"Fine, I'll stay on the porch and not get in your way." He replied like a moping ten year old would.
I looked to Grayson then, boy he was not going to like what I was going to say, but like I give a shit.
"Grayson, the same goes for you" I told him sternly.
"The hell I will, I can fight!" he growled back.
"Yeah, well I don't care. You will stay on the porch or in the house with Jace. There has been a vision that uses him and you to bait me into going with Aaron. I don't need that happening. If I can protect the both…" but my speech was cut short by me grabbing my head and falling to my knees.
Grayson was by me in a flash, "What's wrong?" he asked quietly.
"Alarm in my head, they're here and by the alarm, he brought quite a few friends with him." I had to squeeze my eyes shut; the sound was so loud and long. It took me a moment to silence it and then to also clear my head.
I shook my head as I stood back up, my feet were unsteady and Gray helped stabilize me. The look he gave me shook me again, but I held the walls closed around my heart. I straightened myself and walked past him to the front door.
Outside was a sight to behold. Aaron stood front and center of his small army. Affinia was behind him to his right and Jackman, the dirty rat bastard demon was on his left. Behind them were at least 50 dark creatures.
Aaron had vampires, trolls, goblins, witches, and even some faeries along with his demons. The demons were all low to mid-level, so I wasn't too concerned. I just hoped my team would follow my command.
Jace and Grayson stood on either side of me then the Chief stood on the right beside Grayson, with his pack falling in behind him.
"So your lover finally gave you away. I have to say I'm a bit surprised that you didn't flee with him again." Aaron announced so cockily and boldly.
I just stared at him, I knew we had to make this real looking, but that was a low blow, even for him.
"If you recall, I fled alone the last time you got close. In fact I've been alone for the last three years. And besides I don't have a lover, so far no one has been brave enough to try me." I said back just as cocky.
I thought about what I had said and I knew that would hit Gray, but so be it. He had to believe that I was over him and that I was alone and strong.
"Well I guess it's a good thing then, because I would have to kill the pathetic one if he had. You are betrothed to me, you have belonged to me for twenty years and I believe that I should finally claim what is mine." He gave me a half-cocked grin that I so badly wanted to knock right off his gorgeous face. The demon bastard was pushing this a little too much.
"Come and try then." I leapt off the porch and he leapt toward me at the same time. We landed right in front of one another and only about a foot apart; our bodies were glowing with magic.
"Katilyn don't push your fiancé, I really don't want to hurt my bride to be." He teased me with his words.
I raised my hands in front of me ready to cast a spell that would knock him on his ass, but something; or rather someone grabbed me from behind. Within a blink of an eye my arms were wrapped tightly behind my back and I was in no position to use magic now.
"No playing Aaron, we are here for her and I have her, so let’s leave." Affinia rasped out in her sultry, vampire voice.
He looked somewhat shocked at what she had done, but he went with it, and I had no choice but to do the same.
"Oh, you have me do you?" I said, I was going to be sly and throw her over, but she twisted my left arm up high and ripped it out of its socket. I'll admit that effing hurt. At my scream of pain she decided that it wasn't enough so she proceeded to squeeze my right hand with hers and she broke every bone in my hand.
Again I screamed, but she was gone from me and I fell to the ground. I looked behind to see bodies fighting behind me, they were moving so fast that I knew it to only be vampires fighting. They stopped fighting and started circling one another and to no surprise it was Grayson who was fighting with her. I really wanted to kill him right now; I would stake him myself if it would make this easier right now, that's how bad he pissed me off.
I stretched my right hand, testing the bones that had already healed. I was fine, a little tender but otherwise it was healed.
"Aaron, call your bitch off, now! This fight is between the two of us, they do not have to be involved." I told him in a low, threatening voice.
He smiled in his sexy way, "But if I don't she can get rid of my competition."
"There is no competition Aaron." I growled out at him as I shoved my shoulder back into place and then turned to take on Affinia myself.
That was my first mistake, Aaron took advantage of my turned back and did some magic on me. I felt like I had just been speared in the stomach. I screamed in pain as I fell to my hands and knees. This was worse than almost dying from that demon poison.
My scream was all it took to distract Grayson. He looked to see what was happening to me and that's when Affinia took her shot. She effectively pinned him to the ground, his face in the dirt and a stake poised right over his heart on his back. He moved his head to look at me in despair; he knew he had just messed up big time.
I screamed again when it felt like Aaron twisted a spear in my gut. I looked at my stomach to see a black magic spear protruding through my shirt. Luckily it was only magic, but that didn't make it any less painful. That bastard had speared me with magic; oh I was going to make him pay for this when I got him alone. Hells bells, what did I get myself into?
"Ok last chance my sweet. Come with me and I will leave everyone here unharmed, refuse and I will kill them all, starting with your Grayson over there. I know for a fact that Affinia has held a grudge the last few years because of your involvement with him. What will it be my dear?" he asked in a tone that said I was running out of time for this plan to go through.
"You swear you will leave everyone alive and unharmed?" I asked and he nodded yes to me.
"Can you also swear that you will leave them all alone, from now on?" I asked throwing in this last bit, felt nice since he decided to spear me in the gut.
I looked from him to Jace, he was in a vision, I could tell from the look on his face. Then I looked to Gray, he was pissed at me at what I was thinking to do.
"Don't you dare do it Kat! Don't you do it." He whispered to me, but it sounded like he was sitting right beside me. "Please Kat; it will not make anything right." He looked lost, like he had been when we first met.
"Gray, I told you I would repay the favor one day, well today is that day. You’re my best friend Gray; you brought me out of the darkness when I was getting really deep in it. For that I have been and will be forever grateful for what you did for me. Aaron you have a deal, now release him!" I looked to him then.
His smile said victory, but in his eyes told me how sorry he really was about what had just happened.
He took me by the hand and pulled me up, the magic spear disappearing the moment he touched me. I took a deep breath relishing the relief that I felt.
"Affinia, take the others back to base and wait for me. I will be there soon, with my fiancé." He looked at her and she grudgingly obliged him.
Grayson made to come after me, but Aaron stopped him with demon powers. Grayson did not like that and I could tell that he was going to find a way to make him pay for that.
"Marx, she has saved your life. I suggest that you go and live it in a way that will make her proud." That was all that Aaron said to him.
As soon as all the "bad" guys were gone Aaron locked me in a steamy, hot kiss. This made us disappear into nothingness.
Chapter 16--Chaos and Destruction
For a moment I was lost in his kiss and in space. It was hot and desperate and it made me crave him. I didn't like that feeling, but I'll be damned if I couldn't ignore it.
When I needed air, I discovered my hands were fisted in his hair at the back of his neck and my body was pressed against his. There was barely a millimeter between us, and that ma
de me feel uncomfortable once I gained my mind set again.
As I made to say something with my mouth he stopped me by putting his finger over my lips and then motioned around the room, my room. I couldn't talk out loud here, at least not until I cast a hearing spell on the room.
I waved my hands in the air and silently cast the spell that would make it sound proof in this room. I felt the air grow heavy and I knew that the spell had worked.
"What the hell was that? Why did you have to...to...to...” I couldn't finish my question.
He raised an eyebrow at me, "Why did I have to what, kiss you like you've never been kissed before? Very simple really, I had three reasons for that sexy kiss. One you don't embrace your demon magic so you could not transport on your own. Two, I really enjoyed seeing the rage on dear Grayson’s face when I did and three I needed you to see that somewhere in that cold heart of yours, you might actually have some feelings for me." He said then sat on my bed.
"Your mean, you know that. Ok, why are we still here, I mean I did need to come and retrieve some stuff, but why would you bring me here without knowing that?" I was happy, but I was curious why he would actually feel a need to come here.
"Simple really, we need to see the aftermath of what is going on so that we can prepare for what is to come. Plus your prophet was having a vision when I was capturing you, otherwise he would have jumped down there and saved you also. Shall we go have a look and see what is going on?" he stood up quickly and grasped my hand.
One look out the window and my heart fell. There were so many demons out there now; a lot of mid-level demons and a good hundred low level demons, there wasn't a bare spot left.
"Ok, so how do we go see what's going on down there?" I asked looking around trying to see if there was a way I could cloak us.
"You really don't use any of your demonic powers do you?" he laughed when he said it so I guess he found it amusing.
"Nope, only a few times have I ever used some of it. But that was just for a burst of energy when I was in the heat of a battle and running low on my own magic." I shrugged like it was no big deal, but I knew the truth and he didn't have to know the truth about how I felt about me and demonic powers.
"Well we have to use demon powers to make you invisible."
"I can't, I don't even have a clue how to tap into even the slightest demon power." I sighed. "Look you just go down there and then let me know what is going on."
"Sorry can't do that, you are going with me. Don't freak out, don't move, and make your breathing match mine as best as possible." He said calmly and quietly.
I did as he said, I become as still as a statue other than breathing once a minute. We were one and it felt really weird and comfortable at the same time.
"You're going to feel the power consume you, but stay like you are. I'm serious, don't freak out because it is going to feel really weird when we go invisible." He was all serious sounding so I knew that this was nothing I should take lightly.
Slowly I felt the power surging through me and I could tell the difference between my witch magic and the dark powers. The witch magic made me feel light and airy, but this was power and I could feel it tugging at something inside of me, I didn't like it, but I stayed calm.
Within a minute my whole body was invisible and we were walking toward the door heading down the stairs. It was chaotic to say the least. The wolves were divided, actually most were standing by the front door with Phelan, while a handful stood behind the Chief who sat on the couch. Jace was sitting beside him also looking very worried. Grayson was on the stairs as we came down so he posed as an obstacle that we had to get around.
We just barely made it past him, but I was certain that he felt our presence in the air. He looked right at me once, it was like he felt me there, but wasn't quite sure why or where I was exactly.
"She abandoned us father and you expect us to stay and wait on the king of hell to just show up and kill us? I will not stand for it and neither will the others." Phelan yelled at the Chief.
"We will stay; the prophet saw her returning to us to help us fight Damien. Damien let her live along with all of us so we don't have to worry about dying just yet. If we flee now, he will only seek us out and destroy us all. We must stand and fight, stand together as one supporting her. She will return she has not abandoned us. You must keep the faith son." The Chief spoke in a normal tone, but the authority that it held kept everyone looking at him.
I felt bad because this was my fault. I had promised Phelan that I would not abandon them and now that's exactly what he believed. Why hadn't I included them in my plan? I should have, if I had they would still be united instead of fighting against one another.
The wolves on both sides began arguing with each other and the yelling was only growing louder. These men were brothers and now they sounded like enemies. Grayson just sat and listened, he was building a plan, deciding what must be done. He was an expert at this; he could create a plan that would fit any situation. It was Jace who stopped the yelling though and that in turn brought Gray out of his head.
"Enough!" he yelled, he was angry and it shocked me. "I am the one who should want to turn tail and run. I am the one who is new to this world and should be terrified of it. But no, it’s you idiots who have grown up in this world and know what all the stakes are living and fighting in it. You see I had a vision when she was stupidly agreeing to leave and I know what is to come. She will be coming back to us; all of my visions have come true so far in one way or another so I don't see why this would be any different." He huffed out, he was breathing heavily, taking short breaths, and I figured he might pass out soon if he didn't calm down.
"Except for her choosing to leave, other than that your visions have been somewhat correct." Phelan smarted off. I really want to smack him right now, wouldn't that scare the hell out of him, an invisible hand that slaps the back of his head; that is so tempting.
"No you're wrong; I did see that vision also. True there were some differences but that's true of all my visions. I did have a vision of her leaving; she had agreed to leave with him as long as he left us safe and unharmed. That part happened just as I saw it, there were only a few minor details that were different, but other than that it was the same vision that I had once before. We must stay and fight, if we don't I do know that we will all be hunted down and killed and then everything will go to hell, quite literally." He sighed like a huge burden was just placed on his shoulders, the burden of discovering the future and the right course to get there. I could tell that he had questions rambling around in that head but he wasn't really sure who he should ask.
Grayson spoke then, although he was very quiet, he spoke like he was talking to a wounded animal and did not want to frighten it with his loud voice. Whatever aura he had going on it grabbed everyone's attention because they all shut up and looked at him, almost as if he had commanded them with his voice. That was pretty damned freaky if I do say so myself.
"Matthews is right. We have to wait on Kat, Katilyn to return. If he saw it, it will happen and she will desperately need us and our support. She doesn't have her full powers yet so she will need to draw energy from the life around her, our lives matter of fact. We will be the ones who will provide her with the strength to stand up against Damien, even if it is not the end of the war, but only the beginning. If you are too scared to stay, then leave, when she does come back she will not be able to draw the right kind of energy from you. She cannot draw power from weaklings. If she has any chance at all of surviving this or even holding him off" he paused and glanced in my direction for the briefest of moments. It was so quick that I doubt anyone else really noticed it, but I did and so did Aaron, as I felt his grip tighten around my waist.
"She will have to tap into her dark powers and draw energy from us. It’s different taking energy from a human than it is for a witch taking energy from the earth, it requires strong subjects and a determined mind. That's why only the strong and the brave need to stay." He finish
ed looking around at everyone.
Phelan glared at Grayson, he obviously didn't like what he had to say. He was definitely harboring some ill feelings toward him now. Great just one more thing for him to be all pissed off about, the opinion of a werewolf is not one that Gray will care too much about.
"Mr. Matthews, are you certain of your vision that she will return before Damien shows up here?" Phelan glared at Gray a few moments longer before softening his face, only minutely, and turning his attention to Jace.
"Yes, as certain as I can be, there is so much that can change, so honestly I will have to wait and see if I have any more visions and how they differ from one another." Jace answered in a tone that said he was tired of all this and he was ready to be done so he could get some sleep, if that were possible.
"Fine, we will stay. We were not leaving because we were scared, we just don't really have a reason to stay and be slaughtered right now. If it looks like she is not going to show, we are leaving, we will not be killed over something that is not our battle." He ground out and then left the room, leaving no one the chance to say anything else to him. His followers simply did what they do best; they followed him out the door to the front porch.
"Alright Matthews, I got them to stay, when do you expect her return, what should we expect from her, and when is Damien actually going to be here?" Grayson didn't sound like himself, he sounded worn out, doubtful, and worried.
"She shows up not long before Damien does, actually about 15 minutes or so really. All I could see was that she showed up by the side of the house, alone, apparently she escaped from Aaron. She did some magic, she had a white fire that made the smoky forms disappear or maybe it blew them up, not really sure what it was. I just know that after she did whatever it was there was ashes falling down all around us, kind of looked like snow."
"You can’t blow up a demon, especially not one that is in between planes, it’s not possible." Grayson cut in. Well way to deflate my ego there, jack ass. He could give me some credit; he doesn't have a clue what any of my new powers will be capable of doing.
