“What happened?!” Nessa gasped.
“She took me to The Shack and bought me lunch. She apologized for the way she’d acted and wanted me to know how much of an impact my reaction had had on her. She saw how upset I was the day we went to lunch and felt guilty ever since. She told me that she learned a lesson in the consequences of choosing money over kindness. She even said that she was going to meet Abby right after me and offer the house to her if she still wanted it.”
Nessa winced, not sure how she felt about living in a house that someone had died in.
“That’s nice,” Faye said, getting up and pointing to the door as she left.
Nessa looked up, seeing Bizzie standing in the open doorway. She wondered who let her in.
“Can we talk?” Bizzie asked.
Chloe gave her a look and walked off, leaving Bizzie and Nessa alone.
“I just wanted to apologize. I know it’s me who has to say they are sorry and I really hate it, but I’m going to do it, anyway. So, I’m sorry for what I did.”
“Thanks, Bizzie,” Nessa said.
“We don’t have to be friends or anything, in fact, I prefer that we don’t, but I still want to tell you that it was Samson who wrote that last note to you. I asked him because I wanted you to know who it was. I didn’t want you left hanging or believing that it was me.”
“Thanks for letting me know,” Nessa said. She appreciated the apology, but Bizzie was right, they weren’t quite ready for a friendship.
“One more thing. He also told me that he’s sorry for lying to you. He was only trying to help you this entire time, but when you showed up at the apartment building, you freaked him out. He suspected Cody was the killer, then saw you lurking around and didn’t know what else to do. I think he’s a pretty good guy.”
“I’m glad. Thanks for filling me in.”
“Do you have a problem with me or something?” Bizzie asked, ready to fight.
Nessa looked at her phone. “No problem, it’s just that I have a cookie order due today and I was hoping they’d be delivered soon.” She grinned.
“Cute, Nessa. Really cute.” Bizzie scowled and stomped off.
Nessa laughed and waved over her grandfather.
“Do I want to know?” he asked, watching as Bizzie breezed by.
“Probably not.”
“I wanted to tell you that I’ve implemented a new work policy. I know you’re the owner now and all, but I think it’s important that we no longer work shifts by ourselves. From this point on, we work in pairs.”
“I like that idea,” Nessa said.
“I thought you might.” Lex winked and brought in his granddaughter for a hug. “I’m so glad you’re safe.”
“Me, too. Things got crazy there for a few minutes, but Ranger saved the day.”
“He couldn’t have done it without you. Give yourself some credit.”
Nessa smiled. She had a whole team of people standing behind her and she wouldn’t trade any of them for the world. Not even Bizzie.
