“Listen, Teddy, I don’t need anyone—”

I pressed my lips to hers, silencing her before she could finish her sentence. Her mouth didn’t open to me at first, but after a moment, she surrendered. She kissed me back, her hands moving along my face and the back of my head, her body against mine.

When I pulled back, the emotion in her eyes was replaced by surprise.

“Listen, Madison. I’m not good with words sometimes, especially when it comes to how I feel,” I confided. “But that doesn’t mean I’m just going to leave you alone to raise our child.”

  “You mean…”

“Yes, I will be there. As best I can, for both of you.”

  “You’re sure?”

“Of course,” I said, pushing a strand of her hair behind her ear, then stroking her face. Her skin was so soft. Everything about her was soft and sweet. How did I never see it before? “Yes, I’m sure. Completely. I was just nervous. This is big news for me.”

“I know you don’t want kids, Teddy. I’m sorry.”

“I never said I didn’t want kids. I said it would probably be best if I didn’t have them because I’m married to my job. But I have wondered what it would be like.” I placed a hand on her belly. Still mostly flat, but not for long. Soon she would be growing with my child, and the idea of that turned me on more than I expected it to. My erection pressed against my work pants, against her. “I want this child. I just, well, I need to figure things out because I don’t want to turn out like my dad.”

A small smile pulled at her lips. We were quiet for a bit, staring into each other’s eyes. Her blue gaze reminded me of the ocean, and I felt like I could drown in it and be perfectly happy. No one had ever made me feel this way.

“So, you said your shift was ending?” she asked, running a hand down my shirt suggestively, playing with the buttons.

“Yes, I’m off work for the night.”

“Do you think we should go somewhere and…talk?” The way she said that last word, I had a feeling she wanted to do more than talk.

And I was right on board with that.

“Yes,” I said, motioning her to my car. “I’m driving.”

  Ooo000ooo

I lived outside of town because I preferred the solitude of mountain living. I was at the station more often than I was at home, but when I came home, I wanted to put work behind me.

We pulled in front of my house, the trees surrounding us, darkness as far as the eye could see. There wasn’t even a moon out, which meant it was pitch black except for my headlights.

I pulled into the garage, which was well lit, the darkness shut out with the close of the door. I walked over and helped Madison out of the car, and she was in my arms as soon as she stood up. We were kissing, our hands exploring each other’s bodies, as we made our way clumsily into the house.

The garage lead into the kitchen, which was where I pulled off Madison’s shirt, dropping it to the tile floor as I continued leading her down the hallway. Her pants were next and left in the hallway leading to the bedroom. She yanked at my shirt, the buttons popping off. It, too, fell to the floor outside the bedroom.

Madison reached for my belt, her hands fumbling with it. I helped her with it and the zipper on my pants. As soon as they were undone, she slipped one of her tiny hands down my boxers, gripping me tightly. A groan escaped my lips as I pulled them down, dropping the last of my clothes to the floor.

Madison was still in her bra, but that was about to change. The black satin bra was a stark contrast to her pale, white skin, but I needed to see all of her.

  To touch all of her.

  To taste all of her.

I reached around her, fumbling for only a second before the bra slipped down to the floor. Her beautiful, full breasts fell into my hands. I had large hands, but she was still a handful. I imagined what her breasts would look like as they grew, as her entire body swelled with my child. My cock throbbed, dripping at the very thought of it.

We moved to my bed, and at first, I hovered above her, kissing every inch of her bare flesh like I couldn’t get enough.

Her skin was soft and supple, tasting sweet and smelling of vanilla. She groaned as I sucked at her neck. Her body wrapped around me, arching upward as if to beg me to enter her.

She whimpered, her lips against my ear. “Please, Teddy. I need you.”

Hearing her sweet voice begging me sent a shudder throughout my body. I feared I might explode the moment I penetrated her tightness, so I had to pull myself together.

I had to remain in control. I didn’t want it to end too soon. I needed to make her feel so fucking good.

I kissed down her body, my tongue languishing over the swell of her breasts, sucking at her nipples. Her body shuddered beneath me as she whimpered. I continued sucking as I moved a hand lower, spreading her thighs and diving into the wetness.

And God, she was so wet. My cock ached, imagining the feeling of sliding inside her. But not yet.

I teased her clit, and she practically panted in response. She was shaking even more now, her nails digging into my skull as she cried out my name.

I buried my fingers inside her opening. Just one at first. Then two. Gradually I stretched her open to fit three, moving them in and out of her tight little hole with ease. My thumb massaged her clit, and it didn’t take long before I heard the magic words.

  “I’m coming! Oh, God, Teddy!”

Her screams filled the room, and I kept fucking her with my hand, sucking her sweet nipples until her screams died. She pulled on me, saying, “I need you inside me. All of you. Please, Teddy, please.”

I moved myself into position, hovering above her, staring into her sky-blue eyes. I buried myself balls deep inside her in one thrust, watching as her face twisted and her eyes nearly rolled back into her head.

“Oh God, you feel so good,” she whimpered.

I leaned down, kissing those sweet lips and whispered, “Trust me, baby, you do too. You make me feel so fucking good.”

I rocked my hips, thrusting deeper and deeper inside her. She wrapped her body around mine, moving to meet my thrusts. Her nails dug into my shoulders, her teeth bit into the flesh of my chest as she came again, her entire body writhing beneath me wildly.

“Yes, come for me, Madison,” I commanded, feeling the pressure building up inside me. It wouldn’t be long; I couldn’t contain my need much longer. But I wanted to keep going, keep making her come until she begged me to stop. Until she couldn’t take it any longer.

Even if I couldn’t hold out that long, I would make her come again,

Madison went limp beneath me, and I thought she might be done. I slipped out of her, and she cried out, “No, not yet, please.”

“I’m not done yet, baby,” I growled.

I rolled over beside her, nudged her over on her side, spooning her from behind. Her ass rubbed against my groin. I grabbed her hips and positioned her just right so I could slide into her tightness once more. She gasped as I filled her.

The position gave me the freedom to touch her, to explore those luscious curves. One hand played with her nipple as I pounded her from behind. The other moved down her hip, stroking her belly before finding her clit.

Madison cried out, “Yes, oh yes,” and I knew I was doing everything right.

I fingered her clit as I moved in and out of her. Madison moved with me, helping our bodies to remain united.

It didn’t take long for her pussy to tighten around me. Her breath caught in her throat as if this one took her by surprise. She didn’t tell me she was coming, but I knew. I could feel the way she spasmed around my cock, milking me.

And that was it. I couldn’t take it any longer. I exploded inside her, rope after rope of my seed filling her. I held onto her tightly, pulling her into me, our bodies wrapped together so tightly, I didn’t know where I ended, and she began.

Then we collapsed, our bodies relaxing as easily as they came together. We laid there for a moment as if we needed
to relearn how to breathe or move. Slowly, I slipped my deflated cock from her, watching as my seed spilled out over her thighs.

I nudged Madison to roll over, and she did. Her head found my chest, and I cradled her against me, stroking her hair and kissing the top of her head.

I wasn’t sure how I would find a balance between work and family, but I knew that I had to. I had no other choice. And it wasn’t just out of obligation - I wanted to.

I wanted to be with her.

I wanted to help raise our child as a family.

And I would have to find a way to make it work.

  Madison

Teddy grimaced. “I wish you could just stay at my place.”

We were back in my hotel room. Leah hadn’t rented it out yet, so I was able to take it, almost as if I’d never left. I would have to figure out some regular housing in Liberty, along with schooling, since Teddy wanted to be part of the baby’s life. But until then, I would stay at the hotel.

I had mixed feelings about coming back to and staying in Liberty - but I knew my life could be easier there. My child’s life would also be better. With a father like Teddy, he or she deserved to know him.

Teddy had to go to work, but I could tell he was considering calling in. He told me he never did that, but for me…well, I knew he would do anything for his child and me.

But he couldn’t quit his job to spend every moment with us, so I insisted on him going to work. Besides, it would be better to act like everything was normal until we could figure out what was going on. If someone was threatening my brother and making him take the fall for a crime he didn’t commit, we would get to the bottom of it.

But we’d be safe about it. Act like everything was normal.

And that included Teddy going back to work.

I stood on my tiptoes and pressed my lips to him. “It’ll be alright. We were careful. Everyone thinks I left town. The hotel is in your name. I think we’re safe.”

“I mean it, Madison. Do not let anyone inside. Wait until I get off work.”

“I promise. I’ll be safe here, don’t worry. I won’t leave, and I’ll keep the door locked.” I kissed him again. “Go to work, Teddy. Let’s get to the bottom of this so our lives can return to normal.”

Or rather, the new normal. Because my life was about to drastically change. I placed a hand on my belly as if I could feel the life inside me. I couldn’t yet, but soon.

“I know it’s not just my life at sake now, Teddy. I’ll be careful, I promise.”

“I’ll have Mike hang around here, keep an eye on things.”

“Be careful,” I warned. “We don’t want them to think we know anything. We have to act normal.”

“I’ll tell him to be inconspicuous, but it would make me feel a whole lot better if someone kept an eye on you.” His voice was so determined, so protective that it sent a chill down my spine. It turned me on too, but I knew we had no time for that.

“Thank you. But please, go before you’re late and raise any suspicion.”

Teddy sighed and ran a hand over his beard but then nodded. “Fine. Call me if you hear anything. I’m right down the street.”

  “I will, Teddy. I promise.”

We kissed again, and it felt like I literally had to push him out the door. His feet seemed to be made of lead, and as soon as he stepped out, he turned to me, “Lock the door. Deadbolt too.”

The doors were heavy wood. They were old but solid. The windows were more the size of what you’d see in a house, no large one opening to the sidewalk in front. Most of them were up fairly high, and they were small. They wouldn’t easily accommodate a grown man crawling through them.

As long as I didn’t open that door, I was safe.

I shut it behind Teddy, locking all the locks. The deadbolt slid into place, and I was locked in for the day. Thankfully, I had a television and my laptop. Plenty of food too. Teddy made sure I had enough to eat. In fact, he’d made sure I had enough snacks to feed a small family of elephants, but he insisted I was eating for two. Yes, two. Not eight. But it meant I would have more than enough to eat and plenty of options.

I had no reason to leave.

I climbed onto my bed and pulled out my laptop.

I hesitated at first. Teddy had asked me to stay out of it, but would a harmless internet search be interfering? I began looking up information on the McBride family - including the murder Robert was charged with, though the charges had been dropped.

Nothing unusual. One of his friends, as he called him, ended up missing. He was found dead in a river, and initially it was thought the man had drowned. But the autopsy proved that he was most likely dead before being thrown into the river. Robert had told the police he saw the man jump from a cliff, saying he was drunk and wanted to dive off it - but that the water below was too shallow.

  His story didn’t line up.

But the cops botched the case. Evidence was lost. Witnesses went missing. And Robert was mishandled by the cops, threatened into making a confession, or so his lawyer said. There was just too much wrong, and some of it honestly seemed fake. How could police be so incompetent?

My phone buzzed, and my mother’s face popped up on the screen. I sighed as I canceled the call. It buzzed again. This time a voicemail. Then again, another call.

“I’m not in the mood to talk right now, Mom,” I muttered.

She was going through a lot, but so was I. Even when my mom was sober, she was a drama queen. I didn’t have the energy for that.

I promised myself I would return her call when I was ready. On my terms. My mother always had a problem with boundaries. If I was moving back to town, she would have to learn that my life didn’t revolve around her - and I would not stop everything to handle her emotions when I could count on her to help me when I needed it.

Maybe that was harsh, but I had to protect myself and my child.

I hit a brick wall in regard to my research, so I found myself scrolling Facebook. Not even a few hours locked in the room, and I was already going stir crazy.

I got up and dug through the bag of snacks. Some were in the fridge, but I wasn’t really hungry. Just bored. I grabbed some cookies and hopped back into bed, mindlessly munching away. I noticed several missed calls from my mother, but the buzzing had stopped. She had given up.

  Good.

I grabbed my laptop and placed it on my lap just as there was a knock at the door. The hair on the back of my neck stood on end, but I stayed on the bed. Quiet. Not answering. Not even moving an inch.

“Maddy, it’s me,” my mother’s voice called through the heavy door.

  I didn’t answer her.

“Maddy, please, I know you’re in there.”

I didn’t know if she did or not, so I stayed quiet.

“Maddy, I need you!” She practically screamed. The sound of her body being thrown against the door caused me to jump. “Maddy, please, baby. All we have is each other.”

I sighed and closed my eyes, trying to block out the sounds.

She was practically howling now. She screamed and cried and begged, and I knew that if I didn’t do something, everyone in town would know where I was staying - if they didn’t already.

“Jesus, Mother,” I mumbled to myself, throwing my laptop on the bed beside me.

  “Maddy,” she cried. “Maddy, please!”

Her screams got louder and louder. The only way to silence her was to let her inside with me. I had promised I wouldn’t open the door, but I would only do it for a second to shut her up, to keep her from leading others here. To keep her from causing more trouble.

I stood on the other side of the closed door and counted to three before rushing through the locks. I’d make it quick. I’d open the door and pull her inside with me.

Besides, no one was likely after me. We were just being cautious.

One second wouldn’t hurt, and it was to shut my mom up.

I pulled open the door. “Come inside—”

  I grabbed he
r arm, but she didn’t budge. Mascara stained her cheeks as she stared back at me. “Maddy, why are you refusing my calls, sweetie?”

“We can talk about this inside, Mom.”

But it was too late. We were one second too long. I saw the men coming toward us.

  “Mom, come on!” I screamed.

Maybe it was the desperation in my voice, but she threw herself into the room. I slammed the door behind her, but a foot was blocking it. I pressed against the door with my whole weight, but the person on the other side was stronger. He forced the door open, and I flew backward against the wall.

“Leave her alone!” my mom screamed. “She ain’t done nothin’ to you!”

My mother threw herself at the men, but she was smaller than me. They tossed her aside like a ragdoll, throwing her to the floor. I thought she might be knocked out; she didn’t move.

I grabbed for whatever I could - finding a high heeled shoe at my disposal. As the man lunged toward me, I shoved the pointy end into his stomach. He let out a growl, but it didn’t stop him. And he wasn’t alone.

He grabbed me by the shoulders. “Now you’re just pissing me off.”

“Leave her. Boss wanted her alive,” a voice said from behind her. “At least for now.”

“Get away from her!” my mom screamed, but she got up from the floor slowly, moving toward the next man.

The man holding me had a knife to my throat. “Don’t even tempt me. I don’t care if the boss wants her alive. I’ll do it.”

My mother stood back, and I begged her with my eyes. I kicked and screamed, hoping someone would hear us. Hoping someone could help.

The sheriff’s office was just down the street. They could get here in time. Someone just needed to call.

“Call Teddy!” I screamed for anyone that heard me.

A black hood was thrown over my head, blinding me. I continued kicking and fighting, but it was useless. They were too big. Too strong.
