On November 27, 2004, a small aircraft designated “Blackwater 61” crashed into a mountain in Afghanistan, killing three U.S. Army personnel and the three Blackwater crew members. Investigators cited the cause as pilot error and inexperience. The widows of the military men sued Blackwater for wrongful death and, in 2010, reached an undisclosed, out-of-court settlement.
4
In October 2010, the Justice Department announced that after a four-year investigation it lacked sufficient evidence to file homicide charges against the Blackwater employee.

More than 120 companies have been charged by the Justice Department for contract fraud and related crimes in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait, officials said.”
