First Kiss

“Yes, I’ll marry you. And what could be more romantic than a hospital.”
Jackson laughed and slid the diamond ring on my finger. “I’m going to make you remember that when you complain about your botched proposal.”
“I’ll never complain as long as I have you.”
Jackson leaned over and placed a chaste kiss on my lips. “Let me go tell the nurse you’re better so we can break you out of here.”
“Jackson.” I stopped him before he could get up from the chair.
“What is it baby?” He brushed my hair back and I felt the sore spot from where Trina had yanked on it.
“Is it okay to feel happy right now?”
Jackson’s face filled with pain as he sat on the bed and pulled me to his hard chest. “Yes, it’s okay to feel happiness. You just escaped death. I have nightmares imagining Trina finishing what she started before I could get there to save you. Lucy, I was almost too late.”
“But you weren’t.”
“But I could have been. And that is why you can be happy. Because life is too damn short to dwell on things. I will let go my fear of not getting to you in time if you let go of yours.”
I smiled at him and nodded my agreement.
“All right. Are you good?”
“Yeah, I’m good.”
“I’m going to go find the nurse. Don’t go anywhere.”
Epilogue
“How do you feel Mrs. Holler?” Jackson came up behind me trying to get close to me with my wedding dress hindering him.
“Perfect.” I fingered the ring on his left hand and leaned into him. “I’m glad Karen could make it. She looks good.”
Nobody questioned me when I sent an invite to Richard’s ex-wife. She had a slow recovery but showed up looking healthy and happy. Karen had divorced Richard kicking him out of the house and starting her own business, which I helped create the website for.
Karen had banished the shadows across her face and was living a happier life every day. The trial put a lot of strain on both of us and I don’t know if either of us would have made it through if we didn’t have each other to lean on.
Trina was found guilty on multiple accounts but took a plea deal by pleading insanity. Meredith was pissed but there was nothing we could do about it. Sometimes justice wasn’t given out the way it should be.
Dean was still struggling with Trina’s betrayal. Jackson had to haul him out of the house and get him back in the business. It seemed hiding under covers when your heart was broken was a family trait.
Dean didn’t date anymore but he seemed to be getting better. We pleaded with him to bring a date to the wedding but he refused taking his best man duties seriously. With Trina gone and Dean and Jackson back together the business was booming and I couldn’t have been prouder.
The day I came back from the hospital my baby goats had arrived. As silly as it seemed their crazy antics helped me forget what happened in the house. Jackson had the carpet and couch replaced by the time I came home and I was now able to hang out in the living room without getting sick to my stomach.
The wedding and reception was at the farmhouse the only place I would have wanted to get married. Jackson and I said our vows on the porch we had painted together. The reception was in the backyard and the baby goats were the hit of the party.
Jackson and I snuck off after the cake to have some private time.
“You’ll let me know if you get tired.” His lips branded the side of my neck and I tilted my head to give him better access.
“Is tired a euphemism for ready for naked time?”
“Such a smart wife. Now let’s go mingle with our guests so they’ll leave quicker.”
“Jackson that’s not nice. This is our wedding we don’t want the reception to fly by we want to relish it.” My scolding didn’t have much heat behind it because I felt the same way too.
Seeing Jackson dressed in his tux at the end of the aisle and all I could think about was tearing it off of him. My eyes devoured him as the pastor bound us together.
Cool air hit the back of my legs. “What are you doing?”
“I wanted to see what was under here.”
“Jackson, we have guests waiting for us.”
“Then we better hurry.”
I braced my hands on the dresser as Jackson pulled up the many layers of my dress and pulled my panties to the side. When he entered me I glanced over my shoulder and winked at him. “On second thought the goats will entertain them. Take your time.”
“That’s my Lucser.”
