Debbie shook her head and smiled at him. ‘You do make it so bloody hard to be angry with you, Frank.’

He matched her smile. ‘It’s one of my many virtues.’

‘I came here to end things between us,’ she reminded him. ‘Now you’ve got me all turned around. I don’t know what I’m doing anymore.’

‘I’m a battler, Debs. I was never going to let you walk away without a fight.’

She stood. Smile still in place. ‘Will you give me time, Frank?’ she asked him.

‘Of course. Take as much as you need.’

  ‘Will two minutes do?’

Frank pulled his head back, frowning as he rose from his chair. ‘I don’t understand.’

‘I have an overnight bag in the car,’ Debbie said. Her smile widened. ‘I came here to end things, Frank. But I also came here hoping you would persuade me not to.’
