Brooke sighed. “Your mom knows that Rayne is the new lady in your life?”

“My mom is no dummy.” He said. “If that’s what you wanna know.”

“So, with you and me it’s completely over?” she questioned feeling really down in the dumps now.

Chase glanced over at Rayne as she shot him a sweet smile in hopes of keeping him level headed while talking to Brooke. He then looked away and continued his conversation. “Besides raising Mason, Brooke. Yes, we’re over.” He answered her.

“Well, I guess what I needed to talk to you about can be said in front of her then.” Brooke said.

Chase didn’t have one problem with that, because he wasn’t into keeping any secrets from Rayne no matter what it was. “I guess that’s how it’ll be then. No funny shit, no fighting, no arguing Brooke; I mean it.” Chase told her.

“No worries,” Brooke sadly sad. “I’m done with that life.”

Chase wasn’t sure what to make out of her changed attitude. “So, when would you like to talk?”

“Now, would be perfect.” Brooke said.

Ding Dong, the doorbell rang. Ding Dong.

Rayne looked at Chase with a frown won
dering if he was expecting company. Chase just shrugged his shoulders.

“Are you coming to the door?” Brooke questioned.

“Huh?” Chase chimed in feeling a bit thrown off. “Is that you at the door?”

Rayne frowned, and then whispered. “Is that her at the door?”

“Yes, please come to the door. I won’t come in. I just wanna say what I gotta say and I’ll leave.”

Chase ended the call, and then headed to the front door with Rayne now on his heels.

“Why is she coming to my house? How does she even know where I live?” Rayne questioned also feeling thrown off by Brooke just showing up there.

“Guess we’re about to find out.” Chase responded as he opened the front door.

Brooke stood there with puffy, red eyes like she’d been crying. In actuality her heart had been broken as she stood face to face with Chase and his new woman.

  “Hey Chase,” she spoke.

“Hey Brooke,” Chase spoke back. Rayne and Brooke just looked at each other, but it wasn’t going to be any cordial speaking between the two. “How’d you know where Rayne lived?” he immediately questioned.

“Mason has a cell phone that I tracked here since you said that y’all had stayed the night.”

  “Psycho,” Rayne uttered.

Brooke glanced over at Rayne, but she refused to step to a lower level just to say what she had to say. “You may not see it this way, but if Mason is going to be spending time here then I need to know where here is.” She said.

“Well, now you know so what’s this news that you have to tell me?” Chase questioned as he watched her digging inside of her purse.

She pulled out a pregnancy stick and handed it to him. “Do you remember a few weeks back when you made love to me inside of our dining room?” She questioned. Chase heard her, but he was stuck looking at the test. “Well, we conceived another baby.”

Rayne stood there feeling sick to her stomach. She peeked over Chase’s arm to see that the test definitely read pregnant on the stick. Wow, she thought.

“I know how you used to always talk about being able to raise your kids by one baby mama and how important it was for you to be in their lives.” She said almost wanting to cry. “Well, God is giving us a second chance with this baby.” She said rubbing her flat stomach that hadn’t yet started showing. “I’m not going to pressure you into anything and if being with Rayne is where you want to stay then I’ll bow out gracefully. However, I do want you to be a part of your children’s lives. That’s important to me.”

Chase stood there still stunned. Never in a million years did he think that Brooke would show up to Rayne’s house and hand him a positive pregnancy test stick.

“I know you’re still processing all of this and that’s fine. I’ll leave you be, but kiss my baby for me and tell him that I’ll call him later. I can pick him up in a couple of days or even later if you want me to.” She said. She then glanced over at Rayne. The cut look on her face was satisfaction enough as she turned, and then casually walked away.

Chase looked over at Rayne, still holding the test in his hand. “I’m sorry,” he told her.

Rayne disappointedly shook her head with tears in her eyes as she remembered Chase telling her that he’d slept with Brooke that day. “You damn right you’re sorry.” She responded with an attitude as she turned to walk back into her house. She was hurt at what she’d just witnessed. She didn’t really know where things would go from here. But, if Brooke thought that things would work in her favor then she was sadly mistaken. There was no way that she’d go that far with Chase to just back out now.

Rayne entered her bedroom and closed the door shut behind her. She laid across the bed with thoughts racing through her head. She took in a much needed breath of fresh air, and then let it out as she whispered. “I don’t know what plans you may have in trying to get Chase back, but please believe me it’s not going to work.” She whispered as Chase opened the bedroom door and walked in.

He sat on the side of the bed beside her. “Come here,” he said pulling her to him. A tear fell from her eye as Chase wiped it. He felt bad about the situation, but only wanted Rayne to stick by him. “Can we work this out? I don’t wanna lose you.” He sincerely said.

“Losing me will never happen.” She said causing him to smile. “Now, we have to figure out what Brooke is up to. She’s way to calm about the situation and I know its more drama just waiting to happen.”

“Well, as long as we stick together we’ll be good.” Chase told her.

“No worries babe.” Rayne told him almost with a forced smile. “We’ll be good, one way or another. I don’t care what kind of cards Brooke intends on playing next, but I can tell you that she will not win.” She said and meant every word of it.
