“We have to be careful because there are people out there that want to hurt us. Kill us,” I said.

“Is that what happened you?” Mom asked.

  I nodded.

She held her hand to her mouth.

“There is another group of people out there like us. They are called Qihar and they have similar powers to us. Their main focus is to kill all Xarponians,” Marcus said.

“Well this is a lot to take in,” Mr. Peterson said.

“You seem to be taking all this pretty well Jackson,” Mom said.

“Dad already knew,” I said. “He knew because the government got involved. They captured my friends and me and used us as slaves. Dad’s new girlfriend was working for them. I figured she used him to infiltrate our family.”

“But she used to buy me ice cream,” Dalton said.

Everyone slightly laughed except Mom. Probably an attempt to cover how freaked they were.

“What exactly have you boys been doing in college?” Mom squealed.

“I made the Dean’s list again Mrs. Perry,” Marcus said.

“We make sure our grades come first Mom,” I said.

“There is more,” Marcus said. “I have these journals.” He pulled one out of his satchel that was slung across his chest. “These date back thousands of years. They are my family’s history books. With them, I have a connection to my parents. My dad’s name is Ignazio Ferrari.”

“And through these journals we found out that Ignazio not only had one son. He cheated and the end result was two kids being born around the same time,” I said.

Both moms covered their mouths and Mr. Peterson was sliding out of his chair.

“The other child was named Dylan,” I said.

“This isn’t possible,” Mr. Peterson said.

  Everyone began to cry.

“Dylan is my big brother,” Marcus cried.

“Is Dylan my big brother then?” Elias said.

“And is Marcus my big brother?” Dalton said.

  “Sweet,” they both said.

Mom got up and walked over to us. She pulled Marcus and I together and held us. His mom got up and held us also. Our dads and siblings joined. We were all just there for each other in tears.

Our family’s stayed and cooked dinner for us together. Dad made steaks and Mrs. Peterson made a ton of sides. I was looking forward to the cake Mr. Peterson made. Marcus asked to talk to me away from everybody. We went into my room and locked the door.

“Yeah.” I took a seat on the bed.

“Nothing it’s just, I still can’t believe you’re my brother,” he said.

  “Your big brother.”

“This is crazy, what are the odds my best friend turns out to be my half-brother.”

“This is has to be some kind of fate or something,”

“I don’t want to understand it. I have a living relative right here next to me and, there is something else.”

  He pulled the journals out.

“All the parts that are written in Italian were written by Dad and his parents. I photocopied them and had them translated from this guy Bruno on campus who is fluent in Italian. Dad was a genius, Dylan. Everything he didn’t want somebody to know, like Qihar maybe, he wrote in Italian, I think. So we both know that my mothers name is Katiana. Another passage says her last name is Montez. On the side of this paper the numbers “4375” appear. That number appears on every page that my mother is mentioned. At first I didn’t think anything of it, but it wouldn’t be there this many times for no reason. I did a deep search for Katiana Montez with a birthday of April third nineteen seventy-five and I got a match in Seattle, Washington. Dylan, I think I found my mom.” His face sparkled.

  “No freaking way,” I gasped.
